Kazaa

All of this is true I believe. My bro deleted Kazaa a while ago coz he said it wasn't safe.
Now, according to him, hardly anyone still use Kazaa, which makes it more dangerous for ppl who still have it, + there are tons of viruses in the files that you download.
Can someone advise me a good stuff to replace Kazaa ? Coz I tried eDonkey, but I can't make it work.

What Mr. Pointy said is correct. Kazaa is spyware laden, has many corrupt files, and a growing number of viruses target Kazaa specifiically. It is also making a move towards being a paid service.

Try Ares for ease of use, or Shareaza for wide file selection. WinMx is all right, but there are too many lineups. It's expecting an upgrade soon though.

You can use K-Lite, it's an edited version without the spyware, and it much more powerful, auto-'find more sources', auto find more etc etc...

Anyway, does anyone have a real source to back this up, 'cause I don't believe this!

i use winmx. in my opinion thats the best for downloading and sharing files and stuff.
 
I heard the reason they had to close it was because they are downloading music and for free....and i heard its illegal to do that. Oh yeah and they're angry because music stores are losing money cause everyone is downloading it now. Unfortunatley....When i tell my brother this he'll go nuts!

Oh and for replacements Imesh is a real good one, or so im told. :: tu ::

I did a search for Kazaa shut down and came up with the following....

Speaking with RatFaced, one of the Kazaa Lite forum moderators today and our contact at K-Lite, I have uncovered news that the Kazaa Lite K++ project has been shut down by Sharman Networks on grounds of copyright infringement.
The project, which had been set up to block spy and ad ware within the Kazaa Media Desktop Program has achieved notoriety within the P2p world through its simplistic approach and success in reverse engineering the Kazaa application.

However, the program infringed on the copyright of Sharman Networks, the company that now own and program the Kazaa Media Desktop application, after the purchase of the code and copyright in 2002. The FastTrack (Kazaa) network is financed through advertising systems, which Kazaa Lite K++ does not include, and so was seen as a threat by the owners.

Sharman have threatened legal action, and ordered that the offending content be removed from the official Kazaa Lite sites, including http://www.kazaalite.tk/ which now contains no reference to the existance of the application.

RatFaced said that the decision was “Ironic, that Kazaa is complaining about copyright issues, especially as K-Lite ++ stands for everything that Kazaa CLAIMS to stand for... but fails to deliver.”

We will perhaps never see Kazaa Lite again, but we can hope that users will remain aware of the spyware that is hidden inside the Kazaa application, which is used to finance the creation of the software.

eMule and WinMX offer spyware-free alternatives to Kazaa.

I wonder if this news is being misinterpreted? Although it's fairly old news. You're right though if Kazaa was being shut down, whether it was due to legal action against them or not, it would be all over the news.

Especially since the people cracking down on these sorts of file-sharing programs WANT these to be very public cases..sort of a warning.
 
Wait a second, Kazaa isn't closing, the spyware-less version of Kazaa is. 😀 phew, existing user will probably still be able to use it though.
 
Exactly, Kazaa Lite ++ or whatever the spyware-free version of Kazaa is shutting down...not Kazaa on a whole.

Actually Allycat I'm not sure if you're asking for prove on the statements I made concerning the problems with Kazaa, or proof on the original statement of this thread that Kazaa is being shut down.

I can prove my statements. I can't prove Kazaa is being shut down. I don't believe it. There's nothing at Zeropaid.com about it. If Kazaa we're shutting down, it would be all over the front page of Zeropaid.

Ana 8, Allycat and others have mentioned programs like Kazaa Lite or
KLite 2.6 .

Kazaa lite was a hack of the Kazaa program that stripped the spyware from Kazaa and added functions. I've never actually used it, but I do know it got many raves as being much better than the original Kazaa. It also received much criticism (mostly from Kazaa), because it was a hack.

Last month Kazaa sued Kazaa lite. It was supposed to put them out of operation. I've heard rumours it hasn't. I've heard people say you can still find Kazaa lite, and it still works. I'm not that interested personally, so I never checked it out.

It doesn't matter anyway, because there are other programs such as KLite 2.6 that do the same thing Kazaa lite did.

Be careful though, there are also scam programs out there that try to sell you free programs such as Kazaa lite. Don't pay for them.

Frenchy Faith asks if there are any safer filesharing programs for sharing her legal, non-copyrighted 🙂 files.

A few people have mentioned WinMx: Yeah I could recommend that one. It has good selection. The RIAA and it's file corrupting thugs don't seem to target it like they do Kazaa. It's free. The thing most people complain about with WinMx though, are the lineups for files.

Someone mentioned Imesh. As far as I know Imesh has always had spyware. Has that changed? Either way I wouldn't recommend it.

Someone mentioned Bit torrent. I haven't tried it yet, but I've heard good things about it. Apparently it's quite fast. The only criticism I've heard of it is it can be a little difficult to learn for novice users.

Someone mentioned edonkey. The scoop on edonkey is that it's good for large files. I tried it, and it didn't play nice with my firewall, so I moved on.

Here's the two I'm recommending:

Ares

Ares is the new kid on the block and becoming very popular, very quickly. It is easy to use, has a decent selection, although not great yet, RIAA ignored so far, and is free of spyware if you do not accept the "NavHelper" plug-in at install.

Shareaza

Shareaza is spyware free, and has tons of functions. Also there are many magnetlinks useable by Shareaza. Magnet Links are verified files you can find at places like peerweb, or sharelive. I'm liking Shareaza.
 
Yes Ana Shareaza works fast.

You can often get even greater speed if you use magnet links through shareaza.

I told you about magnetlinks earlier where you can get verified files. You will find many Angel Fans to discuss stuff with if you find the right magnetlink site. 😉. I think it might be sharelive.

It was my impression he wanted proof that Kazaa was shutting down. Hence my post on the Kazaa Lite info I found, and us thinking that someone had misinterpreted it ...and thought that Kazaa was shutting down.

Ok I think I made that more confusing! 🙂

Thanks for the very useful rundown on the fileshare programs. I found it helpful. I am using WinMX at the moment and, you're right, the queues can be long - it's probably better for folks with broadband who can leave it online downloading (or uploading - don't forget it's a two-way street folks 🙂) all day while they're at work or school or wherever.
