Kendra?

The fact that in "Conversations With Dead People" the First appears to Willow not as Tara, but as Cassie bringing messages from Tara, strongly supports the idea that it couldn't take Tara's form.

Seems like there must be a fanfic in there somewhere explaining why the First couldn't do it... and what might have happened when it tried.

Its never really explained, but I like to believe its based on the fact that Tara is a pure soul, a beacon of absolute good.

If this is true, is it any wonder that she didn't last very long on the show? No wonder I found her boring at times.

Tara being the epitome of goodness has nothing to do with this. Amber Benson refused to appear as the First Evil, claiming it was a stain on Tara's character. Frankly, I think she made a mistake.

Not only would it have been amazing, but it totally could have played into something about Buffy's failure's, since she kind of takes Kendra's death as her fault.

She should assumed some blame. She assumed that the Scoobies could effectively help Kendra. Drusilla proved her wrong.

I liked Tara alright, but she was a little boring... I agree fully with your other two points!

I thought that it was just the opposite. Kendra was left there to protect the Scoobies, and she was doing a pretty good job of it until she ran out of weapons.

We know the real reason is, thats not at Andrew was asking.

Yeah, but your answer makes no sense:
HOLLAND MANORS: "You see, if there wasn't evil in every single one of them out there why, they wouldn't be people. - They'd all be angels."

Sorry I didn't see your question Andrew. I'd say the only explanation I can think of is that Tara's now working on some higher plane as a force of good (like Cordy is), and while she didn't have enough mojo to combat the first or even to manifest, she had just enough to keep the First from using her form to harm her beloved friends.

I think that would fit in nicely with what we know of dead good guys with some mojo. Tara not having sufficient power to manifest herself would fit in with Cordy saying it took her several months to gather enough energy to manifest for a few minutes, it would make sense that Tara couldn't especially with the First pushing against her. But given Tara's goodness and level of skill maybe she exerted all her otherworldly powers to keep the First from torturing her loved one with her form.

She lasted 2 and a half years, which is pretty decent run.
She was involved in a very interesting storyline that lasted the entire length of her stay.
She bored you at times, big deal. I can list every episode that every other characters has bored me at some point, and generally not just one.
Being inherently good isn't a bad thing.

Which has already been discussed ad nauseum why Amber Benson wasn't in the show BU IF Buffy was reality then there would be no reason on the surface why Tara couldn't have been used, hence the 'fanwank'.

I actually love that Amber didn't want to do it because it made a far more interesting take on the situation.

While your theory is somewhat interesting your reason to dismiss mine is, quite frankly, poor.

Because Holland Manners said so!

Holland Manners was possibly using hyperbole to get that message across to Angel.

Also within humanity there are 'rules' and there are always exceptions.

There isn't any evidence that Tara isn't an exception - just like there isn't any proof that what Holland Manners said was pure 100% fact.

They missed a few marks with the first.

There were so many apparations they could have had the first take on. Angelus, whom I've always considered Buffy's worst nightmare, could have returned. Her MUM as an evil antagonizer would have been awesome.

Her cousin Celia? that would have been lots of fun. TARA! where the F*** was she?! I really wanted her back, too see Ambers face 🙂

And Willow would have gone bananas, and it would have created friction between Kennedy and Willow. Day-UM! why couldn't we all script the Season 7 plot? lol

HELL YES! I would have loved to see Joyce!First (and not just "probably First"-Joyce, as in CWDP 😉 ) mess with "her daughters'" minds.
But then again, I always thought even normal Joyce was evil. *ducks away from our Joyce*

Fun?? Handled correctly that would have been utter horror. There's a reason evil/ghostly/undead kids are so popular in movies. :aah:
Problem would have been, of course, there's now way they could have used the same actress as in KBD. Four (or was it even five?) years of age difference would have nixed that... and another girl playing the role would have made it pretty pointless to bring the character back.

I agree but Joss said he actively tried to make S7 less dark than S8, Buffy dead relatives torturing her would have been way scarier than three nerds messing with Buffy.

Also the expense of bringing all of those actors in...

Whaaaa? That's disturbing and I really wouldn't have like to have seen Joyce messing with the girl's minds. I mean, I can see where you derive the potential awesomeness (someone close "turning" in the end) from it.. but we honestly had already seen it with Willow. And Buffy's mother was very special to her, that hits home in a very wrong way and it would have tarnished her memory.. severely. And not only Buffy's memory of her, but how everyone else remembered her as well. Even if it was the First in disguise.

As for Kendra? I mean, it would have been neat. But she wasn't on Buffy long enough for everyone to really remember, and connect with her character and the significance behind the appearance. Adding that it wouldn't really be Kendra, and that's what always made the First less baddy to me.. 😛
