Wait a sec. Did they actually say that Locke had to die in order to leave the island? I don't recall that bit. I do know they said he had to die in order to bring them (Oceanic Six) back. He himself said he was willing to die in order to do it. He did die, which is what brought Ben and Jack together and started this whole thing. Also, if he died on the island, why would he be able to die off the island? Charlie shows up, but just as ghost thing that appears to Hurley. 😛

But locke can only appear to them if dead. and he appeared to jack. we know this. all the characters who have died have appeared to speak to others, Charlie, Ana Lucia, etc.

Yeah, but there was the newspaper clipping about Locke's death, and his body, which was freshly deceased. So he was clearly alive when he spoke with them.
I found the Latin bit to be fascinating, and rather amusing. However, I'm thinking that it's going to play an important role, as every little thing seems to be important in this. Not sure what it is yet.

Might tie in with the 4 toed statue and how old the island is?

I'm not happy with Sun at all. It'll be interesting to see how things play out next week.
QUOTE]

Sun is Widmore's pawn. Remember Ben telling him that he changed the game and now he is going to kill Penny because Widmore's mercenaries killed his daughter. So Widmore can't kill Ben (a rule yet to be explained why) but nothing says someone else can't kill Ben.
Plus remember when Des walked into his office and Widmore was practically begging to know about Penny? So Widmore's only concern now it seems is to protect his daughter.

and being that his daughter is about to end up in L.A. where Ben is... that isn't very good...

also, was Alex really his biological daughter? i mean, we saw Danielle ARRIVE pregnant on the island.

True, good point teentitan. This is bound to be very... not good. 😉 Especially because I imagine that Des and Penny are coming via boat, and well, they're at the harbour, so... Except nvm, the boat couldn't have gotten there fast enough. 😛 Regardless, things are very much coming to a head. 😉

Little Miss, no Alex is not biologically related to Ben. However since he took her when she was a baby, she grew up thinking he was her father, and he spent her entire life viewing her as his daughter.

And to whomever said JJ Abrams wasn't involved anymore... he's still listed as Creator, Producer and Writer, so unless something changed today, he's still involved. Star Trek didn't change that. 😉

I think what Little Miss is suggesting is that Ben might be the father because Danielle was pregnant as she arrived and we don't know who the father actually is.

I don't know if I believe that but this is a show where there is time travel and an entire Island was moved, so Ben and Danielle having sex 16 years ago isn't a huge leap!

Well, we do know you cannot give birth on the island if the baby was conceived there. And Ben first came to the island as a child. Granted, he's been able to leave because they had a submarine but up until the island was moved, we really didn't see Ben choosing to leave the island. Everytime the others wanted to speak to someone in the States, a lackey was sent. This doesn't prove Ben isn't the biological father, but it would mean he would have had to have left and met Danielle somewhere in France (and at the time, I believe she said she was married). Afterward, Danielle's team wrecked and ended up on the island. This is a pretty huge coincidence even for LOST but I suppose its still possible. But then there's the fact that when she first caught Ben in one of her traps in season two, she didn't beat him and ask, "where's our daughter?" or anything. She went and got Sayid. She was convinced Ben was an other, but did not seem to know him personally.

Good point! End of Ben being biological father discussion.

Just because he hadn't, probably, left the Island before Danielle arrived doesn't mean he didn't leave later - again, Time Travel.

Also, you want to talk coincidence, lets talk about Jack talking to a guy he meets in a stadium and then that guy being in the Hatch.

Or Jack having a sister on another continent that gets on the same plane as him.

I think arguing something is improbable based on it being a 'huge coincidence' on this show is a defuncked argument.

As for Danielle not recognising Ben, well we have seen more than enough to easily argue away that one.

NOW, I'm still not convinced that Ben is the real daddy, but none of the arguments above are even close to being strong enough to discount the possibility.

Such as?

The time travel explanation is weak, as all of the actual time jumps have taken place on the island (with the exception of Desmond's consciousness but he's supposed to be special) and Danielle could not have gotten pregnant on the island. Danielle even says that her child was taken from her and even attempts to trade Claire's child in return for getting her own back, something Ben certainly wouldn't have considered in a million years if Alex was his biological daughter.

JJ Abrams helped plot out the show. He is NOT involved creatively anymore. He hasn't done anything since directing the premiere of the third season. He doesn't sit in with the writers' discussions, he doesn't write anything. Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof are the showrunners. Pretty much everything is their decision, not JJ's.

You kidding me, with everything you have seen you need me to paint a pretty little picture for you?

OK, well mind wipe is a possibility.
We have no idea what these guys can do, being secretive, but in the real world certain drugs can be used to induce memory loss - and this is real world stuff, not something on a show that deals with Time Travel and a Black Smoke monster!

We know that there is a time differential between the Island and the outside world.

Add to that we don't have much information on the Islands jumps. What if it can jump out of time too.

Did Ben actually trade Aaron for Alex?
If the answer to that is 'no' then your entire Ben argument is pointless because we have been told MANY times that Ben always has a plan.

Actually, i was saying that no, Alex is NOT Ben's real daughter. Which would make him understand Kate's situation better than anyone, i would think.

Its a good job I have been saying all along then that I don't think he is - I've just been showing along the way how its not impossible in the show.

But Ben is an interesting chap, he really seems to care about those that he looks over and the Island, but everyone one else, he couldn't give a ice cube in hells thought to, so honestly I don't think he would care but at all about Kates feelings.

I think the reason babies are not born on the island is that the island is basically a living entity. That said if Charlotte was born on the island why did she leave? So I think the island will not allow another baby born on the island until Charlotte returns because the island lost a child. And I would guess it was a forced removal and that's why the island is pissed. I also think Myles was also born on the island as the start of this season showed an Asian infant.
And I have to agree with the consensus here that Ben is not even close to Alex's biological father. Drug, mind wiping, date rape theories a pregnant Rousseau landing on the island was a fluke and Ben jumped at the chance to have someone to pass the mantle of the island too. Also my island theory of no child bearing would coincide because Charlotte looks to be a good minimum 10 years older then Alex.

BUMP.

Well, the end of last night's episode probably came as a surprise to no one (Ms. Hawking being Daniel's mother, something people have been saying for weeks, but especially since Desmond was told she had left Oxford to go to LA). This episode was pretty decent, better than last weeks but I really wish they'd have ceased the time jumping for a little while. We didn't get to see near enough of young Danielle and her group as I'd have liked.

As for the off-island plot, Ben has Jack and Sun with him and ready to return to the island. But it's pretty apparent they all have to return (not just because they've said on the show they all need to go back but because for creative reasons), so how do you get the remaining members of the Oceanic 6 to return at this point? Kate and Sayid still want nothing to do with this, and Hurley is locked away. Desmond is with Ben and the others, but I imagine he'll need some persuading as well.

*grins* And we see proof that Ben isn't the father. 😉 Hehe. 😀

I'm very happy that my theory about Eloise was correct.

In other news... Hurley was getting released early in the morning, if you recall the comment the lawyer made to Ben... Not sure, though, how they'll convince everyone else.

The only things that I really... hold issue with... would be Sun going and leaving her daughter, and Desmond going and leaving Penny and Charlie... 😛

Also, does this mean that Locke is done? Or will be, soon? Seeing as he's dead there off the island... or will he be a ghost, or come back to life on the Island...? *wonders*

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that Sun/Jin's baby will be going back to the island. Afterall 'everyone' has to go back to the island and I'm guessing the twist will be even the yet to be born ones as well.
