Is Buffy too forgiving?

No I don't think she is THAT forgiving.

Spike-did she actually forgive him or just give into him. She always seemed lost with Spike. Like she wanted more, like she wanted Spike to replace Angel. That to me isn't forgiving. It's breaking in.

Faith- I fail to see how trying to murder someone and then retaining all the hatred for them is forgiving someone. She didn't forgive Faith. When Faith was in prison she go see her? Nope. When Faith came back in Season 7 and helped her did she seem friendly and welcoming. Nope. To me Buffy just used Faith as another Slayer to lessen the load she had to slay, but didn't ever forgive her on a personal level. Buffy didn't care for Faith as a person the minute Faith tryed to get close to Angel.

Yeah, it had nothing to do with Faith sexually violating her, trying to literally torture her to death, punching her mom in the face, etc.
I don't think Buffy is that forgiving. Remember in season two, when she gave Jenny the cold shoulder? But then again, she forgave Faith pretty quickly, even though the stuff she did was much worse, in my opinion. Maybe she has a screwed-up justice system.😀

I think it might be due to what Giles told her in "I only have eyes for you". At that time, she thought the ghost didn't deserve forgiveness for killing his girlfriend. Then Giles told her that "you don't forgive people because they deserve it, but because they need it". And I think that when Angelus turned back to Angel and she had to kill him and he came back, she understood better what Giles meant. Angelus had put her through so much, and yet, she forgave. Everything.

i think this is exactly it...
and i think it's a strong point of buffy's. i admire it in her. i myself struggle with forgiveness--i have a hard time letting things go, moving on, not brooding. it makes life really hard sometimes.
so, i don't think buffy is too forgiving.

I don't think she's too forgiving. Her kind heart and forgiving nature made her a lot of friends. If it wasn't for her forgiving nature she or her friends would have died a long time ago. Look at Spike, if she staked him as soon as he got the chip than he would have never been there to support her in battle against the villains and than there's the emotional support.

Same goes for Willow. If she never forgave Willow she would have been fu*ked in the final battle. No Willow = no potentials becoming Slayers.

Than there's Angel. If she staked him as soon as he came back from Hell everything he done in LA would have never happened. W&H would have had nobody in their way to stop them. Cordy would have been dead, Fred would never have been freed, Gunn & Wesley would have most likely been killed.

If Buffy wasn't overly forgiven her and everyone else would have been dead long ago.

I think that she is a little bit feared about lifing without friends or family. She is the Slayer she really needs that. They are her consolation! So can forgive more easier than others. Maybe this sounds a little bit as a weak of her bt I am sure: It's not as easy as you think to forgive somebody! So it's a special gift or characteristic sign of her!
