Tranquility mentioned something in the Episode 3 thread I thought was so inspired it needed its own thread.

In ep 3 Buffy is awakened from a sleeping spell by a kiss from someone who loves her. We don't know who planted the kiss.

When Buffy first awakes she says "I have a funny feeling in my mouth", and then "CINNAMON BUNS!" written in capitals in emboldened text, just like that.

Ok, so Tranquility pointed to this quote from a conversation between Lorne and Angel in Waiting in the Wings.

Lorne: "Can't fight Kyrumption, cinnamon buns. It's fate. It's the stars. Kyrumption is..."

For those who forget what Kyrumption is, it's a Pylean term meaning when "two great heroes come together". It's originally mentioned in relation to Angel and Cordelia.

This all points towards Angel being the one who planted the kiss. We never did find out who belonged to the floating feet from ep 1 which were landing on the castle in Scotland.

Here's the only problem with the theory though. Willow suggests the one who will kiss Buffy is is in the room. As far as anybody knows Angel is not.

So, I don't know...invisible?

BTW, before someone mentions it, Dark Horse editor Scott Allie says they can use Angel in Buffy Season 8. IDW does not own the exclusive rights to use the character in their comic series.

ow i love the Angel theory
I mean since the person is in the room, maybe it's Xander or perhaps its one of the slayers lol. I doubt Buffy is a lesbian, but it didnt' say that Buffy loved the person just that that person loved Buffy.

There's some other stuff that makes the quote from Waiting in the Wings a good possibility for being significant.

The episode is written by Joss Whedon. Kyrumption, which means when two heroes come together is mentioned twice in the episode. Once by Lorne when he calls Angel cinnamon buns, and once by Fred.

FRED: Kye-rumption. It's the one nice word I remember from the Pylean hell dimension.

ANGEL: What's it mean?

FRED: It's when two great heroes meet on the field of battle and recognize their mutual fate.

I just can't figure out how Angel could be invisible, if it turns out the quote points to him as the kisser. Then again this could be a red herring for people like me and Tranquility who look for obscure stuff.

Did Willow suggest the person who kissed Buffy is in the room or was in the room?

Angel can be stealthy, so maybe he snuck out?

I doubt Angel could just walk into the castle without being detected. I would imagine the castle would have some sort of security system, kind of like what Wolfram & Heart had.

What was the story with those feet landing on the castle in Issue # 1 then?

Couldn't be Amy. The jacket's wrong. Although it's worth noting Amy gets in, and isn't discovered until she hit's Buffy's bedroom. Buffy sleeps with mystical protection according to Xander. The Scottish Zombies appear to breach the outer wall before they're discovered, and that discovery was made by Renee who was standing guard. Xander says she, "raised the call".

Ethan's jacket is also the wrong color for the floating feet guy, and anyway there's no evidence he's there in person.

Oh, and this is what Willow says...

Buffy needs to be kissed by someone who's in love with her.

And Someone in this room is.

They might not even have realized it. And they probably don't want anyone to know about it. So everybody's gonna shut their eyes -- and keep em shut -- and that person will step forward and give Buffy a kiss.

Actually now that I read that again, there could be another person in the room, just hiding. He doesn't have to be invisible. Everybody closes their eyes.

Here's the way the rules of the actual spell are explained to Xander by Amy.

Amy:
Any of you pros notice she's still asleep?
She's living a nightmare genius, and the only thing that can wake her up...is the kiss of true love.

Xander:
Seriously?

So this doesn't have to be someone she's in love with.

Amy:
No. I said just someone truly in love with her.

Xander:
But not friend love.

Amy:
Right. Someone who wants to kiss her, like they're passionate about her.

Xander:
And not a sister

Amy:
Well, a twisted sister.

Xander:
Ha! But no, I hate you.

Maybe Willow glamoured herself as Angel or channeled him in some way. I can't see Angel actually being there, though it would make my friggin' day if the kiss of true love was him. I just don't see how he could've been in and out without being detected.

Well, someone landed on the castle undetected in issue # 1. If it wasn't Angel, who was it?

anyone thought of the fact that is LORNE who mentioned both of those things? the Cinnamon Buns came from him, and so did the Kyrumption.

ok, so that would be hilarious, and even more unlikely, but i just thought i'd mention it.

i really don't want it to be Angel...i'm not gonna stop reading if it is him, but i'd be majorly disappointed if it was.

there's only one more issue of this arc, i'm just wondering if they're gonna get everything tied up in time.

I hadn't even connected the 'kisser' with the 'floating feet'. well, i'd pretty much forgotten about 'floating feet' until now. I agree with all who think they are connected. it certainly seems that there is/was someone else at the castle that not eveyone knew about...except Willow (maybe that's part of the reason she's so vague about her previous where-abouts). Going back to 'floating feet' in #1, my first instinct was Yay Spike! but maybe it was actually cinnamon buns, um, i mean Angel.

I agree with Lyri - i don't really want it to be Angel either. I was kind of hoping it would be Spike and i have to admit i'm still hanging on to hope. I'm still suspicious as to why Ethan would say so many 'spike' words and why spike is not in the memory blocks and why Ethan's body language is also kind of spike-ish. it is odd that Buffy would say 'cinnamon buns' when there is also this somewhat obscure connection to Angel. we do seem to be getting a lot of 'prompts' about the two vampires. I think there is more to be revealed on this, I don't think the boys are out of the story just yet.

ooo. as someone mentioned its still all shadowy about willows whereabouts beforehand. maybe it has to do with the alley incident at angel season 5. maybe shes gatered angel (and spike) to the castle for some reason and made them invisible! to protect them? maybe she brought riley to.....and thats what the three x's in the dream meant...buffys 3 ex's......and yeh i'm overtired and my post is pretty much crapsome. sorry! just typed my thoughts (my confusing irrelevent tired man thoughts lol)

3 ex's. That's the most fun one I've heard so far.

i love the 3 ex's idea too, that would be grand!
Interesting theories. It would also make my day if it was Angel doing the smooching, but I'm not sure it was because of how Willow says 'They might not even have realized it. And they probably don't want anyone to know about it.' I didn't think Angel ever doubted he was still in love with Buffy... I don't think? If it was somehow Spike, I wouldn't be dissapointed, just not elated 😛
It's more interesting to me if it's Xander or Willow though. Cinnamon buns! might have just been a fluke.. maybe Joss likes cinnamon buns? lol But you never know, it's been a long while since Buffy season seven, Joss could have been thinking about this more deeply then usual.
And by the way I'm still not sure how Willow knows that someone in the room is in love with her if it's not Willow.. unless she sees Angel, (or Spike) which would be a given.

all that stuff Willow says might be said just to give everyone a reason to shut their eyes so that the real 'kisser' can emerge in safety.

That's what I think.
anyone thought of the fact that it is LORNE?

How about something like this...they suspect someone of being an inside man. They need someone to do a reading. Giles knows of this demon who does readings. Lorne appears through the front door. He discovers Angle lurking around in there. He says something to him like "It's Kyrumption all over again, isn't it, Cinnamon Buns?"

All the discerning readers rush to google for a search on Kyrumption, then go, "Ah Ha!"
