I feel like the writers through in the Buffy call out because the writers originally wanted SMG for this. Idk the details of why it didn't work out to have her for the dream sequences, but it didn't.

I think that was the plan.

I always thought it was a new rumor. I remember the skuttlebutt back in the day being that even though he was 'with' Cordy his soul always belonged to Buffy. Thus stating her name when he lost his soul. I never heard until recently that Buffy was supposed to be in the episode.

I know she was supposed to be in The Girl in Question, but never heard that one.

I'm still trying to hunt down the Whedon comment ('demonizing rapists') and I've already skimmed hundreds of pages. And there are thousands more. You know I could cry every time I say something and someone wants me to back it up. I had over 200 links on my previous computer, all related to old interviews and information regarding BtVS/AtS, most of which can only be accessed via wayback machine now so you won't find them with searching the net today. And I didn't save them so when my PC went bye bye, so did all those links.

As for SMG being in the episode, I don't know if that was ever confirmed. I just remember reading that a lot 10+ years ago.

I think it would have undermined the storyline direction between Angel and Cordy. Plus it would have added another element into an already busy plot. Think its just one of those internet rumours.

I think the problem is trying to find a credible source. That's true for a lot of info that came out closer to when the shows were still on the air. People are always surprised when I mention that 'Amends' was supposed to be Angel's exit episode and AtS a mid-season replacement. But that's because back then the internet wasn't as advanced as it is today, especially with social media. So a lot was lost over the years because old forums can't be searched anymore and only accessed (if you are lucky) by wayback machine. And then you have to find what you are looking for in thousands of pages. And sometimes worse, when an older forum links to an even older forum. But people posted interviews they saw on TV or read in magazines. But uploading videos and scanning magazine articles, also not that big back then.

But back then DB for example gave interviews on the fact that AtS would be a mid-season replacement and he had to take it back not long after when the network changed their mind.

The Latest on "Angel" from Ultimate TV (July 18. 1998):

That's one example. The rumors about it being a mid-season replacement persisted (maybe it was bad reporting, no one is really sure) to the point where DB had to deny them later.

I think it was bad reporting. The other thing is possibly it was meant to be midseason THAT season, as Amends was at the midseason mark.

What I quoted was from the Summer of 1998, aka after S2 and before S3. There were also interviews with Whedon before then and articles after and the mid-season replacement persisted until it had to be denied months later. DB specifically denied the mid-season replacement in January of '99 when he talked to Wanda.

I would have actually been down for Angel leaving around Amends sort of time. That would have been a great exit. It was after that than his arc with Buffy really started to drag. You still could have had him make a cameo during the Prom. Guess they would have had to have re-worked the ending of Amends a little to explain him leaving Sunnydale of course.
