Most Beloved Characters

As much as some of us may like Faith or Angel, they have some detractors.

My quest is to find the characters in the show everybody likes. or well 99% of everybody.

The only ones I can think of that might qualify are Joyce and Tara.
 
Kennedy.

Serious answer: I'd probably say Giles. Even if he isn't your favourite character, he's still well liked by most. You'd be hard pressed to find someone that dislikes him.

Giles and Oz for me. I was going to say Cordelia, but some comments towards Willow in season 1, mean that I haven't always liked her. I've always liked Giles and Oz, even at their worst moments.

Yeah I like Fred but sometimes she did irritate. Like when Gwen electrocuted Gunn.
Fred cries and says " you died and left me all alone". I'm sure this was meant to be heart-breaking. It always makes me cringe. I always thought Gunn should have said "Get over yourself, i'm the one who nearly died. "

I'll agree about Joyce and Tara. And possibly Oz (despite what he did to Wilow - he's still so cute and funny)

I wouldn't agree with Spike at all. Sure, he's a popular character, but he was his fair share of fans who absolutely despise him. And a few who are pretty much neutral on his character.
 
Actually, as impossible as it sounds, I know someone who HATES Tara.

I seriously think everyone has to have some level of liking-ness towards Buffy. There would be no reason to watch if you hated her.

And Willow is my top choice for "most beloved" character.
 
I wouldn't say Joyce. There were times I disliked her. Most notably in "Anne" when she tries to blame Giles for Buffy running off. That part always makes me hate her a bit, since she was the one who told Buffy not to come back if she left. And actually, even at their best, I'm pretty neutral about both Tara and Joyce. To me there were just much more interesting characters than both of them so I wouldn't count either of them among my personal most beloved.
 
Well, I think there's a difference between what makes a character interesting and what makes on beloved. I mean, Tara was really sweet and selfless, but really not very interesting (in my opinion) whereas Spike, on the other hand, is a fascinating multi-layered character. Yet, you don't really want to hug him, ya know?
 
I don't know. I tend to love some of the characters I wouldn't necessarily love in real life. In real life, of course I prefer kind people. But on the tube, sometimes I have a somewhat different response. I absolutely love bitchy Cordelia from Buffy, moreso than the good and virtuous Cordy from the latter half of Angel. Spike can be a huge ass at times. Anya says some terrible things. But these things just make me love their characters.

Good point. I can't see why someone would spend time following a show where they don't like the main character.

At least not until the last three seasons.
 
Whereas I love Tara, I know quite a few people who hate her. (Which is very sad!)

I think the only characters I've never heard much hate towards are Willow and actually Faith. I don't think I've ever spoken to anyone who dislikes the character of Faith.
 
I don't hate Tara -I don't hate any character - but she's not interesting to me.

I don't think there's a character that everybody loves, I've see many who hate Giles, especially after the whole Spike/Wood thing in S7, and I've seen a few who dislike Oz.
 
I disliked Faith a lot actually and i was no fan of Tara either prior to last two seasons. They both improved a lot for me there 🙂

Joyce I was not exactly fan either, but would go as far as to say disliked.

I do agree on no universal person who all liked. Best chances are guest stars I guess as they have less time to do something to piss off some viewers 😉 I would bet beside named ones Ethan Rayne is high on list.

Speaking of Angel, I never really warmed up to Fred or Illyria. Ironically I liked Eve.
 
I never heard anyone dont like Tara too. 🙂

I think most people love Cordy, maybe? She's mean, but forgivable because she learned things and became a better person.

But I love Faith the most 😀

Oh no. Clearly not Joyce. She's the only major character in the show whom I really, really HATE. :evillol: (and I know at least one other person on this board who at least strongly dislikes her, too... of course, we might be that one percent. 😛 )

I really don't think you'll ever find anyone who's really universally loved. Well, maybe Mr Gordo, or Miss Kitty Fantastico. (But even there, someone might just be grumpy or have a strange dislike of "cute and fluffy", so...)
