For those who listen to pop music, who do you prefer in terms of talent?

Madonna

or Lady Gaga?

If I was judging them based on Madonna's work 15-20 years ago, she would have won hands down. However, the older she gets, the more her music sucks, so I voted for Lady Gaga.

I find Lady Gaga more interesting. She has completely changed the face of... I don't know if music, but she is something fresh and new that we haven't seen before, in my opinion. Look at the way she dresses. It's meant to attract attention, and it works! And her dancing, her voice, everything about her is so unique.

So even though Madonna is a very good musician who broke records in the music world, Lady Gaga did it bigger. Madonna is good for her time, and she's still alright. But these days we need something really fresh and unique. And that is Lady Gaga.

They're both great businesswomen. Gaga is more talented, musically. But they both know what the audience wants and how to deliver it to them; they're fantastic performers.

In terms of what I actually like to listen to, I think I have to go with the original lady M!

Madonna. Easy choice. If we're talking in general. If we go by their work in the last 3 years I'm with HisMrs.

My opinion however would probably be very different if I were less than 23 years old. Age play a big part. 80's music in general and Madonna and Michael Jackson is what I grew up with. Without the wonder that is the internet. Talk about being huge and influentual.

My thoughts exactly
I'm not a big fan of either, but I have more Madonna songs than Lady Gaga's (in fact, I don't have no Gaga at all) on my Ipod, so my choice is Madonna. Lady Gaga is not changing the face of music. IMO, she's a big attraction with her flamboyant outfits and her outspoken views on hot button issues. But if it wasn't for her blowing up with a big hit, her music sounds EXACTLY the same. Techno pop. She's supposed to blow up because of her music, not her meat outfit she wore. Was "Just Dance" really that groundbreaking and innovative? Sounds just like the standard pop song in the bland and unoriginal world of music today. I appreciate her gusto, and I agree with some of her viewpoints like on gay equality, so I respect her as a person. But as far as her music goes? A resounding "Naaaaaaa."

seriously. her music is just...ugh.
I went with Madonna in large part due to longevity and imagination. She has been a successful artist for a long time and never ceases to re-invent herself. Even if I'm not the biggest fan of her music that's something I can respect and appreciate. She turned herself into a pop-icon, that's pretty impressive 🙂

Madonna. I grew up dancing to her songs (probably a bit inappropriate when I was that young, but I didnt know lol). Her career has spanned over decades and while I am not such a fan of her music now, I have a huge amount of respect for someone who can keep entertaining for that many years. Although she doesnt have the most amazing voice in the world, she is a great entertainer. Im in awe that she has the body she does after all these years and she looks after her health.

Lady Gagas career is built on being a freak, I hate her voice and I do not like her music. Im glad the station I listen to never ever plays her so I am rarely subjected to that crap.

While I do like Gaga's music, I think she's just so fake. So I'd say Madonna mainly by default; she just seems more credible and less fake-y.

Interesting because Ladty Gaga's schtick is that people should be real
So talent wise was the original question. What kind of talent? For writing music? Getting attention? Manage to become the biggest star? I'm not sure if Madonna beat Laga in the music writing category but other than that I'd say her. If you look at both their careers. Gagas stardom may shine brighter at this moment but Madonnas have been shining for soon 30 years.

Our own taste will make one decision as to who we prefer but if you look at it beyond that, is there really a competition?

Many artists dress to attract attention. Madonna did it in the early 80´s and continued for decades. Metal artists did it in the 70's with devil worship, horror, raw meat eating and clothes. Kiss and make-up anyone? Punk. The list is very long. Gaga is just the newest in a long line and she won't be the last. She's simple the current big/popular attention artist. So to me that's nothing special. If she's still a big artist in 15 years I might start to change opinion. Once again, it's my opinion. You have yours.

So even though Madonna is a very good musician who broke records in the music world, Lady Gaga did it bigger. Madonna is good for her time, and she's still alright. But these days we need something really fresh and unique. And that is Lady Gaga.
How did Gaga make it bigger? Besides being more popular right now?

You know, you can explain your reasons, WITHOUT BASHING HER. She's NOT a FREAK. She's different, unique, unconvential, maybe even a little crazy. But she's brilliant enough to know how to work it to her advantage. And she does. So, don't throw around hurtful and disgustingly prejudice words about Mother Monster just because you can't BEGIN to comprehend her, her art, or her style. It's extremely pathetic and immature, and it upsets her children. And that's just not a very nice thing to do, is it?

How is Lady Gaga fake?

I prefer Madonna. I grew up with her and her songs have a place in the soundtrack of my childhood.

Gaga is new and shiny. We'll see where she goes in 20 years. I do enjoy running to some of her songs but don't listen to them otherwise.

Lady Gaga. I never grew up liking much of Madonna's music (I seemed to gravitate towards 90's rock) but I love Lady Gaga's music. It's more catchy and it's just all round fun to listen to. These days I feel like Madonna is just trying too hard to stay young and it's failing her.

In my opinion she is a freak, how she sings, dances and dresses is freaky to me. I cant think of a better word to discribe her than that. I dont think she is brilliant, I think she is lucky that she got famous in a time that being a freak makes you famous.
