I guess the point is though that on a discussion board than if all you have to say is 'I agree' then maybe you're wasting your time saying that. It's not really worth it as it doesn't add to the conversation. Maybe if you read something that you find really truly amazing and insightful then you could PM the person saying 'wow, just read your post on spangel and it was incredible, really agree' or something.

EXACTLY. Cait just hit the nail on the head. If all you have to say is "I agree", then there's not really a point in leaving a reply, since you're not adding much to the conversation. If you agree, tell us why and give examples if you can. That way it keeps the discussion flowing.

Usually if i leave karma i do have something to say, but it just seems a bit pointless making a new post if its only like one sentence i have to say.

Well the point of karma is to cut out on posts you don't have to make.

You can hit the I agree button and not say anything, because thats better then, making a new post that just agrees with what someone has said without actually adding to the discussion.
Using the I agree and not saying anything is perfectly fine.
Using the I disagree option and not saying anything is perfectly fine.

The issue is people were writing nasty things in the comments section (Still selecting I agree, but writing something mean - this has nothing to do with the I disagree option)

As I'm sure your all aware we have a minimal letters limit for a post, and if you fill your post with "Message to Short" we delete those as they don't add to the conversation. Anything you wanted to say in a "Message to Short Post" can be said in Karma.

You can't use the disagree option and say nothing, you must enter a comment.

This, exactly. I mean, I thought that this was the whole point of karma. Sometimes I agree, but the reason(s) why have been said a billion times and saying it again would just be redundant...and I really prefer not to make the "message too short" posts.

I don't get why there has to be a huge conversation as to whether karma is actually useful or not. It's an enjoyable feature that often times attracts people back to the boards and most of the time serves to put a smile on someone's face! Feedback, or "constructive criticism" is always a good thing. People tend to think out their posts more before posting knowing that it can add or remove from their karma.

Obviously the board can function just fine with or without the karma feature, but it's pretty clear through this thread that most people would prefer to have that feature enabled.

Anyway, wasn't it stated early on that the problem was not with the karma itself, but with the people who leave nasty comments that just happen to be in karma comments? Karma itself is not the issue here. Anyway I still look forward to its return 🙂

I agree with you. :giggle2:

I think those of you who keep complaining about the feature being gone need to remember that this is a discussion board; not a karma board. The point of an online forum isn't to have all these cool bells and whistles for the members to use. A forum is for people to come together to discuss things... Not to come leave karma posts on everyone's posts. Of course karma is fun to use, as is the chat room, etc. but if you like or dislike a post why not just reply to the thread or post and say so an explain why? Isn't that why we're here? Cause if it's not why you're here then maybe some people need to go elsewhere to a forum that better fits their style, or create their own. Just sayin.

Extremely well put. I couldn't agree more!

I think the good thing about the karma was that we could agree in short. There was no need in long explanations, which now we have to give, because the regular post doesn't allow short messages. It's not about discussing, it's about agreeing without the need to explain why, without any other additions. It was comfy and it was fast. It's gonna take an adjustment, because it's not that we can't live without it, but it was another tool, a useful tool, to connect to people and their posts.

Instead of Karma (which I love), how about having the feature to "Thank" posts or to give posts a "Thumbs Up." There would be no "Thumbs down" feature or anything like that to spare the more sensitive members.

Its a easy way to show how highly members value a post without leaving comments, and if anyone disagrees with the post they can always reply to it.

This system would surely cut down the number of negative karma/rep complaints.

A "Like" button? I like that! I would give you karma for that but....

lol. I've seen so many posts I want to give karma to in the past few days that its not even funny.

Yeah, basically a like button. Other boards I frequent have it and it never upsets anyone.

I'll tell you why I liked it. Besides the nice idea behind it, I think it's possible to add here. There were good suggestions here in this thread, but some weren't really possible to add to the forum, the admins can't do all they want with it. And I think a like button can be done. I don't really go to other boards, but I've seen it in many websites and blogs, and that's a pretty easy feature to add, I believe. It's doable.

Yeah I've seen that on a lot of forum sites and it works quite well.

Guys once again.

Karma not the issue.

What people were writing in the karma was the issue.

Karma is a really handy tool for leaving quick replies that cut out on crap in the threads

Correct, that's what we're saying. And by having something to replace it but without the option to say mean things inside it, it might be a good solution. Like the "like" button. You either like the post or you don't. If you don't, that's okay, nothing wrong with that. But there won't be an option to disagree in a mean way this way. Because as you already said and we understood it, the content of the disagree option is the problem. So... a Like button will give us all the easy and fun way to agree with posts, that option will be kept, we all like it, but there won't be a way to be mean and leave mean messages. Wouldn't that be a good solution?

Edit: agree with EvilWillow, a karma is soooooo much more fun. I'd love it if it stayed.

Well said. (See, this is one of the moments where an agreeing post may be useless, but karma or a like button would be useful 😉)
