Everything wood had done had been manipulative. He hire her, he claim because she was the slayer , he ask her out, than make a reference that she won't get fire for saying no.. of course if that was true why mention it and put the idea in her head? I believe he stage that fight with the vamps in the ally (in First Date) For Buffy to see that he was on her side. : mad3

But let take a closer look:

1.) he had on fighting clothes, instead of going out clothes. he dress up to go to work, it would seem like he would dress up to go to a fancy french restaurant.

2.) He drive a car, so why walk to the restaurant, unless he wants something to attack them.

3) he give her a gift, and invite himself over. (in Get it done)

4. he tells everyone he the son of a slayer, in order to get access into the inner circle. ( think of the movie 6 degree of Separation )

I think everything he has done, has been manipulative in some way. But why? I do not believe his motive is just "Spike", I believe their is something more to it than that. . . He seem like he wanted Buffy to trust him for some reason, he keep going on, and on about his mom being a slayer, yet , if he was raise by his mom's watcher, as he said he was, he would have met another slayer before Buffy, so why did he give Buffy the bag?, instead of the slayer before her? Wood tells Buffy about his mother being a slayer only so he can gain her trust, however, the fact that once he tells her ,he doesn't ever mention Jonathan. .Also, the fact that there is no information on Wood prior to him arriving in SD is way suspicious. The words the first evil/Chloe spoke to them,(in Get it done) echoes what Buffy said to Wood in private. where was the first evil to her that? or did someone tell him? would someone who claim to fight evil , knowingly align himself with the first evil?

Do you think Wood is manipulative? why, or why not.?

They did take the car to the restaurant, but since the car can't fit in an alley, they probably parked and then walked to the restaurant. We all know that they used a car to get there 'cause when Spike went to see Buffy (and Wood) to tell about Xander, they used the car to get to the school (which Wood was driving). It's his car for sure, because Buffy can't drive and since when does Spike have a car?

And Wood spoke to the first evil in his mothers form in spite, he hated the creation but when it said that Spike was the killer he decided he had to find out and make sure of it himself.

since when does Spike have a car?

Spike have had a car since"Lover's walk". and "a New man". he drove out of town to fine Dru in lover's walk. and he drove Giles around in "a new man".

Xander ,Buffy and Andrew all was on , or been around the seal, so tell me why come "Woods' was the only one to change into a demon in "storyteller". also didn't his demon eyes look the way cordy's did on "Angel"

Personally, I don't like Wood.

Yes, I think he is manipulative, and he has something that he is not telling. I do not trust him.

He's got to be an agent of the First or something.

I don't trust Wood because I get a feeling of instability and paranoia around him. Given the way he grew up, and his vendetta about his mother, that's not surprising.

The question is, is he just a character that's going to "sink or swim" depending on whether or not he gets his act together, or is he a pawn or agent of Evil? I personally don't have a clue.

why didn't Wood just check the watcher's journal to find out who killed his mother, when he was going through those years of seeking revenge..That where Giles found out about Spike😕 Wood was 4 years old when his mother died, yet he spent more time hating her killer, than loveing his mother. So, my be question is what fuel that hate?

Wood's plaything:

Wood's mother told him he can go over her watcher's house and play with "the spooky doodads" that he like so much.
I assume she might be talking about the "shadows puppets", in the slayer emergency kit?
that Woods gave Buffy.
I wonder did wood ever go thru the portal? why would the council let him keep it.?I figured his watcher would pass it along to the next slayer that might need it, rather than let a four year old keep it as a reminder of his mom. actually, it didn't seem like it belong to his mother, it belong to the watcher. When Nikki was talking to little Robin , it doesn't sound like she use it herself. Hmm, the bag is a portal to another dimension, why would a watcher give that to wood. Do Giles know about the bag?😱

I do think you're on to something.

Wood is not a servant of The First. At least not moreso than say Willow. I guess depending on how you look at it, everyone has been a servant of The First at one time or another. On the other hand, he did knowingly allow The First to manipulate him, but I believe that he did so thinking that he would get what he wanted out of it, and then continue to fight the first.

Wood's motive to kill Spike is really not that evil when it comes down to it. I would do the same thing if Spike murdered my mother. Wood did seem to understand the difference between the souled Spike and then monster within him, at least enough to want to kill Spike while he was the monster, and I'm sure the 'temporary insanity' type excuse of Spike having no soul would be easy to overlook when he killed your mother. I don't think Wood is evil in any sense. He's just biased. Involved. Unobjective. Who can blame him? On the other hand, he may prove to be a pretty good tool for The First regardless of his basically good nature.

Anyway, I think you had a really good point when you suggested he staged and manipulated alot of events. And not for the sake of Spike. After all, he didn't know Spike killed his mother initially, nor had he even met or seen Spike when he brought Buffy into his office. But I do believe that he admitted as much to Buffy earlier. He manipulated himself into the position as principal, and manipulated Buffy into her job etc because he said that someone needed to stop The First. Interestingly enough, he didn't seem to think that Buffy knew about The First. Kind of funny that; he figured that he knew more than the Proffessional 😉

There could be more to it. But I don't think that there needs to be. In any case, I love these speculative posts. Keep up the good work! It's nice to see that people can still do some thinking out there without hopping over to the local spoiler site. 🙂

The first has said it is not time for Spike yet. Wood wanted Spike dead, and tried to kill him.

I think this shows that Wood is not conspiring with the First.

What I want to know... is how did Wood now about the First and that is was around to cause trauble at this point and time?

The gang didn't even really know until~~~ gosh, I don't remember what episode~~~ but only since then have they realized just what they are dealing with.

So, how did Wood know? I don't think that its common knowledge of 'regular' civilians to know what the big bad is...
Therefore, I think he is up to no good.

That's a good point. He was the principal of the school sitting on top of the hellmouth, so he had to know something was up. Then he came to Buffy to find out?

Good point. As was established in S3 "Amends", the First Evil has been around since before the written word, and has existed in every evil act or thought there is or was.

The fundamental problem with Wood at this point is not that he's evil, it's that he's a loose cannon. He has different priorities than the rest of the gang. That's why Buffy told him there was no room for vendettas: he's sucking energy away from the Mission.

On the other hand, he may prove to be a pretty good tool for The First regardless of his basically good nature.

That's the big question, isn't it?

The first also wanted Buffy to kill Spike in "Sleeper", and told Andrew in "First Date " you only Hear what I want you to Hear and you only See, what I want you to See😱

which could mean that he wanted everyone to believe he was using Spike, when in actuallity, he have someone else. while everyone is watching Spike, they are not watching each other. therefore I do not think the first really wanted Spike dead. first he was hoping that Buffy would do it, when she wouldn't he had Wood. either way he comes out ahead. because , like I said , everyone is watching Spike, he the one people feel they can trust. but what about the rest?? could they be working for the first as well.😕
