Is Buffy your favourite character?

Buffy is my favorite character in both Buffyverse series.

Probably the first female protagonist I could really relate to(in MANY situations on the show). I think Giles explain my feelings the best when in season five he tells Ben she is a hero.

As LoupGarou said, she goes through so many things across the seasons, a lot of them easily translated to real life hardships you have to endure yourself. She was for me one of the most human character on the show, despite her being the Slayer and having supernatural powers.
 
I think Buffy is the character we can the most relate to.
Well, it all depends on where you come from, what's your background, but personnally, Buffy is the one I relate the most to.

You see, since I was a child, I had to take care of people I love.
I had to physically take care of my father because my big sister wouldn't do it. I had to psychologically take care of my mum. And in a way, I also have to take care of my sister sometimes, I feel like I was baby-sitting her (she's 23, I'm 19).
Buffy was 16 when she had to start saving the world.
I was much younger when I had to start looking after people.
And I always felt like it was unfair, I always wanted a normal life, where my parents worry about me, not me worrying so much about them.
More than once, I wondered "Why me?".
It's the kind of thing that make you feel like you always have to be strong, you can never fail, you must always be there for those you love. And most of the times, you have to forget about yourself, you don't have that much time to really think about yourself, and just yourself.
And, in a way, you learn to shut down your own feelings.

Now, I've grown up, I'm not anymore in this whole "Why me? It's unfair! I can't take it anymore!".
I accept things the way they are, and it became like an obssession to always help people as much possible, to always take care of them.

And I'm pretty sure that everybody, no matter what background they have, want people they love to be happy and everybody is ready to help, be there, love, in a powerful, passionate way.

I think we are all Slayers in a way. We all have to struggle with life, we must learn to be selfless sometimes, we must struggle for those we love.

When I was younger, I didn't really understood how selfless Buffy was actually, but when I rewatched it recently, it just stroke me that she was the kind of person I wanted to be, and I'm not talking about vampires and stuff, I'm talking about being that strong and human.
She's definitely a role model for me, and her character helped me to accept my situation of must-always-take-care.

I don't know where or what I would be now if it wasn't for Buffy.

She's not my favorite character, but she is most definitely the one I admire the most.

Buffy is far from my favorite character. She isn't one of my least favorite characters but she has such an 'I'm the slayer there for I am the boss' attitude that keeps me from really caring for her.

I always liked Buffy but when my mom watched the series she was not her favorite, she preferred people like Willow and Spike. I noticed a lot more people dislike Buffy than I thought.
 
Buffy is my second favorite character, but it's hard for her to be my favorite because of her title. I don't know if I can really explain it in words, but like in almost every show the lead character is usually never my favorite. I guess because we sort of take their "shoes", so naturally (maybe not) we don't favorite ourselves, so we look for others. Like from the inside looking out. I think I confused just myself, but yeah. Buffy is my second favorite. 🙂
 
Buffy was never my favourite. She just didn't have as many layers as the others. She was way 2D for me even further along.
 
I don't relate to Buffy whatsoever (gender, background, etc.) However she is one of the best heroes ever created..she looks like someone who can't do much but in actuality is capable of it all..the whole reason I even got drawn to the show as a young'n
 
Buffy's my girl! It's always amazed me how I could never pick my favorite character from the Buffyverse because I have a fav character for every other show I watch, but I think when it comes right down to it, Buffy is my favorite.

I can't say I 'relate' to her at all, though, lol. I don't think I have anything in common with her. But I love her 😀

not sure Buff's my absolute and total favorite, but then I don't think I have an absolute and total favorite. I love most characters for different reasons.

That said I do love Buffy. I wouldn't say I have much in common with her either and at times sure she gets on my nerves - but the girl is amazing. Strong, witty... a hero. She truly carries the show IMO.
 
She's not my favorite character but she's probably my second favorite. And there's not a whole lot of distance between them. I think she is very relatable, mostly in the earlier seasons. In the later seasons.. well, it might be hard to relate but not too hard to sympathize. Like someone said, she is a hero.
 
I love Buffy. The only time I don't like Buffy is when she is putting down Faith because for some reason she's my favorite character.

No Buffy is not my favourite character but for some reason i never seem to like the main character for a favourite. I don't dislike Buffy's character i just never really get all excited over the main character.
 
Buffy wasn't my favorite, but I appreciated her as a character. (Well, maybe except for the last 2 seasons, but I have issues with the last 2 seasons in general). SMG's acting was what really sold it to me - she was able to portray a character that was deliberately written as flawed and, at times, annoying, but on the whole still sympathetic. I think a post on Buffy's character arc would deserve it's own thread, so I'll save that for later.


However, I'd say my favorite character was ... Spike. Again, I have issues with the last 2 seasons and the way the characters (all the characters) were portrayed. And I agree with fans who say Spike's exposure in the last season eclipsed the original four. But Spike was the only vampire, besides Mr. Trick, that I thought had a humanity I could relate to. Most of the other vampires were vamps because they were worthless sorts in human life who were given a new lease by vampirism to kill. Spike's vampirism was in many ways a rebellion against the high class society that raised him ... but through it all he still displayed enormous love for those close to him. The punk with a poet's heart ...


The character I am probably closest to, for better or for worse, is Giles. *sigh*
 
Buffy my favorite? Far from. I actually think I may like every single one of the supporting characters more. ...Well, except maybe Dawn.

(I didn't put a ton of thought into 'all the supporting characters', so I'm probably missing someone I like less than Buffy... but still... She's a bottom of my list kinda gal. No hate for her though. I think I just really love everybody else. 😛)

I'm probably alone on this one but Buffy's one of my least favorite characters. I didn't use to hate her, but she crossed the line when she killed Angel in Becoming then showed up in ATS:Sanctuary and went off at him when she didn't even know the whole story. And the way she treated Spike was just awful.

Well she kind of had to kill Angel in Becoming. You know to prevent the world from being sucked into hell...

Okay, in Sanctuary she was way off, I'll give you that one.

And sure she did treat Spike horribly, but then Buffy would be the first person to admit that. She was hurting and lashing out... so I don't hold it against her (partly because without it there would never have been Spuffy and that'd make me sad)
 
Hmmm this is a tough one. I can relate to Buffy because I'm the oldest of my sisters and I have to sort of be their role model and look out for them. Also, my mother was also a strong single mother just like Joyce.

I can understand why many people don't really love Buffy. She was one of the most complex characters on the show. Sure you don't really realize it until season 4 or so just how effed up her life really is. Everything just ends up exploding on her, where as with everyone else it was a process (Willow falling in love with Tara and becoming this super powerful witch, Xander and Anya falling in love and not working out, and Fatith [need i say more about that?]). So she ends up not really knowing what to do and hurting a lot of people in the process.

At the same time, the supporting characters were a hell of a lot more enjoyable than Buffy was throughtout the entire show, and not at random spurts.

However, I really did love her during the first 2 seasons. She was happy (for the most part).

Boy could i have explained this more vaguely?! =/ I hope you understand what I'm trying to say here. didn't mean for it to come out choppy

I agree, she was much more happy, funny and bubbly in the first seasons!
I don't particularly like Buffy, but I only agree with the bit on Sanctuary. My favourite Buffy is in late S2/S3, I have lots of sympathy for what she went through in Innocence and Becoming. And as for how she treated Spike - he spent much of S6 begging for her, and once she broke up with him, he was begging for her to take him back. I don't particularly like either of them in that storyline, but it's give and take y'know, I can't really blame one of them. Both of them, sure, but not Buffy in particular (if anything I think Spike was more at fault, because Buffy at least had the excuse of being insanely depressed).
 
For me, Buffy is my number one favorite character in the Buffyverse. Part of it is because I can relate to her on many levels. I love her strength, bravery, determination, wittiness, and love for her family and friends. Although she does things some people disagree with or don't see is in the embodiment of a true hero, I actually like seeing heroes with flaws and who go through personal struggles. It makes them more relatable and makes me want to root for them more. Yet, in the end, she is still a strong and powerful female role model that I increasingly grew to admire as the series progressed. Plus, maybe it's because I watched all the seasons pretty close together, but Buffy certainly grows and develops as a character. There is depth and complexity that surrounds this character, even though she is the main protagonist and always the focus.

Actually, yes. She is my favourite character. Funny that I always thought I was being boring and clitche by liking her. Now I find that I'm not. It's just that although many people find it hard to, I relate to her more than any other character. I've always found that. Out of my friends, I am Buffy. I completely understand how she might be hard for others to relate to though. She's a bit complicated and all that. I have many friends who like Willow or Tara way more than Buffy herself.

But yeah, just thought I would express myself 😛.
