Am I the only who thought that Marti Noxon sounds a lot like Willow, if Willow had a good singing voice?

When I first saw the musical, I thought that Willow was singing "Parking Ticket". Then I thought that she should have been a voice double if Willow had a solo.

I thought the fact that Allison obviously can't carry a tune is being funny. Especially during the "This line is mostly filler" part because she is only really given two lines through the whole episode. You can hear her of keyness loudly during the end song and it cracks me up. It wouldn't be the same without it.

I wish they'd given Alyson more to sing...it woulda been like an early episode of American Idol...and I'm sure they could have found a way to make her lack of vocal ability funny...

I don't really think Aly wanted to sing, from things I had heard in commentaries and interviews. Which is why I think they only gave her a couple of lines.

Personally, bad singers irk me, so I was happy she didn't get more to sing. I love her, but I was not really wanting to hear a bunch of off-keyness....

yeah they joke about ally sending joss death threats because he said hey wer doing a musical. i like her miming on the dvd extra to omwf (if that was in the show it woulda been like when phoebe in friends got smelly cat made into a music video and they dubbed her singing voice)

I guess it would have been kinda funny if they did it right, but still... I'm glad they chose not to. LOL

Well, Alyson really, really didn't want to sing, as others have said.
And I would have hated it if they'd used a voice double for Willow. Part of the all-around greatness of this episode is that you know each actor is actually the one singing.

Exactly! I have to admit... I once heard a clip of SMG singing the "Brady Bunch" theme song and it was HORRENDOUS. When I found out they were doing a musical ep and that all the actors were doing their own singing, I was thrilled but also terrified that having to suffer through horrible performances for the sake of the episode, you know? I was pleasantly surprised in some ways but also relieved that some people (Aly, Michelle) didn't sing any more than they did. 😉

Aw come on, Michelle wasn't that bad... I really liked the little "does anybody even notice" part and was rather disappointed it was so short. 🙂

(Anyway all you guys who find Michelle's voice annoying should so stay clear of the German dub, lol. You all know I "grew into the fan-fold" with the dub, and now that I first hear MT's real voice on my new-ish S7 DVDs, I'm pretty much instantly in love with it, as it's sweet and melodious in comparison. 😛 )

I wholeheartedly agree about Aly, though. She's a woman of many talents, but singing just isn't among them. :lmao: Also, the way they handled it - giving Will no song of her own and like, two or three lines in other songs (choruses not included) - lends a nice additional layer of irony to her "mostly filler" line in WTTF. 😉

It kind of makes sence, really. Willow was afraid of performing all through High School, perhaps this is part of the reason why. Plus, it's one more thing that Tara is actually good at, that Willow brings out in her without being able to do it herself.

ooh, good point about Tara!
I could get used to Willow singing.. When she sings in I´ve Got a Theory it´s not that bad 😀

I didn't think SMG did that bad (well, after all the singing lessons I'm gussing the cast had to take). Alyson said that she was very surprised about the technology that made her sound good. So that wasn't all Aly's voice. So I'm guessing they did that vocal editing to most of the cast who didn't really sing well. As for Willow, it's true that in "Nightmares" Willow was very traumatic about her singing. But in OMWF, Willow actually thought it was neat.
But I think the worst singer was Nick.

I'm not sure about that... I love Willow/Alyson dearly, but her few lines in "I have a theory" definitely sound erm, non-great enough that I'm glad we didn't get a full length Willow song. :hihi: Nick may be the worst of those that did get one, but I'm pretty sure Aly would have kicked him from that taillight position if we had heard more of her singing. 😉

LOL! Probably.

My rating from best singer to worst:

1- Giles, best sung line "Wish I could play the father"
2- Tara, best sung line, "Wish I could staaaaay"
3- Spike, best sung line, "Whisper in the dead man's ear, doesn't make it real"
4- Anya, best sung line, "She came from the grave much graver"
5- Buffy, best sung line, "'Cause I will walk through the fire"
6- Xander, best sung line, "Is she looking for a pot of gold?"
7- Dawn, best sung line, "Where do we go from here?"
8- Willow, best sung line, "This line is mostly filler"

Yes, yes, yes! That was totally Giles' best sung line.... sends shivers up and down my spine... :)
I agree that it's good Willow - or anyone else - wasn't dubbed.
In the French version, it's ridiculous (I could stop right there, cos the French version is generally ridiculous), because many of the usual "dubbers" didn't want to sing so they used other people, whose voices didn't sound anything like that sometimes !! Such as the woman singing for Tara. OMG ! It's so stupid ! But a few things are fine. Luckily the woman dubbing Buffy is also a singer so it was agreeable.
If you're interested I could post mp3s of the French version songs. Some are sorta good.

Oh. My. God. They actually dubbed the songs?

I hardly ever have anything good to say about the German dub, but at least they went for original voices with subtitles on the OMWF songs!

I guess they finally learned their lesson after the Xena musical episode a few years back... they did dub the music for that one, and with the obviously different voice talents from the "dub speakers" it really doesn't hold up to what little I know from the original version - I mean, it holds up to it even less than dubs hold up to the original anyway. :sigh: They also completely ruined that one scene in Trek's Voyager when the Doc improvises sung orders to Tom Paris to the tune of "La donna e mobile"... Beautifully funny in English, but a cringeworthy piece of :censored: in German. They didn't even bother to make the German lyrics rhyme!!! :banghead:

French Buffy fans, you have my sympathy. 🙁

And even if the little bit that's left of my school French is pathetic so I'll probably hardly understand anything, please do post what they made of it in the dub! I'd really be interested in that!

You should've heard Ukrainian or Russian versions %)
Nick wasn't too bad, but he was really pitchy in some parts. He was one of the ones I thought did better than I expected him to. 🙂

I suppose Nick did okay for a musical...but he definitely couldn't carry an entire song on his own. His voice is kinda like Posh Spice's...just very...flat.
