^Agreed about the German defence, Higuain and Messi will tear Mertesacker to shreds. And the Dutch defence isn't much cop either...

Congrats on Holland for getting through! I wasn't expecting it, but I'm glad. I've always had a soft spot for Holland, and it's about time Brazil let someone else get their hands on a World Cup. Hopefully Ghana will stay on top and get through too.

Holland-Spain final?
 
I've got a feeling for Argentina personally, i've had that since the start of the tournament. Maybe i'll get something right.
 
Best game of the finals so far?

Gutted for Ghana, I started the match wanting Uruguay to go through and by the end wanted Ghana to win 🙁
 
Wow... seriously, Ghana just showed us the worst way to lose such a big game. First they can't score while the goalkeeper is out. Then they get a penalty kick to win, the guy shoots WAY too high. Then they shoot two softy in the shootouts... I rooted for them but they can only blame themselves for losing.

Actually I blame Suarez, it may have just been a reaction sub-conciously, cause I figure I'd do the same and have my hand fly out but stuff like that should just be counted.

Like Penalty Tries in Rugby, if it looks like a team would have scored without the interference the referee has the power to just give them the points.

It was on the line and he had his hands above his head, clearly would have been a goal without the interference so the referee and his officials should be able to give it as a goal.

There's so much that they need to update in football in terms of prevention of stuff like this.
 
I don't get the hate for Suarez. It was an instinctive reaction and he got punished for it. It wasn't like Maradona, he actually received the proper punishment for the offence he committed. He took a gamble to keep his side in the World Cup and it worked, i think its brillant play.

At the end of the day Ghana had a penalty to win and they didn't take it.
 
Deliberate handball is deliberate handball in my book.

Scoring with a punch of the ball because your head can't reach it and saving the ball with your hands because as an outfield player you can't get your body to block either way, it's deliberate, it's wrong.

I don't know if he has yet but I think it'd be pretty big of him to issue an apology, because like I said in a previous post it may have just been a reaction and I could see myself doing it, doesn't make it the right thing though.

Aside from that, pretty much everyone interested in football besides Uruguayan nationals were supporting Ghana, so that will instantly create an air of hatred solely for the fact without his hands in the way Ghana would be the first African team in a Semi-Final of the World Cup.
 
My view is that he took the only option left to him. He knew he'd get caught and ultimately sent off, thus ruling him out of the next match if his country were to get through.

All that mattered to him though was to try and give his country a chance of progressing. Its no different than deliberately fouling someone to stop them from scoring and as a result giving away a penalty.

It was smart play, the only other alternative was to let the goal go in and see his country go out the World Cup. Instead he took his punishment, sacrificed himself for the good of the team, its unselfish play which worked wonders. The whole of Uruguay will treat him as a hero.
 
Yeah it may have been ~smart~ but I'm on honourable type of guy. I'd rather win because I deserved it, over the fact that a teammate basically took it upon himself to make a decision to act in an unsportsman like way that will probably not only garner a lot of hatred for himself but also the Uruguay team as whole, even though they could do nothing about it.

I used to flip out at team mates on my high school sports team for not showing respect for an opponent and not acting sportingly, never mind the world cup.

I gave up watching the Ghana v Uruguay game. The football was so bad, you'd have expected someone skilled enough to play for their country, and paid enough to have learnt by now that the ball is lighter than normal. I mean, how many player to player passes were even reasonably good?
Did that Suarez get a red card for what he did?

I saw the Brazil v Holland game earlier. At the 10 minute mark I had decided the referee was getting paid by the Brazil team, by the end of the game they should have had 4 players on yellow card and 3 others sent off.
How ever, by far the worst player in that game was Holland's number 11 Roben ( the, I've got half a second to kick the ball so I'll wait two minutes while I make up my mind what to do with, oh, a Brazilian player has got the ball. ) Although I must admit, watching that Roben guy play, I actually felt he had one of the same disabilities as me.

Down to the important stuff, who is going to win the Oscar for the best dive / of course I'm injured, honest! Italy was the leading contender with Brazil a close second. Now though, its being left with Uruguay and the most capable Argentinians.
 
Valid point but i don't see that Suarez is disrespecting Ghana. All i see is him thinking, right the ball is going in i'll stop it whatever way i can, any thought of disrespecting Ghana isn't in his head, its just making sure the ball doesn't go in the net. I'd also argue that many players would have done the same thing in his position. It was an act of desperation which he was punished for.

He was aware of the rules and accepted them. He didn't get away with the offence. Also the free kick that was given to Ghana which led to the penalty incident wasn't a free kick so you could say justice was done.
 
I think that the rules should be changed. The referee should have the power to award a goal in that situation. There was no doubt that the ball was going in if Suarez hadn't have handled it. Suarez cheated and knew he would get caught, but frankly the benefits of cheating far outweigh the risks/punishment in that situation, and I think that's wrong. I hope FIFA take it upon themselves to make sure Suarez misses the final.

Best(/worst) dive so far has got to be Spain's against Portugal. The Portugese player walked past him, the Spainard threw himself to the ground clutching his face, and the Portugese guy got sent off.

Germany play as a team whereas Argentina were just a group of individuals. I thought there atatcking quality would lead to them winning but full credit to Germany.

Trust me Tom when i say i do know a bit about Football. Its just that this World Cup has been crazy.

Coming into the tournament Messi and Rooney were touted as two of the best players in the world yet they didn't score 1 goal between them, crazy.
