What do you all think, should there be a war? ... Should they do further inspections? I know this is a political issue, but as it is of significant importance to the whole world, I though you all would have an opinion on this!

I'm against war, at almost any cost, so for now, let the inspectors put some pressure on them, I know it's not a solution for the long time, but it the most stable solution, and stabilty is very much needed now, the situation in North-Korea deserves more attention then the situation in Iraq. On the other hand, the sooner we blow up this planet, the better, because that will be the outcome eventually anyway ... we're going to be our own ending!

further Inspections
as i am againist us going to war what is the point because it is mainly about a terorist attack if we were all that bothered why didnt we have wars at other times when there has been a terrorist attack? another thing why the heck is britian joinin in?us innocent people have f*ck all to do with it i think Tony Blair should get his bum in to gear and think about it first before putting innocent peoples lifes at risk doesn't that bloke think about the consecuinses (can't spell) thats all i have to say but this subject pees me of a slight little bit as you can probally see so i am sorry but you know we all have are chance for opinon!

THERE SHOULD BE NO WAR! Ever! Im completely against war, i have no other opinion!

I'm not really down with politics and stuff, i think it's a total drag and couldn't be bothered following them up but obviously i don't want war.

I also just wanted to ad that i saw a pic of Tony Blair sticking his lips on George Bush on the front page of a newspaper yesterday and found it quite disturbing yet amusing and hilarious at the same time.

So let's think about this.

Sadaam Hussein has weapons of mass descruction. Why does he have them? Is he going to use them at some point, or is he just getting them for kicks? It occurs to me that Hussein isn't going to go to the UN and say, "I'm going to wage war, what do you think?" He's going to do it unexpectedly, and brutally. Will we be justified in going to war then?

People ask "Why now?" I realize that a lot of people outside the US critisize the U.S. for moving when *they* are hit, and not when other countries are hit. I actually think this is legitimate criticism, maybe the U.S. should have done something before. What I don't understand is if we made the mistake of not acting earlier, why are people arguing to STILL do nothing? Personally I feel that Sadaam is a 12 year old problem, there was just no one willing to do much about it earlier.

In the U.S., there has been some discussion about are we just disarming Iraq, or are we taking out the existing regime and will we occupy Iraq for nation-building purposes. I only support the war if we are willing to help rebuild Iraq, yet I know this stance also gets critisized. A lot of people feel that Iraq is a sovereign nation and
we don't have the right to tell them what kind of goverment they should have. I think this is a legitimate sentiment, but it seems to me that the people of Iraq didn't choose to have this form of government, it was imposed upon them. I know there are other governments that are just as awful, so the question is, since we can't take care of all of them, do we take care of none of them?

Colin Powell proved to me last week that the inspections don't work. Sadaam is still hiding and producing weapons, I'm not sure what kind of preasure the inspectors can put on him to make him stop. I feel like a lot of people oppose the war no matter what. If the UN took that stance (no war) they have lost all enforcement power. It would be like a guard dog that has no teeth.

Finally, one scenario I see is war is inevitable; it's just a matter of who will act first. If Iraq uses these weapons, will we be justified in going to war then? That's another question; is the U.S. only justified if they are attacked first?

Oh, really ... if we keep on inspecting Iraq enough, they're not going to have a change to use their weapons of mass destructiobn (if he indeed still has 'em), and neither will they be able to improve their arsenal, it that way war would be avoided and stability would stay.

And aren't you afraid that when you attack Iraq, it will release a new wave of terrorism upon the US, it will also harden the social environment in Europe, where right-politicians are winning terrain. And that this may set off a chain-reaction that might lead to the (probably inevitable) third world war. Christianity vs. Islam

Did you hear Colin Powell's speach? He pretty much said they're still making weapons as we inspect them. True, Iraq came out and said exerything Powell said was a lie, and if you believe Iraq, OK, I understand why you don't think they are a threat. Bur, if they are making them, we will ALWAYS have to be there, watching them, putting preasure on them. And if they know we will never go to war, why would they not continue making their plans?

I think that Iraq or Al Quida (sp) or whoever will attack whenever they get the chance. The arguement that they will retaliate if we do anything drives me nuts. Exactly *what* should we do to make sure these psychos don't attack? What do you think they want from us? If we give it to them, what happens then?

Right-wingers gaining control in Europe, huh? I'm as guilty as every other ignorant American who has little knowledge of the politics in Europe, so I can't comment on this, expect to say, I probably am a "right-winger" by your standards, so there ya go. Question though; what are you afraid of from the Right?

The exact issue is that the inspectors cannot do their job - that Iraq is circumventing the inspections and continuing to build their arsenal. Sure, if all we had to do to prevent Iraq from building WMDs that are not allowed was continue inspections, that would be great.

I don't know what we should do, WW3, is coming anyway.

right wingers will only make it worse, the world will become divided, the social environment is getting tougher and tougher every day, and the right wingers are generally not very friendly to foreigners and muslims and such ... and therefore, they will only make the climate worse!

How does that quote go? something about if you ignore the lessons of history you're condemned to repeat it.

This all reminds me so much of the climate before the Second World War.

People were saying Hitler's not so bad. He's just a loud mouth. He's not really that dangerous. Give him some concessions. He'll go away.

Chamberlain bent over for him and he invaded Poland.

Come to think of it, where did the French stand on that one? I can't remember. I remember hearing how we had to go over there and save their stupid arrogant asses a second time though.

I remember how america would not get involved because it wasnt there war. Until Japan attacked, America wanted no involvment even though britain was being bombed by the luftwaffe constantly, the germans were waltzing across europe. . Records show that Roosevelt had no intention of a war in europe even after the pearl harbour attacks. It wasnt until germany under pressure from the japanese reluctantly declared war on america. There is no doubt that America helped change the outcome of the war, but did they come to our aid? no, it was a revenge attack. And to say america saved France twice shows obvious lack in understanding of the first world war. America launched one major offensive throughout the entire war. France, britain and russia launched tens of hundreds throughout what wa spossibly the most brutal decrepid horrid war, resulting in the highest number of deaths in any war of which the french and russians were a huge majority. It is common knowledge to any person who has read in to the world wars that France was not the country that needed saving it was the world and the millions of British, french russian, italian, american, ANZAC, canadian men and women who died fighting or were murdered deserve more credit than what american films and people like nerd4hire give them. A lot of Americans need to learn more from books and history, than films and TV.
And should iraq be attacked? Difficult one to answer, Sadam is evil, may or may not have weapons of mass destruciton ( i dont pay any attention to colin powell). Will he use the weapons against america? obviously he would, because all that would happen is the UN,USA, britain, france etc etc would wipe him and his country out, so it makes perfect sense to use them. Sadam has to go but an attack on iraq will leave thousands of civillians dead, and will give more ammuntion for osama and others to rally people for the cause.

WOW, very wise words! I agree! to go on a little more on the WW2 parallel.

Bush uses the same tactics as Hitler, Hitler ran a country with deep economical problems and he sought an enemy for the people to blame, the Jewish, and because of the hate against them people seemed to forget their economic problems and that way Hitler gained more and more popularity without fixing the real problems.

Now Bush runs the US, while it is in an economic crisis, he can't find a solution and now, he found his enemy, Muslism ... Al Quida, Saddam, Palestines ... and because of that he is still popular, but he is neglecting things like economy, wealth-fare, environment.

That's a pretty flimsy analogy. Bush isn't blaming the Muslims for the ecenomic problems, he's blaming them for threatening America. True, he does get critisized for ignoring the economy, but putting him on par with Hitler??

Do you really want us to go away and do nothing in the International Community?

What world is safer, one without Bush, or one without Hussein? I think I know what you'll say.....I don't understand it though.

It would be best if we had neither of them, but you don't leave me that choice, off course Bush is better, or should I say less bad ... I know Bush isn't blaming anyone for the economic problems, but by war-talk and stuff, he makes people forget ... don't argue with me on this one, quite a few historical figures did this, and Hitler was one of them ... but as you started the WWII anology I thought I'd finish it for you.

Do you really want us to go away and do nothing in the International Community?

Sure you, can ... but as it says, community ... that means together ... we get to make up our minds together ... we disagree ... ok, no need to run off and do things on your own (party poopers!), we all disagree from time to time, we two do to, just because you like Oz and I like Willow, I won't leave these boards, and neither will you, so why is the US thinking of doing things on their own, without the UN.

Their rises another question: the official reason for America to attack Iraq would be the violation of a UN resolution, but by doing the attack without the UN legislation, the US would be violating a few resolutions too!

And is such we enjoy the chaotic whimsy of fate....

if bush were a great leader...he'd offer to fight on the front lines...this would show courage and be a morale booster...but since he's never been in a war...he's a very eager leader to go to war...bitch

And to say america saved France twice shows obvious lack in understanding of the first world war.

Want a good laugh Catdog. I'm not American. I'm Canadian.

In my defense though I'm not saying the Americans saved France twice. I'm saying we the allies did...and you know what? We did and I think the word you're searching for is Thankyou.

I'm a firm believer in passivism and civil disobedience. War just never ends well. Sure you have a victor and a loser, but you also have lots and lots of dead people. I know many people in the army, some of which are relatives and I definitely think that we can find an alternate solution to war. There is always another option. I also think that maybe we, as Americans, put out nose into other countries business an awful lot. Sometimes, I can understand that we need to to protect our interests, but what about other times? Think about all of the times in the past when we have screwed over other nations? We need to step back and re-evaluate the situation. (IMHO)
