@hoponlilmama I did suggest Etsy to her, but I think she is reluctant to do online sales.

Perhaps she's concerned of investing time and not making many sales? Or maybe set up a stall at a local market? Could be a good starting point and a way to gauge if there's any interest.

I think she is just reluctant to do anything along those lines. Or perhaps it would remove some of the enjoyment?

Well, if you don't count time as an investment, they can make money!

It is possible to make money from at least some crafts - I go to rather a lot of craft fairs! - but it probably depends on the craft and, unless you are retired, you do need to treat it like a business. Which can also remove an element of the enjoyment from it.

I think the days of making money from crafts are coming to an end. When you have temu etc making it for cheap, plus time and materials are expensive. People don't want to pay £5+ for a dishcloth.

I finished embroidering a bookmark! It was an easy one; all cross stitch from a kit that included everything and even had a printed design on the fabric.

Now I need to make it into an actual bookmark, and the design needs washing off the fabric first.

Also, I have managed to make an unbelievable mess of the floss, which now needs sorting out.

One making money on crafts, here at least it is quite regulated. Like you are not allowed to sell items for commercial reasons if the pattern is not your own. Then you cross into copyright infringement. And if you buy fabric with patented prints (like Disney etc) you're not allowed to sell them, you have to give them as gifts, you can't make money off it.

You may sell an item second-hand if you made it for yourself but found no use for it/want to rid yourself of it.

So, there really isn't much chance here to make much money off crafts. Unless you become a pattern creator.

I am trying to make some hanging shelves. I used three balls of yarn and its no where near big enough. I am not sure this is going to work but I dont have draws for my winter clothes and they are currently in cardboard boxes so I thought it might be worth trying.

One of my neighbours just made me a BEAUTIFUL quilt! I cant believe how fast she made it and how good it is. Its such beautiful quality. I cant use sewing machines anymore because they vibrate my brain too much, so I really appreciate this very pretty pink quilt 😀

I think most countries have regulations about making money from other people's IPs, though yours may be a bit stricter (not actually sure what our laws are on selling hand crafted things made using other people's patterns); this doesn't appear to stop people selling IP-infringing things on Etsy, though! Or at craft fairs, thinking about it.

I am making a frankenflower. My hook is too small and Im using yarn from 4 year old bed socks that started as something else before they were socks.

The yarn is sorted out and I have started on a second bookmark. Before doing the final things needed to make the first one into an actual functioning bookmark. Perhaps buying a kit of six was not the best idea.

I just bought a Pride and Prejudice cross stitch of Etsy that is probably too advanced for me… but still also got all the materials and frames! Lol. We’ll see if this is the summer when I properly learn to cross stitch

@Taake I bought a pack of six dragon bookmarks from Amazon, with patterns, pre-printed designs on six pieces of embroidery fabric as well as the designs themselves on paper, which means you can use them afterwards still, floss, scissors and needles to make them. I also have an Etsy kit that has everything you need, but is stitch counting rather than printed design, then finally just a design itself.

Yes, that will leave me with eight bookmarks! But I, sooner or later, end up leaving a bookmark in a book, and I'm usually reading several different ones at the same time.

Poodle has out grown a lot of her jumpers. Some have been washed threadbare. I think its time to crochet her a new one. I used to be worried that they would be too warm for her, but she prefers a short clip and jumper on rather than long hair in the winter. The other dog is the opposite, she hates a short clip and loves her hair long. I know I have pink and grey yarn, but she looks cutest in red or purple.

I can stitch count, or at least I could, but starting again with stitch counting as the first thing seemed a bad idea!
