And when she goes on about her 'little monsters'! wow, laaaaaaame.
Oh my God. She loves her fans and acknowledges them. How horrible.

Oh I'm sorry, you must have missed the "IMO" part. It's my opinion. That's the end of that.
Your opinion is your opinion. My comment was regarding the "No disrespect" thing, which felt insulting.

How did me saying "No disrespect" feel insulting to you? I actually meant what I said. The posting was how I felt, and I was saying no disrespect to the people who are fans of hers. Sorry if I offended you, which was never the intention.

Why does it even matter? Isn't this supposed to be a BUFFY board? LOL

Seriously, folks, let's not get bent out of shape if someone has a different opinion. As always, if you can't discuss the topic like adults, then the thread will be closed.

They're both great businesswomen. Gaga is more talented, musically. But they both know what the audience wants and how to deliver it to them; they're fantastic performers.

In terms of what I actually like to listen to, I think I have to go with the original lady M!

Couldn't agree more. Lady Gaga sort of disgusts me because she doesn't even use her talent. I watched her concert with my friend and her mom, and her mom was like, "Okay, Elton John dresses kind of strange...but he sits at the damn piano and sings." Lady Gaga was flailing around the entire time and it was just so stupid. She has a beautiful voice. I want to hear that. She tries way too hard and she just doesn't have to. Nothing about her says new or original...it just screams, "Look at me, look at me!!"

Madonna really isn't that great of a singer, she needs the theatrics...but I still prefer her early work to any of Lady Gaga's stuff. Madonna made the best of what talent she had, and in my opinion, Lady Gaga is just wasting it. Maybe her music is new and innovative compared to the rest of the Top 40 hits.

I chose Lady Gaga. I only like Madonna on her Ray of Light CD...and that is about it. Lady Gaga seems to be more proactive with her fame for social change. Madonna does as well, but not lately. I am kind of meh on both of them.

I refuse to vote. I guess I should start by sprouting all the normal stuff. IMHO. No offence.

Anyway - I think that both are crass, embarrassing and have taken advantage of a world full of people with zero taste. There is so much real talent out there that I find it offensive that these two hags gain notoriety and money.

I wish I could say I prefer Mad(tolikeher)onna, or Lady (makes me want to) Gag but I just can't.

If people want to like the music that is shoved down their throats because they 'choose to' then that's fine... I just choose not to.

Give me a You Am I or Gyroscope poll over this any day!

If I had to chose between Madonna and Lady Gaga I'd pick Porcelain Black!

It felt patronizing, that's all. Probably wasn't though.

I should say, that personally, that's why I love Lady Gaga. She doesn't just rely on her voice. She's not lazy. She's active and flamboyant. She's an entertainer. Her insane music videos are reason I fell madly in love with her.

I would like to remind everyone that it's possible to explain your choice/preference of artist without insulting the fans of the other artist. Even if you find them horrible others may not and it would be nice if your opinions could be expressed without hurting/insulting others.

thank you
🙂

Well it's less about the craziness. I'm a huge fan of all things weird, but her act comes off as...insanely phony. If her music was as weird as she dresses, then I'd not only find it genuine, I'd probably like her songs. She's kind of like a mainstream Bjork (who I love).

Yeah I think she comes across as too contrived at times

"She's kind of like a mainstream Bjork (who I love)" KARMAAA :D
I really loved Lady Gaga until she wore the meat dress. At that point I was like "Seriously?" I love her music, but I feel like she is just trying too hard to make headlines and seem "artistic". You can be artistic and make a statement without going to rediculous extremes.

God, it's stuff like that just makes me fall more in love with her.

I feel like you are trying to equate it to modern art movements. I sincerely hope that you are going to tell me I am wrong. Any sort of explanation as to why wearing raw meat as a dress makes you 'fall more in love with her'?

This is so unfair. Taste in music is subjective. I like some of Madonna's songs because her music reminds me of a simpler time. Does this mean that I have "zero taste"? No. Does every Lady Gaga (whose music I can't stand) fan have zero taste? No. Who determines what good music is? In my opinion, an artist or band is worth listening to when it's clear that passion and soul was put into their work. Some of Lady Gaga's songs aren't terrible (lyrically), but the way that they're produced is just, uch. Not my style. However, someone who enjoys that stuff can also love the Pixies or Cibo Matto, bands that fit into the "soul" category (in my opinion).

Lady Gaga and Madonna are entertainers. They are successful because they have branded themselves. I do find it unfair that (some) brilliant and talented singers don't get their chance to shine because they refuse to conform or "sell out", but unfortunately, that's just how the music industry works. I mean Madonna and Lady Gaga, as phony as they are, have worked hard to get where they are. They're fantastic business women. It sucks, but it's just the way that it is. I personally don't give a crap about any of that stuff, the Madonna songs that I like weren't "shoved down my throat". I like what I like, regardless of what is popular or what an artist's image "should be". Certain music draws me in, I can't control what grabs my attention. Also, I'm thankful for the music that I dislike, without it...I wouldn't be able to appreciate the songs, bands, artists, etc. that I love.

You have every right to like whatever you want. Just like I have every right to think that your taste is rubbish! Majority of people think my taste in music is rubbish. My honest opinion on the matter just happens to be that I think my taste is good and that yours isn't! My opinion. You don't have to agree!

I prefer Lady Gaga over Madonna. Unlike most, I don't think Lady Gaga is a complete gimmick. She was born and raised in the New York club scene... where different was "in." She embraced it. Before she went super popular she loved dressing up in her bubble dress and crazy hair colors. That's her. I don't think she's trying to pretend to be anything she's not. As for Madonna, I loved her old stuff... but SHE is pretending to be YOUNG. And that gets pretty icky sometimes. Plus, her accents freak me out. She needs to pick one and stick with it. 🙂 JMO tho.
