Movies of 2009

So far this year my cinema experience has been mixed.

The first film of the year I saw was 'Yes Man'.

What a pathetic pile of crap that was. I laughed once in the entire movie and that was out of pity!
Jim Carrey is officially too old to play the Ace Ventura/The Mask kindof characters.

The next film was 'Twilight'.

It was alright. This one was definitely better because of the company. We sat watching the movie just ripping into it.
What was with Jasper?
He had that look of mild horror that you see in a virgin gay boy moments before...this is a family friendly board so I shan't finish the sentence but you understand.

Finally today I saw 'The Spirit'.

I had read some terrible reviews of this movie and to be quite honest it was utter bollocks, however I LOVED IT.
Eva Mendes is now THE sexiest woman in the world to me and I defy anyone not to find Sam Jackson hot dressed as a Nazi heiling!!
The plot was nonsensical BUT it was completely tongue in cheek and great.


Movies I am looking forward to over the coming weeks:

Role Models - I like Paul Rudd and while it looks silly, I think it should be fun.

Slumdog Millionaires - looks amazing.

The Outsider - John Hurt and Ron Perlman and monsters...bring it on.

The Defiant One - I don't normally wanna see movies like this in the cinema BUT it looks great.

Watchmen - I kinda want this to be one of THE worst movies ever made...but it won't be.

other than that Bitch Slap interests me, and Terminator, Red Sonja, 9... all i canthink off the top of me head.... im trying to go to the cinema less now and watch movies i own that i aint got round to watching more than once or twice

The only movie I've seen this year is Slumdog Millionaire. It was just brilliant. I'd love to see it again.

As for movies I'm looking forward to, I'm counting the days until Watchmen. I just finished reading the graphic novel for the third time and I'm more psyched for the movie than ever. The whole thing with Fox and WB pisses me off to no end (as if I needed another reason to hate Fox...) and I'm praying it gets worked out and comes out on its March 6th release date.

I saw Twilight, but it was in December. I'm not even going to discuss that... not right now... I'll rip it to shreds too much and I feel a little bad for Twilight fans who aren't raving fangirls... (I do know some who exist)

As for movies that are coming out this year that I think might be interesting....

-X-Men Origins: Wolverine (grudgingly)
-Star Trek
-Terminator (but only for Christian Bale)
-Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
-Sherlock Holmes
-Prince of Persia: Sands of Time
-Where the Wild Things Are
-Dragonball (even though it will suck, but *maybe* for James Marsters' sake)

I saw Role Models today, it was ok. Nothing great. But the woman who runs the centre that the kids go to, is hilarious. Definitely the funniest character. 😀

'09...Watchmen. Though yes, it will probably fall far short of the comic.

Wanna see Outlander (vikings vs an alien).

Public Enemies (Depp and Bale in a 30s gangster epic).

Definitely Avatar. Hopefully Cameron's absence from sci-fi will have been worth the wait.

And I'm curious about 9.

We recently saw "Bed Time Stories" with Adam Sandler. I enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to "Mall Cop"...reminds me of an old friend of mine. Underworld's latest part three...Rise of the Lycans might be fun, as well as "The Day the Earth Stood Still" and "Aliens vs. Monsters" (or vice versa?)...the trailer looked entertaining.

Me and a couple of my friends are gonna dress up for Dragonball! It's gonna be hilariously bad EPIC. And is it weird if I still think James is hot in his Piccolo makeup?

Oh, and before, I forgot to mention Sherlock Holmes. I'll definitely have to see that, mainly because I love Robert Downey, Jr. Dorian Gray sounds promising, too, but I have a feeling it'll completely stray from the book. Plus, I'm still not sure about the casting of Ben Barnes as Dorian (as hot as he may be.) Ooh, and Terminator. Bah, there are so many movies I want to see this year!

Sherlock Holmes, for Downey yes. What is a Guy Ritchie-directed Sherlock Holmes flick gonna look like I wonder. Forgot about The Wrestler. Hate wrestling, but this looks really good.

"Watchmen" looks really dodgy, and will probably be crappy, the director of 300, yeah that's not a good selling point for me. That was the ugliest movie i have ever ever seen. But, of course i'll go see it. Such a great comic.
And i'm looking forward to The Lovely Bones, hope it's good. The book is great.

I wanted to see The Unborn, but then realized it was rated PG-13 which means it probably won't scare me as much as I want it to until they release the "Too Scary for (the Teenage People We Market to in the) Theaters!" version on DVD. I'm heartily disliking this trend, by the way.

I don't normally like movies like this but the trailer looks really good - and I think they are all doing Eastern European accents😛

The trailer did piss me off at one point. When the narrator says 'in a story never before told'.
Its been told numerous times, just not by Hollywood.

The Bielski partisans (the official name has been changed several times) was the largest group of Jewish partisans in the course of World War II who fought against the Nazi German occupiers and their collaborators in the vicinity of Nowogrodek and Lida in present-day Belarus. The group spent around two years living in the forests and were initially organized by members of the Bielski family.

So far I've seen five films this year, but all just on DVD, so they are a bit older. Though I watched "Bedtime Stories" just before new year. Had to watch in German though, which was a shame, as Russel Brand is in it and he spoke German. Urgh.

Anyway I've seen:

- The Bucket List: Absolutely beautiful film.
- Knocked Up: Was quite funny and ok. After looking at the special features I'm kind of happy they cut out all that other material. It would have draged the film on for ever.
- Juno: Great film, though I must admit not my type of film.
- Catch and Release: A really greast film. Great story, great actors and everything. I'd highly recommend it.
- Lovewrecked: Crappy film. The only good thing about it were the bikinis. Amanda Bynes didn't impress me at all and that girl from the Sopranos kind of shocked me. I've known better from her performances on the Sopranos. Anyway and I also hate the way the describe male and female bff-relationships in these American films. 🙁
