So, Master Whedon's new show is officially called S.H.I.E.L.D..
Joss Whedon might be coming back to TV. ABC has ordered a pilot from Marvel TV executive produced by Whedon titled S.H.I.E.L.D.


The project is set in the same universe as Whedon's Avengers film and follows the law enforcement group headed by Nick Fury. The pilot will be written by Whedon and his brother Jed, along with Maurissa Tancharoen. Deadline reports that Whedon also might direct the pilot too.

In the Marvel universe, S.H.I.E.L.D stands for which stands for the Strategic Hazard Intervention Espionage Logistics Directorate (or Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division). Production on the pilot is expected to begin ASAP.

This makes sense, it was really the only direction they could have gone, interesting that it will be in the same universe, I assume that means they won't be recasting any of the already established characters, wonder if that means all new characters who'll just mention the movie stuff from time to time.
 
What's better than a S.H.I.E.L.D. movie? A S.H.I.E.L.D. tv show!!!!!! I am very happy right now 😀
 
Cool, and good for Joss. Jed and Maurissa did a good job on Dollhouse so I don't doubt they'll do good with this as well 🙂
Though I doubt it's something I'll be watching, but I guess only time will tell that
 
I also could imagine that they're going to bring back Agent Coulson in flashbacks or something. Or maybe the series even starts before the events of The Avengers.

Just as a point of interest, back when ex-Sargent in the Army, ex-Colonel in the CIA Nick Fury (White back then, with a foll head of hair, but still with the eye patch) took command of S.H.I.E.L.D., it stood for Supreme Headquarters International Espionage Law (enforcement) Division, which I always thought was a lousy name, since they were neither supreme, international, they had little or nothing to do with traditional espionage, and they weren't a division of any larger organization. The newer titles work much better at describing the group and its duties.
 
S.H.I.E.L.D? This may sound like a stupid question, but is this something new or is it based on something familiar in the Marvel world? Like Smallville is based off the Superman comics? I would have no idea considering I'm not a comic person. 😛

S.H.I.E.L.D. isn't new. It's been around for years in comics, I think since the 60's.

News broke last night that Joss Whedon’s long-rumored Avengers TV spinoff would focus on S.H.I.E.L.D., the shadowy government organization led by Nick Fury. 1. A new Joss Whedon TV show? Fantastic. I’m there. Love Firefly. Love Buffy. Haven’t watched Angel but everyone tells me it’s great. I even love Dollhouse, a flawed-but-wonderful TV show that most closely resembled a mash-up between the French New Wave and The A-Team.

2. But a new Joss Whedon TV show starring a popular brand of licensed characters? Hmmm. Well, I’m a little bit concerned that working within the boardroom-mandated boundaries of big corporate multimedia brands will hamstring Whedon’s creativity.

3. Then again, he did great with The Avengers, which is as big and corporate and multimedia and branded as they come. And the fact that the TV show has a built-in fanbase will make the pilot look even more appealing to ABC, which ended the 2011-2012 season in fourth place and could really use a hail-mary ambitious mass-appeal cray-cray TV show......

This sounds awesome, don't know it will work considering actors who play fury/black widow and hawkeye probably won't do a tv show, but who cares, marvel and joss can only mean awesomeness

Yes, that seems to be a big problem. They're really busy actors, especially Sam Jackson.

Oh can we get SMG to dye her hair and play Black Widow? I want her back on TV damn it.

I'd personally prefer Eliza Dushku or Summer Glaus, but I doubt we'll get our wish, it's more likely black widow will just be absent.

Summer Glau would be soooo awesome! Not as Black Widow, but I want Summer to kick some serious ass in that series!!!
 
Considering I'm very new to the Marvel universe, I would LOVE to see Summer Glau be Black Widow, for I don't know any other femae character she could play. But she'd be pretty good in this role, being a ballet dancer and all, imo.

But Sarah and Eliza would be awesome choices too.
 
There are plenty of other characters that available in the Marvel stable. Sarah could play the Invisible Girl, on loan from the Fantastic Four, Eliza the Scarlet Witch, and Summer could be Red Sonja (wrong time line, I know, but there should be some way to explain her presence, and Summer in that chain mail bikini would be an asset to any show)
 
I'd say since it's set in the marvel movie verse we won't see any established characters, or any big characters that could be in upcoming movies, I'd assume we'd see a field team of shield agents all new, who mention Fury from time to time to tie it in, possibly a cameo from maria hill, since I'd say Cobie Smulders could be easier to get (although getting CBS to let her appear on abc could be an issue)

And Id say we'd see smaller heros from time to time, since Marvel have actors ties to a certain number of movies deal and have mentioned before that they had to be careful using him in those after credits scenes because each of those counted as being in a movie, wonder how that would effect the possibility of an appearance.

Also it seemed like Joss got on well with the cast, which could help with appearances on tv
