Do you really think so..? Isn't marriage one the rights you have as a human being..? Do you think the church have the right to make rules like that.. Ok, I don't know.. But some chruches allows gay marriage, so then it's not wrong with a religious marriage right..?

Does anyone have a real argument against gay marriage..? I mean, you don't have to be against it but do you understand how and why people can be against it..?

Well, if the religion states that homosexual marriages are wrong i really don't see how forcefully imposing your values on the religion would be any better. Narrow mindedness is also a right.

But if gay marriage is legally allowed, is it right that the church can decide not to allow it..? And, as I said, all churches aren't against that, so it's like some priests that don't like it or what.. can they make that decision..?

Can you not allow a gay kid in a christian school..?

Thanks to my complete inability to express an emotion, I find any public display of affection weird. But I don't discriminate. 😀

I agree, I find that weird too.. and even weirder myself to do "stuff" with someone in public.. But of course I'm not against it or anything..

In the religious aspect of it, then your beef is with the religion itself, rather than this particular issue. You could argue with the religion about their views on homosexuality, but that's a far bigger issue than just marriage. That's picking faults with the religions' founding principles, and it's between you and your creed as to how you deal with that. If you feel the religion is strong enough to deserve to be better, then isn't it your duty to try and change it's attitude from within? If you consider the problem to be too deep rooted to ever change, then you and your religion might like to part ways over irreconcilable differences.

My personal view is that religious attitudes to homosexuality are largely products of religious' leader's attitudes rather than the other way around.

This debate is going to be quite one sided anyway. On this forum we aren't going to get a real cross section of social opinion because by and large Buffy fans are quite liberal in their views (Or they would have hurled themselves off cliffs long ago. God knows, I was tempted to by all the Spuffy lovin')

I whole heartedly agree that same-sex marriages should be legalized. And if the churches don't believe in it, then quite honestly, that's their problem, as there is a seperation between church and state. Marriage can be done by a Justice of The Peace just as easily as it can be done by a religious leader-so the real issue is if it's ok for the government, and quite honestly, I see no reason why it shouldn't be.

I just mean that.. is it ok for a church to discriminate people like that? If gay marriages are allowed by law, and it's against the law to discriminate people because of sexual orientation.. They shouldn't be allowed to not allow gay people to get married/become priest in the church (and all other things they can do).. right..?

It all falls under separation of Church and State. The State can't really force religions to partake in something that their belief system doesn't support.

And I think the law would be that gay marriage is legal, not that it's illegal if you don't marry them. Some religions won't even marry heterosexual people if they have been divorced.

Religion gets certain exemptions when it comes to stuff like that, because a religion is about shaping it's followers lifestyles in some way. So, if the religion says "Don't eat meat" it's followers have to accept vegetarianism as par for the course. Or they can try to reason with the religious leaders who enforce it's principals. Or they can create their own custom set of beliefs.

Now, vegetarianism is different to being gay.

Vegetarianism is a choice. What religions generally fail to recognise is that homosexuality isn't. You can't ask your followers to stop being gay. So gay members of a religion only have the last two options.

But either way, it's not the governments place to interfere with stuff like that any more than it's religions' place to interfere with law.

Ah, you're right of course, but it's still discriminating..

What i'm saying is that if the churces are that narrow minded we're doing the homosexual spouses a favor. There are lots of other religious churches that are pro-gay marriages.

I personally think the concept of christian schools are wrong. Religious (or political) schools light this red blinky warning sign in my head that says "indoctrination".

Yes! People should be allowed to marry whoever they want. Saying it's wrong doesn't make it so.

My thought pattern is that they should be granted the same rights as married hetero couples in that I personally do not feel that being homosexual is a choice, but rather a part of who they are, and this issue is basically the same as saying people are different because of their skin color. We all know that's not true and I think this falls under the same category. Anything to deprive homosexuals of the rights that all other hetero americans have is a form of prejudice.

well said!

i think that people should be threated the same NO MATTER WHAT.. when it comes to race, religion and sexuality(hetro/homo-sexual).... if two men want to get married why shouldn't they be alowed to do that? or two women?

No one would discriminate against Mike and I getting married so I wouldn't like it if I decided I wanted to be with a woman for the rest of my life and we couldn't get married. Marriage isn't always a big thing to people but it is to me and I want to have the freedom to marry whomever I choose!

I so agree with Cordy on this one. Why should two people be deprived of their happiness just because others consider them abnormal? Hell, if that were always true- I'd be miserable!

its a public poll.

as for gay kid in catholic school...if the kid was out, they'd prolly find some other reason to get him out, unless openminded school and system..then..but..its..tricky, as the acts are sinful, but..not the person, but then agian, thoughts are sin...which..that...
yea..indoctrination..not for everyone..but..yea..i guess you coudl say i was indoctrinated...🙁

hmm... thinking about it recently, i had to appeal(sp?) to get into my catholic school, altho be it ages ago and the school was a sea of homophobic kids (bad times). i'm wondering if my...slight campness, only slight mind you, but back then my voice hadn't broke and i was sooooo girly i dread to think! my brother got in 1 yr befor me, which theoretically should have given me a priority place in the school...but it didn't, instead it was the complete opposit.

aws...my school's rather phobic too. 🙁 its liek The insult and such..highly annoying. go to the school or?...
yea..things like that suck...and..unless ya ask, no real way to tell....forgive my wording, but i wish the world would get it's head on straight. nothign gainst straight ppl, unless phobic, cuz..for some reason, im not so happy with them hating a part of me. go figure.
it didn't used to be like this...*sighs*

In my school there's never been a problem, at all. And by that I mean noone's phobic and noone thinks it's wrong to be gay, but, of course they would react if you told them you're gay.
A guy came to our school and had this "leture" about homosexuality (history and stuff). He asked us if there were any homosexual students there (who were open about it of course, he didn't try to get force people to tell or anything), and I think maybe four people said yes (we were about 90 there), all of them in my clas 🙂 .. heh. Anyway, noone thought that was weird or anything, but I guess they reacted, I guess they were surprised that people wanted to say that out loud, although they've nothing against it.. (did that make sense..?)
