I agree.This episode was all Spike.From his speech to Angel and Buffy in the Magic Shop (which is probably my all time favorite Spike moment,and probably my all time favorite Spike quote:"I may be love's bitch,but at least I'm man enough to admit it.") to him tearing out of Sunnydale singing at the top of his lungs. You just knew he was a new vampire and would be back for more.Spike is without a doubt my favorite character of the whole series.
 
This is probably my favorite episode of the great Season 3. Spike/James Marsters was easily the star of this episode and proved he should be part of the regular cast. I love how we get to see Buffy, Angel and Spike all work together in action for probably the only time. This episode was very funny and deserves a 5/5.

The only thing I hate about this episode is Cordelia getting Hurt and it marks the end of the Cordelia/Xander relationship.
 
I just love the whole Spike and Joyce dynamic in this ep, they are so funny together, especially love when Angel appears and Spike is behind Joyce pretending to bite her :: vampire
 
I liked this episode especially Spike's speech about Buffy and Angel...yes they can't be friends...they can only be lovers...they are soulmates!
I really respected Spike when he said"I may be love's bitch but at least i am man enough to admit it"!
The wasy Spike misses Dru is both sweet and hilarious...i never thought i would see Spike like that!Again i think,which is my personal opinion, that there can be no love between 2 vampires(i mean real love,unconditional,sacrifice and all that) there can be an obsession,lust,passion but i really think Spike had that special relationship with Drusilla and i liked the way he was protective of her back in season 2!
 
I love the episode, with Spike coming in to stir things up was a nice breath of fresh air. Plus he did have this line or I guess I should say lines.

"You're not friends. You'll never be friends. You'll be in love till it kills you both. You'll fight, and you'll shag, and you'll hate each other until it makes you quiver, but you'll never be friends. Love isn't brains, children, it's blood -- blood screaming inside you to work its will. I may be love's bitch, but at least I'm man enough to admit it"

But I love the quote and plus the interaction between Spike and Joyce is priceless!
 
It's the only episode when we saw our three heroes fight together on the same side.

Spike is back in town and emotional hell follows with him for the rest of the cast! I think it's at this point that Buffy really stops being about the demon of the week and starts being about the relationships.

The Bad;

Character death;
Bye bye to another magic shop owner. Spike's killing her is horrible in the extreme, the sheer brutality of it. The scene where Spike threatens to push a broken bottle in Willow's face is also horrible (pay attention Spike fans!). I remember watching this ep for the first time and thinking "NO! They can't kill Cordy!" but eventually they do. Presumably the funeral we see is of the Magic Shop owner?

Women good/men bad; Joyce wants Buffy to go to parties with kegs and boys, as it happens neither will work out well for her.

Kinky dinky; Willow thinks bowling and rented shoes are sexy which is a whole level of kink beyond my ken, my barbie and all my action figures. Spike also seems to be quite enamoured of Willow (Spillow?) which will be referred to again in season 4. He also talks of 'having a woman' which implies that a vamp feeding is akin to a sexual act. Spike says he's going to torture Dru until she loves him again.?

Calling Captain Subtext; How much do we adore the scene between Spike and Joyce? Of course when we see Spike's relationship with his own mum, we understand why. Spike also refers to Angel as 'peaches' and a 'great poof' which must have had Spangel fans working overtime. Buffy comments that for some reason she can't fool Spike hinting at their relationship to come and possibly Spikes hidden sensitivity (realising in season 4 that Willow is falling apart, empathising with Dawn in season 5). Plus Dru senses that Spike is infatuated with the Slayer.

Buffy and Angel beat up and threaten to kill Spike for info

Questions and observations;
Willow refers to Cletus the slack jawed yokel from the Simpsons. Weirdly Buffy has never even been referenced on that show as far as I know? Xander refers to Buffy and him working at the drive-in, both will but not at the same time. Surely the Mayor wouldn't have let Spike and co run rampant last year and destroyed the world? Xander recognises the ingredients for a love spell from his experience in BBB. Note Xander refers to wanting to be a fireman which will also feature in The Replacement. Weirdly Buffy says that Spike's not known for keeping his word but to judge by 'Lie to Me' and 'Becoming' he actually does? Note that even Angel with a soul still knows how to push Spike's buttons? Cordy's expression upon seeing Xander and Willow together is just heartrending.
Buffy scores remarkably well on the SATs once again showing us there's brains behind that blonde hair. Love Cordy's bizarre leap of logic that Xander has been kidnapped by Columbian drug barons?
Really you get the idea that they're toying with the idea of Spike as a regular character and this was a test for it. Of course he fit the bill and the rest is history

10/10 no question
 
I don't remember Angel touching Spike in this episode, only Buffy pining him in the kitchen!

When Buffy has him pinned, Spike raised his hand to hit Buffy and Anbgel stops him and smashes him back down on to the table. I think that's the only time...I watched it the other day.

I agree about some of Spike's more brutal moments in this ep. I hated him for a second when he was threatening Willow, she was so scared it was horrible. Good observation on who's the funeral is. I always thought it was totally random and just there to make you think it was Cordy, but nope: magic shop owner!

I think Willow was more scared in Intervention, when she was 'saved' only by Spike's chip. In here she really is brave, she talks him out (there will be no threatening, no bottle in the face, something like that)
 
Another awesome episode! Spike and Joyce chat, neat =P There was always something between those two. You could see from the start that Spike was different around Joyce... maybe she reminded him of his own mother?

Also the only time where we see Angel, Buffy and Spike fightning together =( They should have kicked those vampires butts much easier than that honestly!

As for Xander, Willow, Oz and Cordelia... I have to say I was kinda rooting for a Xander/Willow relationship from the start, but Oz was such a nice guy, he didn't deserve that. As for Cordy, I was shocked when she fell and we thought for a moment she was dead... but the whole 'HATE XANDER' after she saw him kiss Willow once... I don't know. She wasn't perfect, way from it, and putting so much on Xander afterwards, I never agreed with.

Nice scene with Spike at the end, showing there's at least one person who got out of the day happy and confident.
