I don't think I'm the only person that finds fascinating all the little moments in Buffy you only really see from multiple viewings. I thought I'd share the ones I was able to catch from Showtime.
An interesting thing has been happening with the symbols carved into Spike's chest and stomach. In Never Leave me you can make out symbols on the corners of the triangle on Spike's stomach. In Bring on the night there's only a little half-moon on one corner. Now in Showtime each corner of the triangle has a clearly defined symbol. Are these symbols significant?
There's a couple of jokes I missed the first time:
Xander is untieing Andrew's Arm from the chair and Andrew squeals, "Careful, that my Joystick hand."
Xander replies, "I'm not going to touch that one".
The first time I heard this I thought Xander meant he wasn't going to physically touch the hand.
There's another zip-by joke, where Anya is complaining, because no one wants to have sex with her. She tells the demon she feels like a leper. The demon tells her to come back when she is a leper. Was I the only one that missed that joke the first time.
I have to get closed captioning. No matter how mean times I rewind that bit where Andrew is talking about Bond films I can't make out what he's saying. He seems to be saying something about the Brocolli's who I think were producers of the Bond films.
I hear people on the Buffy boards complaining how unlikable the SITs are, because they're so whiny. These people should go back and rewind those scene's to watch Molly in the background.
Molly is super-likable. Molly is this good-hearted, well-meaning, meaning klutz with a Xander-sized appetite. She's a total misfit, but she's anxious to be a part of the group. She's more a scooby than a slayer in that respect. Another thing I enjoy about Molly is the way she totally idolizes Buffy. Even the FE can't shake Molly's Buffy-respect.
To go on with rewind moments though, for some reason the FE wants to keep Spike and Buffy alive at this point in the storyline. We know this, and because we do, there's something we miss. When the FE is giving instructions to the Turok-Han, it says "take them all...except her". We assume it means take them all except Buffy, but that isn't what it said. It said take them all except "HER".
I'm still suspiscious of Kennedy. I realize she's being set up to become Willow's future squeeze, but that doesn't necessarily mean she's good.
There's an interesting thing buried in the mind-speak scene.
Buffy is speaking, but it's Dawn's voice. It's kind of like the scene at the end of a murder mystery where the detective voice-overs what was really happening behind the scenes to create the murder.
I'm thinking the writers wouldn't do this unless they planned to do it again in future episodes, because if it's only used in this episode the technique seems out of place. I'm thinking they're going to use this technique again to explain all the little mysteries from Season 7 like why Wood went into the school basement, then buried Jonathan.
Another thing about the mind-speak scene. Buffy can contact Willow, but Willow has to connect with Xander. Is it possible that Buffy and Willow developed a Psychic connection during the scene at the end of Same Time Same Place, when Willow and Buffy connect Psychically to heal Willow?
The last rewind moment I was able to catch was one you see on first viewing, but you don't really connect full significance to. It's at the end when Buffy comes to rescue Spike. Rewind that scene and concentrate on the shoulder touch of Spike on Buffy and what happens immediately after. For me it was a completely different scene after I did that.
