Joss Whedon to guest star on Veronica Mars? I just received a 'Letter to Fans' email from Rob Thomas' website, and in it Rob says, "...you heard it here first "“ Joss has agreed to guest star on the show. We're firming up plans to have him play a testy, rental car manager in episode six."
 
What what what?! Omg, that is so awesome. I'm not really believing it until I get a confirmation from the man himself though, but it doesn't seem like a rumour or anything, so yay!
 
Okay, it's official now.... I can no longer ignore this show... I've got to watch. 😉

I did. His extraordinarily generous comments really made my week. I sent him a thank you e-mail, and he sent me back a note that said that, in watching Veronica Mars, he’s come to understand, better, the fervor of Buffy fans.

The things he complimented about our show — the plotting, the dialogue, the relationships, the acting - are all elements I’ve admired in Buffy. Joss’ comments actually meant so much to me that I e-mailed my parents the link though I’m quite sure they don’t know who he is.

I’ve also put Season 2 of Buffy in my Netflix queue. I think I never let myself get fully-hooked by Buffy for the same reason that I feel a lot of people don’t watch Veronica. By the time the enthusiastic word-of-mouth reached me, I felt like I’d already missed the bus. I was afraid of being so far behind in the mythology that I couldn’t follow the ongoing storylines, though I would occasionally see episodes and admire the snappiness, the pacing, the angst.

And then - you heard it here first - Joss has agreed to guest star on the show. We’re firming up plans to have him play a testy, rental car manager in episode six."
 
Go on! I ordered mine yesterday. Movie Tyme ship when they get it as well, people were getting Lost about 2 weeks before it came out.

Anyway, I love this show. Can't wait for the second season. Shame none of the dingbat stations over here have picked it up (well the main ones, LivingTV has but put it at a bad timeslot and not many people watch LivingTV anyway).

I may have made mention at one point in my Spoilers Anonymous column about Kevin Smith making an appearance in an episode of Veronica Mars next season. Now there's unconfirmed word out that Joss Whedon will be appearing on the sixth episode of the new season, playing the part of a "testy rental car manager." Seriously guys, I love the show too! Can I get a guest spot? Oh that's right, I need to be a writing and directing genius first. I'll get right on that.

Joss Whedon, the "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel" creator who gushed online about UPN's "Veronica Mars" this summer, has been rewarded with a guest spot on the show. The network says he'll play a rental-car manager who has a scene with Veronica (Kristen Bell) in this season's sixth episode.

The cameo came about after Whedon effusively praised "Veronica Mars" on the Buffyverse-centric web site Whedonesque.com. Posting to the site's (which is independently run) boards last month, Whedon wrote:

"Veronica Mars" creator Rob Thomas, whose show has often been compared to "Buffy," returned the praise on his own site, and also dropped the news that Whedon would make a guest appearance, which UPN has confirmed. The "Serenity" writer-director has popped up before on his shows "Angel" and "Firefly," but he's never appeared on someone else's.

Whedon is the second cult auteur booked for a guest spot on "Mars" this season. "Clerks" and "Chasing Amy" director Kevin Smith, a friend of "Mars" producer Dan Etheridge, will play a convenience-store clerk in the show's second episode.

Veronica will be looking for a new car then. Shame her old one got bust up, came in quite handy

Now comes word from UPN that “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” creator Joss Whedon will appear in “Veronica Mars” 2.6 (a November sweeps ‘sode) as a car rental agent with whom Veronica has a conversation.

Okay, I just saw the first episode yesterday but I thought it was really really bad and I really disliked it... but since everybody is raving about it (including Joss)... will it get any better? Should I give it another chance?
 
Hmm well normally it takes a few to get into it. But most people say "it was okay" rather than really bad. Still, give it a few episodes and you may warm to it. Think episodes four or five are the "magic numbers".
 
Yea I would say give it few more episodes.. But, just being curious, what didn't you like about it?
 
I simply don't buy it. A high school girl being a private eye? And the people she goes to school form an awe-inspiring bikers gang?! Here I was thinking Dawson and his friends from the Creek didn't act their age. Moreover, I wasn't really fond of some pieces of dialogue. Too much pop culturee-refferences amounted into incomprehensible blurts at times. Besides that I generally are not too fond of conflict based on social-class.
 
But you think a teenager being a vampire slayer is more realistic? If you don't buy the overall premise and feel of the show, I'm not sure I can do anything for you. But if it was simply a bad episode, then check out the premiere on September 28 before you judge.

Exactly. Someone saying they don't buy it on a board dedicated to a girl named Buffy who slays vampires and saves the world atleast once a year from an apocalypse.

The only thing I disagree with Slayerpower over is for this person to watch the premiere. It's his loss. The show is great. Some people just don't have the vision to get it.
 
Lol, yeah I guess that it might sound a bit weird to just not believe it... but Buffy is in a fantasy-setting, whereas this show is in a realistic world. What can I say... Joss DID and Veronica didn't convince me... but I'll give it another try.
