You're of course entitled to your own opinion. Maybe it's just me, and maybe I take it the wrong way, but by calling those shows trash what do you think of people liking the shows? They got bad taste? Something else?

You said it disgusts you when people compare them and you called the other shows trash; those are pretty strong words that some people may find insulting. 😉

There is nothing wrong with having your own opinions, just like there is nothing wrong with people who like other vampire genre shows/books.

I stand by that you're entitled to your opinion. Personally I don't care about the shows you mentioned and has never watched The vampire diaries and I don't plan to. How one express ones opinions is something to think about. Do one want to express ones feeling and/or upset people that think differently than you? Not saying it to put you down or anything. This is my opinion. Agree or don't. Everyone's choice.

The Vampire Diaries & True Blood are not bad vampire shows. There could be worse shows about vampires out there.

I'm not saying that The Vampire Diaries & True Blood are better than btvs or ATS.

I've never watched TVD, but I actually dig True Blood. I don't watch it on a regular basis, but whenever it's own I enjoy. I love Tara. She's awesome. It's really not bad, although like [MENTION=10728]Abbeycat[/MENTION] said I wouldn't say it's better than BTVS or ATS.

Not that I'm trying to be personal TCS, I mean trash-talking Buffy fans in general. Twilight isn't brilliant, but it's decent.

Personally, I'm in love with "The Vampire Diaries". I don't see a need to compare it to BtVS just because it's a vampire show. I also happen to really like "The Twilight Saga", and I agree with [MENTION=8557]Skytteflickan88[/MENTION] that even though it's not brilliant writing, it's decent, and that's good enough for me.

You know what disgusts me?? When people "hate" certain things for the simple fact that they're not BtVS or "Angel" or written/created by Joss Whedon. The world would be such a boring place if every show/movie were the same, don't you think? Give new things a chance, and if you haven't ever actually watched something, don't judge it on principal.

I've tried out all 3 and I'm just not into any of them...Had the most success with True Blood but got bored after a while.
But that probably has little to do with how much I love Buffy; I just didn't like the other shows!

In your defense I do prefer the way Buffy stuck religiously to traditional Vampire lore for the most part (turning to dust and sleeping in coffins aside). I also like the creepier special effects and Vampire makeup of Buffy because it is scarier looking (especially Vamp Darla, her look was awesome). For me the vampire guy in love with a human girl is much more interesting when the its the human girl's job to kill him.


I often kind of think while I'm watching Vampire Diaries "this is enjoyable but it doesn't hold a candle to BtVS or Ats" I still enjoy it though, mostly because BtVs has been off the air for almost ten years now and although I enjoy watching reruns I've pretty much had all of the episodes memorized for the past decade so I enjoy watching something new. I couldn't get in to True Blood or Twilight but I gave them a chance.

This is kind of off topic but is anyone else bothered by the loud alternative rock tracks that play during key scenes/conversations between characters on shows like Vampire Diaries, Ringer etc? I'd rather focus on the actors and their delivery of the lines than on the loud background lyrics that are playing but maybe I'm just an old fogey. Still, I'm really glad BtVS allowed the characters to talk with a silent background or just faint original score playing. Anyone else notice this?

This is sooo true. I hate that. Although some of the songs they play somehow end up on my Ipod, but uh.....yeah I hate that. 😛 It drains the life out of the tension, especially in heavy dramatic scenes.

Although I prefer VD's (lol) more natural and realistic relationship drama over the cheap gimmickyness of that "forbidden love" crap (to me), as a means to drive the angst. I also like the music. It doesn't take my focus off of the dialogue at all. I find Nina Dobrev to be a better actress than early seasons Sarah Michelle Gellar. I'm also kinda in love with Caroline too. She reminds of Cordelia a little. I like her scenes with Stefan a lot. They have great chemistry. Candice Accolla is so amazing, adorable, and funny! I remember hearing somewhere that she was gonna play the new Buffy? Any truth to that?

Comparing all the vampire shows simply because they have vampires is like saying Bones is just like CSI or Law & Order just because they involve crimes.

These shows are all vastly different, and many, many people on these boards love them. Personally, I'm addicted to The Vampire Diaries, because I read the books years ago, then saw there was a show. The shows and the books are really different too.

I know Buffy came before these other prime time vampire shows, but Buffy killed vampires. In TVD, three main characters are vampires, and it shows them leading their lives despite the odds. They're not fighting various demons and monsters every night. It's very different. You can't really compare them.

That being said, it doesn't really bother me when people compare the two, but it does bother me when someone tries to say one's better than the other. They're all so different that there really isn't a "better" in this situation.

I absolutely love The Vampire Diaries. I started watching it a few months back and am now eagerly waiting for season 3 to air here, which unfortunately probably won't be until some time next year. I can't say I'm addicted to it like I was with Buffy and Supernatural, in that I actually need to watch it to function and think about it 24/7, but I really like it. It's very well-written, well-acted, and the characters are captivating. I ship Stelena, but I adore Damon. I've loved Caroline since the beginning of season 2. As others have said, I don't think you can compare Buffy and TVD. The structure of their episodes and seasons are different, and so are the mythology and plot. I couldn't choose between them.

I can't speak for True Blood as I haven't watched it, but I can say that in my opinion, Buffy is undoubtedly superior to Twilight. That's coming from a former Twilight fan. Just my opinion, though. I can understand both why people like it and why they don't like it.

Aw, they did? That sucks. I was really, legitimately interested to see a new take on it. Just because Joss isn't doing it, doesn't mean it CAN'T be good. It could've been a really well done, truly new and interesting direction. And we missed out on it because a bunch of whiny, obsessive fans have to throw a fit.
