That would be so damn lame.

But the longer I think about it, the more I get to like the idea that everything was just a lie. I think we never got to know if Coulson is really dead. Maybe Fury lied, just the way he lied about the cards. But saying that the guy that got stabbed was just some kind of robot would be low and really cheap. I hope Joss won't go there.

Apparently, back in Season 6, when Tara was killed, Willow prayed to the wrong god to have her resurrected. What Osiris couldn't do, Joss can,and does, do on a regular basis.

Why does he even bother killing people off in the first place, if he's gonna keep bringing them back?

Maybe it wasn't his intention to bring him back. Could be that the producers told him to. He's not in control over the whole Marvel universe only because he wrote and directed one movie.

I'd love to see Harry Lennix. I think he was great as Boyd. I could really see him play a similar character in SHIELD.
 
While I'm happy there's going to be another Joss Whedon TV show about, I'm a complete outsider to the whole Marvel thing so I'm not sure I'll be watching it when it goes on the air.

Does watching the Avengers help do you think? Ideally I'd love to get excited about it but it seems a bit more specific than other shows without pre-established fanbases.

Yes, I guess you should watch The Avengers and some of the Avengers movies, so you know what SHIELD is. That would definitely help. The movies are really fun to watch and absolutely recommendable.
However, I've got to say, I know the movies, but I have absolutely no clue what the show is going to be like. I'm not really über-excited about it, to be honest, but I'm really, really curious and interested.

I would be more inclined to believe that if Joss hadn't done the same thing to characters of his own creation. Buffy has died twice so far, Darla was dusted, brought back fully human, died and turned a second time, then dusted again. Angel was sent to hell to save the world, Faith and Cordy have both recovered from near death comas, and that doesn't even include the characters who have so far been resurrected in the comics series or those who, apparently will be in the near future.

The death of a character is supposed to impart a certain shock and sense of loss. The death of one of Whedon's characters no longer does that for me, and, I would guess, quite a few of his other fans.

I read that Angel was brought back by the network, because they wanted the spin-off. So I guess that's fairly similar to the SHIELD situation. However, with Buffy dying and coming back I have no problem at all. She's the main character and you know that she'll return.
But you're right about the other characters. Although I think that, for example, Darla's resurrection wasn't 'cheap'. It's easy bringing back a character in a world of magic and demons, so I hope they'll find a more elegant way of bringing back Coulson than just saying he was a robot or something like that.

Joss Whedon has recruited ER alumna Ming-Na Wen for one of the leads in his ABC drama pilot Marvel's S.H.I.E.L.D., which he is co-writing and directing. The project, from Marvel TV and ABC TV Studios, is based on a peacekeeping group found in both the comic book and feature film universes, including the blockbuster 2012 movie The Avengers. Ming-Na will play Agent Melinda May. Soulful and slightly damaged by her combat experiences, Melinda is an ace pilot, a weapons expert and a soldier who can "” and has "” gone beyond the call of duty. The character was originally listed on the pilot's casting breakdown as Agent Althea Rice, aka The Cavalry. Ming-Na is the second actor cast in S.H.I.E.L.D., joining Clark Gregg, who is reprising his Iron Man, Thor and Avengers role as Agent Phil Coulson.

Whedon is co-writing the pilot script with his brother Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen. The three executive produce with Jeffrey Bell and Marvel TV's Jeph Loeb. Ming-Na, who is reverting to her full name, Ming-Na Wen, comes to S.H.I.E.L.D. with solid sci-fi credentials after recent stints on Syfy's Eureka and Stargate Universe. She is repped by Innovative Artists, KLWGN and Jackoway Tyerman.

Seen Ming-Na in all those shows ER, Stargate Universe and Eureka.
I've liked her in all. So I consider this good news.

I never really cared for Ming-Na in anything I've seen her in. Her role in SGU was just awful.

However, Joss usually gets good performances out of his casts... so I won't start freaking out yet.

It’s early yet, as this Marvel-ous pilot continues with casting, but four words out of ABC president Paul Lee’s mouth are perhaps all you need to hear. “It’s very Joss Whedon,” Lee told TVLine at the Saban Free Clinic Gala (at which he was honored). As such, “We’re optimistic, because Joss is a genius and we love the idea and we love what we’ve seen,” Lee added. “But it’s early days, and it’s a long way to go between now and a successful series. But we are very excited about it.”

Relative newcomer Brett Dalton has joined the cast of Joss Wedon’s ABC pilot Marvel’s S.H.I.E.L.D., TVLine has learned exclusively.

The highly anticipated project is based on a peacekeeping group that appeared in various Marvel comics and in the summer blockbuster film The Avengers, which Whedon wrote and directed. The title’s acronym refers to a secret peacekeeping organization called Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division.

Dalton, whose credits include guest stints on Army Wives and Blue Bloods as well as a supporting role in National Geographic Channel’s forthcoming telepic Killing Lincoln, will play Agent Grant, one of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s highly-skilled rising stars. He’s deadly, precise, and cool under fire — but not so great with the people skills.

Dalton joins previously cast Ming-Na and Clark Gregg, the latter of whom will reprise his big-screen role of agent Phil Coulson.

Whedon, who is directing the pilot, co-wrote the script with Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen. If ABC orders the pilot to series, all three will serve as exec producers alongside Jeffrey Bell and Marvel Television’s Jeph Loeb.

Nashville actress Chloe Bennet is the last lead cast member to join Joss Whedon's S.H.I.E.L.D. series. Her character is named Skye and she's described as "a confident woman who is slightly obsessed with superhero culture and the shadow organizations that exist within it. She's edgy and can out-talk anyone with her unflappable nature."

Bennet joins Ming-Na as Agent Melinda May, Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson, Brett Dalton as Agent Grant Ward, Elizabeth Henstridge as Agent Gemma Simmons, and Ian De Caestecker as Agent Leo Fitz.

The story will revolve around the activities of the top-secret S.H.I.E.L.D. espionage organization featured throughout the Marvel films. Whedon is tentatively set to direct the pilot that he's co-writing with his brother Jed Whedon and Jed's wife Maurissa Tancharoen. It was also recently revealed that the series will premiere in the fall of next year.

I've never watched Nashville so I have no idea if she's a solid actress or not, but I'm sure Whedon knows what he's doing.

They also say its possiblely looking at a fall 2013 release, I don't really know if that's a short time for a show done casting but it seems soon?

Well they usually cast and film the pilot for a March/April viewing right? So that the studio exec can make their decision for May and begin filming for real in June/July...

That's what I heard anyways.
 
I know all channels are pretty ruthless when it comes to axing under performing series'... But I'm so glad Fox aren't making this!
 
Joss Whedon Already Working on More Scripts for S.H.I.E.L.D.

Joss Whedon is currently shooting the pilot episode of his highly anticipated S.H.I.E.L.D. series but on top of that it's been revealed that he's already working on scripts for future episodes. ABC president Paul Lee recently talked about the series, and basically explains how awesome it's going to be.

According to TV Line the series has been put on the fast track and will be ready for review "a lot earlier than others." He went on to say that the script is "great" with "a lot of funny male/female relationships" as well as "a lot of action," and feels it could be a highly co-viewed show, which means both kids and adults will enjoy watching it.

A few months ago Lee said the script was "very Joss." When asked to clarify what that meant he said, "You know how Joss is so high/low? How he's able to be intense and epic and suddenly funny/silly? He's got that ability to be super-entertaining."

He went on to say that "Joss is very engaged and already working on scripts" and said that if the show was picked up it could air any day at any time slot because "Marvel has the ability to bring the whole family."

Clark Gregg will be back as Agent Coulson, then there's Ming-Na as Agent Melinda May, Brett Dalton as Agent Grant, Elizabeth Henstridge as Agent Gemma Simmons, and Iain De Caestecker as Agent Leo Fitz.

The story will revolve around the activities of the top-secret S.H.I.E.L.D. espionage organization featured throughout the Marvel films. We'll most likely get to see the first episode of S.H.I.E.L.D. this fall

Joss gave an update on the characters for SHIELD saying they wont be focusing on the established characters but if schedules permit will bring them in (Which Smulders said she would previously)

Joss Whedon this weekend attended the Streamy Awards where he had been nominated, in an acting category, for his guest appearance in Husbands. He didn't win but, hey, Ken Jeong hasn't just directed the SHIELD pilot, doesn't have Much Ado About Nothing coming out in the summer and won't be writing and directing the next Avengers movie, so what's "winning" anyway?

While he was at the ceremony, Whedon spared a few words for TV Line about SHIELD, including some mention of how pre-existing Marvel characters will, or won't, be integrated into the show.

From their report:

That said, Whedon says to expect "not a ton" of familiar faces from the Marvel-verse, though "there's a little bit of talk of that" for any possible future the project has in primetime. "Right now, I want to involve people in the characters that we've created for the show," Whedon said, "and then we'll worry about [the other stuff]."

And specifically in respect of Maria Hill:

In actuality, Whedon cautions that Smulders' schedule "will permit very little" involvement, "but if we can get a hold of her anytime, we will."

Besides talking about who won't be appearing, Whedon outlined the appeal of the show. It's the positivity, which he says comes from comic books:

I'm excited about the show because it's a very hopeful show. It's not about murder, and it's not about crime, and it's not people looking into their own belly buttons. It's about people who are trying to help each other, and that's one of the things I loved about comic books. They had costumes and the villains were cool [but] they stood for something, and I like doing a show that does that.

Had costumes? Were cool? I guess he's been too busy to turn the pages for the last"¦ crikey. I can't even remember the last time he wasn't busy.

SHIELD hasn't formally been given a series commission but I can't believe that ABC would be so daft. Expect to see it on air this autumn.

Both feature of a different logo then is used in the movies(Although closer to the one in the comics), which some people are speculating means it's an older verstion which means the series will be pre-The Avengers, which would also explain Coulson!
