well if the "younger audience" acts the way Ke$ha or any other pop artist does THAT IS THE FAULT ON BAD PARENTING

I've been a fan of Britney Spears & Madonna for years and a recent fan of Lady Gaga and I havent acted like a slut or acted our my sexual desires in public

That's a little rude, and a huge generalisation, other things come in to play other than just parenting. Media influences people in different ways, and bad parenting is just a cop out.

Um bad parenting is not a cop out its the truth, kids acting like that is all cause of bad parenting or being influenced to act like that by bad parents or role models.

Ke$ha is in her 20's for gods sake she should be able to act anyway she wants plus its not like she's like that irl

I'm not saying kids should use Kesha as an excuse to act the way they do it doens't necessarily mean its their parents fault either. Some kids are more easily influenced. There will be 14 year olds listening to Kesha and watching how she acts who will try to emulate her.

She's a role model simply by being in the spot light, and yeah she can act however she wants but that reflects on who she is as a person if she doesn't care that she's influencing these kids negatively. Her music is mostly appropriate for teens to listen to, the way she acts in public not so appropriate.

I'm gonna have to say I sit on the fence when it comes to kesha. I like a few of her songs but I think the way she presents herself is too fake. I don't feel like she's a believable person. And I consider herself at the lower end of the Spectrum when I think of all the other far better female singers out there, that haven't had to resort to some outlandish look/behaviour just to sell records.

If a teenager can be so easily influenced then it's because their parents didn't instill within them a strong enough sense of self.

A parent can do everything right but kids are people. They're born a certain way. Some people are shy, not because of anything their parents did to them. Some people are loud and obnoxious. When I was five I told my mom if she turned the television off I would scream until the cops came. She turned it off and I did. The cops told her she should have hit me. What could my mom have done different? Let a five year old tell her what to do? Or hit me? Neither sound like good choices lol. Yes parents have the responsibility of teaching their kids right from wrong, sheltering them to an extent from harmful influences, but in the end they are people and who they are can't always be controlled by how they are raised. Someone could have the perfect childhood and grow up to be a serial killer.

It's not Kesha's fault if a kid listens to her and decides to act the way she does, but like I said it reflects badly on Kesha if she acts that way knowing she's a role model to these kids. It's not her fault but it is her influence. I think if you choose to be in the spotlight, which by being an actor or performer you are choosing, you're also choosing to be a role model. And I'm sorry but in public you should know how to conduct yourself.

Yes, because you have TONS of parenting experience, don't you?

My parents weren't bad parents. I had a curfew, I had chores, and I was not allowed to watch or listen to anything that was utter garbage (in the opinion of my parents). Did that stop me from doing it? Sure didn't. Was it my parents' fault? Hell no. I wasn't allowed to watch Buffy when it was on the air because my mom claimed it was "evil". Did that stop me from sneaking in a few episodes, or watching it at a friend's house? Hell no. That wasn't bad parenting, that was me being a teenager and disobeying my parents. It's normal to do those kinds of things as a teenager. You should know, you are just BARELY out of your teens.

Ke$ha knows that she is a "role model" for young, impressionable girls.Maybe she should take that into consideration before she becomes another Lindsey Lohan.

Completely agree with this. It's like when people blame the parents for someone becoming a killer, it's ridiculous.

Except Ke$ha shouldn't be a role model for these children SHE IS IN HER 20'S FOR GODS sake and why would you ever compare Ke$ha to Lohan?

Ke$ha from what I've heard and saw doesn't buy drugs or stolen a necklace she could have paid for with her money that she has in her bank & purse. Ke$ha's music is for TEENAGERS (17+) and College kids and adults. Kids underneath the age 16 + shouldn't be listening to Ke$ha PERIOD. So to say how kids' behavior will turn out in the future cause of Ke$ha is complete and pure bull crap imo.

Calm down.
I totally was not expecting this when I opened this thread.

When Ke$ha first came out, I really disliked her, but over the past few months, I've grown to enjoy her music. The auto tune doesn't bother me anymore because it's just the style of her songs. The lyrics aren't "deep" they're just meant to be fun nonsense.

As for this role model insanity, I'm having a hard time figuring out how anyone would be worried their kids might look up to Ke$ha as one. I was under the impression that not every pop musician should have to worry about the supposed influence their music has on a teen. Maybe this whole role model thing is just strange to me because growing up, I never had a musician/actor/anything that I looked up to or emulated. I think a big part of that had to do with the way I was raised. I may like a musician, but jesus, they're just a person. They are an individual, and I so am I.

So yeah, I do have a problem with the whole "it's not the parent's fault" argument. First of all, regardless of whether or not it's a parent's fault for how their child ended up, if they love that child, they're still going to feel some kind of guilt if their kid ended up being what they consider "trashy" or "messed up."

Secondly, I would say that if your kid feels like they have to drink or snort glitter because of some pop star on the television or internet, you sit them down and them that they don't have to wake up in some stranger's bath tub in order to be special or to be cool...

...save that s**t for college.

Any teenager who allows themselves to be influenced in a bad way, is bad. It's true, teens do whatever the hell they want, so, it's not Kiesha's fault now is it, if a bunch of idiotic children are influenced? For instance, I watched horror movies when I was a child, guess what that didn't do? It DIDN'T make me into a psychopath. In fact, I find the taking of a life to be even more dispacable and disgusting of an act than I did as child. Kids aren't influenced by outside influences. They are influenced by their own lives. If someone acts out, it's not Keisha's responsibility. It's their own.

Um, slow your roll. For one thing, stop attacking her opinion and calling it 'bullcrap'; she never compared Ke$ha to Lindsay Lohan. If you would actually read the post with an open mind instead of a defensive one, you'd see that she said that Ke$ha should take her actions into more consideration before she ends up like her.

The problem with the defense that Ke$ha's music is "for teenagers" or people in their 20'a is this: they put Ke$ha on shows that are for preteens, like "Victorious" (just saw her on the ep yesterday), so then preteens think "Wow she's so cool! Tori likes her, so I should like her too!" I have a preteen, so I know how their minds work. I've had to sit her down and explain to her that I don't want her singing Ke$ha's music because the words are about stuff she shouldn't know anything about. My 9 year old shouldn't be singing songs about going to the club or getting drunk, but she wants to like Ke$ha and be like her 'cause she loves the show "Victorious" and that show made Ke$ha out to be the coolest thing since sliced bread. Do you see the problem??

Also, this is a warning for everyone: if you cannot discuss the matter civilly without attacking or people's opinions, I will close this thread.

But your daughter's not going out and boozing it up around town though. She's not seeking out drugs and it sounds like she wont be doing any of that ever because I know you're a good mom. Doesn't her making good decisions now and in the future have more to do with everything you have taught her as opposed to her not knowing what Ke$ha's singing about?

I may be a good mom (thanks, btw), but I won't always be around to guide her in the right direction. This is where what castnoshadow and EvilWillow said is so important and true: you can be the best parent in the world, but when you have a celebrity thrown at your kid everywhere from the radio to TV, they're bound to be influenced by them in some way. Just because you teach your kids right and wrong doesn't mean they're always going to do what you want them to do. It does not come down to "bad parenting" as some have said, and it doesn't come down to "idiot children" either. When a kid looks up to someone they see as cool, they're bound to emulate them in some way. And this is one of my biggest problems with Ke$ha, because she does not present herself in a way that I'd want any child emulating, including my own.

Wrong again, sweetie. Guess what age group watches MTV or any other music video channel? Anyone from the age of 12 and up. When it comes down to it,there IS NO control on who does and does not listen to the music (Except for personal dignity and intelligence). Kids are going to listen to what is popular, no matter what the intended age group is.

I find it comical that the age groups that you claim her music to be intended for keeps changing. But for the record, a 17 year old should not be "brushing their teeth with a bottle of Jack" and staying out all night. And that is the message that is being sent to the age group you claim the music is for, and all who listen to it.

She sends the message the it's okay to party and drink when you are not old enough. If she is singing about it, then that tells me she is doing it, hence the reason I said she should take her actions into consideration before she ends up like Lindsey. There were many other actresses or singers to chose from, she just stuck out the most. So to say she hasn't done the specific things that Lindsey has done is true, but irrelevant and redundant.

Well, I like her. I think her music is catchy and I kinda dig the brazen attitude.... I actually think it's possible to walk the line....I listen to her music with my kids, we dance, we laugh.... and I also talk to them seriously about self respect and tuning into their own power of choice when it comes to boundaries and sexual relationships...

You are right that parents should be talking to their children about partying. But how many children actually listen to their parents? Peer pressure and the media has a much bigger hold on today's youth. It's apparent here because you are so vehemently defending a person you don't even know, and at the end of the day probably wouldn't pee on you if you were on fire.

I never said it is not okay for an adult to party. But when you are under the public eye, and you are a role model to young girls, WHETHER YOU WANT TO BE OR NOT, you have to make your life choices very carefully. Unless you don't care what effect you have on the youth of the world. I suspect it doesn't make sense to you because you are still very young .

Listen, I don't know about anybody else, but I was never the one to be easily influenced. I was singing Next's "Too Close" at age 8. And that's the fricking BONER SONG! LOL I think it's alot more to this whole discussion then just bad parenting skills. I hardly got raised at all. I raised myself. And all those celebrities I saw on TV and the music videos, I hardly tried to emulate them. But then again, some kids don't have that kind of will power to go, "Oh, Kesha's talking about sex and drugs, I think that's wrong so I won't do that." It's all very complicated and the factors are endless, like the environment you're raised in. But you as a parent can only do so much, like people have said.

HisMrs is right everyones getting a little to emotional over the issue. I wont speak for everyone but I'm not trying to attack Kesha and I'm definitely not attacking her fans. So there isn't need for people to be getting offended or feeling the need to get defensive.

I dont think you can that just because you would never be influenced by Kesha that other kids wont be. There are people who are more easily influenced whether you want to believe that or not.

And to say Kesha is not a role model just isn't true. Is she a good role model I think the point is that shes not but there are kids who see her as one. In fact I have a very good friend who is only 15 and adores Kesha. She IS his role model. And I worry about him. He's been listening to Kesha since he was 13 and guess what he does go out and drink and have sex and do things that a 15 year old shouldnt be doing. Is that her fault? No. Do I think her music influenced him? yes. I dont mean shes just an artist he likes but he feels a connection to her and to her songs.

If something goes wrong with a kid its so easy to blame bad parenting, but I believe in both Nature and Nurture. Parents could do everything right and still there kids is messed up, or a parent can do everything wrong and the kid could go on to do great things. You can't blame everything on bad parenting. And I'm sorry but especially if you aren't a parent yourself.
