A friend of mine just told me that her parents are still laughing thinking about me because when I met them,

1. I lost my way when I came back from the bathroom
2. I said to the dad "How come your daughter don't tell you you sniff while she tells me that all the time?" (followed by an auto facepalm)
3. I threw up their acid lemonade twice in 20 minutes (almost on the cat the first time).

Thing is, it's not the first time I make such a first impression. A friend's mother laughs at me whenever she sees me because my bag attacked their dog and I had difficulties eating my spaghettis with a spoon.

I'm almost afraid to have to some day meet my future boyfriend's parents, because I know something will go wrong again.

So, folks, I want to feel less alone in my "oh-gosh-what-a-shame". Did you ever wished you were less clumsy or that your mouth was linked to your brain when you met someone's parents?

LOL!!! Oh my gosh... I'm so sorry but I had to crack up laughing there for a minute over those mental images. 😉 You poor thing!

I have never said anything super dumb in front of anyone's parents, but when I first met my husband, we went out on a double date one night with his parents. Right after we got seated for dinner, I accidentally passed gas. It was one of those you don't know is coming til it's too late- and too loud. I was MORTIFIED, but his dad and mom just laughed it off, thank God.

One evening meeting one of my ex's parents they had a seafood dinner. I hate seafood. They were rich and knew it. They had lobster, caviar (sp) and oysters amongst other things. I had never tried lobster before so my bf at the time just told me to watch what he did and do the same. SO, I cracked open the claw, clumsily I might add, and got covered in lobster as it sprayed all over me! Nice impression I left LOL.

Oh, no! LOL
Somewhat I had an image in my head reading all this, which was Phoebe meeting her husband's (then just a boyfriend) parents in 'Friends'. I imagine how horrible it must feel like. But I do think that even if things you do and say in front of other people's parents seem... embarrassing and horrible, if they see it as part of who you are, a silly person, in the sense of adorable, goofy and funny, that's even better than a boring person overall. It's even gracefull, I'll dare to say. I find the silly kind of people more interesting and fun to be around (even with vomit!), I don't get bored with them! I'm like that, I do like doing silly, even stupid, things. Nothing wrong with being silly!

I don't really have interesting stories on this subject, but, I remember when I met my ex's grandmother and we had just talked for like half an hour, she turned to him and told him: "if you break up with this girl, I'm never talking to you again.", lol. Parents tend to like me, because I'm kind of shy and just smile and nod a lot mostly, haha. I only open up after I've know someone for a while. It's the people my age who don't like me that much, for the same reasons mentioned above. 😛

Wow, today I ramble a lot. Sorry, had too much coffee. 😱

My thing with my friends' parents is they hate me. One of my friends' mother wouldn't let me hang out with her daughter until my friend took me to a family picnic as a form of protest. She also took another friend of ours that her mother liked. In short, the other friend was a complete jerk the entire night (not trying to, he just is a jerk) and I was a really wonderful guest. So I was liked and allowed to be a part of her daughter's life.

The only really embarrassing one I have is not at all family friendly. You can pm me for the story, but be forewarned. It involves my ex's very backwoods grandmother....

I never had that problem... I'm kind of a naturally charming person, and parents usually are okay with me (even if they aren't okay with people who do the same things I do and are the same things I am, religion and sexual orientation wise). And I'm overly polite, so... I don't do anything that might embarrass me.

I think it's mainly because I look so young and I am very shy when I meet people, so I don't seem threatening or anything.

My parents hate most of my friends, though, especially my ex-girlfriend and one of my close friends who's in college now. My mom and my dad totally disagree on one of my friends- my mom likes her because she's tough and is kind of my protector, my dad dislikes her because she's tough and gets in trouble a lot (though granted, she mostly gets in trouble on my behalf...).

But I don't think any parents dislike me.

I had a good laugh just now.

My ex-girlfriend's parents were divorced so I had to do it twice. Dad's went fine but when it came to mom's? Oh dear.

Her new husband or boyfriend or whoever he was cooked us hamburgers for dinner. And I hated hamburgers. I hadn't touched one in ages. And this particular hamburger was big and juicy. I almost died looking at it. And I'm extremely nervous of course and there's no way I'm telling him I can't eat what he just cooked for me. I mean, he spent time making me dinner when he didn't even have to. So I ate every last bite. I'm an overly polite person.

Before you know it, I'm projectile vomiting in the bathroom. I puked in the doorway of the bathroom and then all over the toilet before actually making it into said toilet. I spent about 20 minutes puking.

However, when I was finished my girlfriend slept in the bathroom with me on the floor in case I got sick again, which was nice.

So that's my story.
