Movies to watch on Halloween

I'm not really a big fan of horror movies, so I usually watch family friendly Halloween movies. Halloweentown and Hocus Pocus are fun.

I'd suggest The Forgotten Ones,
The Messengers
or Dark Water are ok.
Or watch Lesbian Vampire Killer for a laugh but if I want the take the rise out of one I'll watch The Blair Witch Project as there are several silly things in it.
The Exorcist 1 was okay but not enough Tubular Bells though.

Which version of Dark Water? I actually like both, the remake is a rare time when they did a very solid job, and is maybe just as good in its own way.

TBWP is one which is easy to mock in hindsight mostly because of the Heather stuff near the end, but for me it has stood the test of time and is still a very scary and original film.
 
I didn't know there was more than one version of Dark Water, I've got an Asian one by the director of The Ring as recommended for children of all ages, the neighbours kids that is not yours, it'll give 'em the heebie jeebies for at least a year.
 
Yeah think it was Walter Salles who remade it in the US. Has Jennifer Cornelly in it. I thought the remake was stylish, but didn't over do it, and had the core basics of the original concept while being a bit more character driven than the Asian film. Check it out.
 
Dark Water is even more frightening as it nearly pre-tells the Lam story. That's a movie I'd like to see made.

I think about that story nearly every day. So so weird.
Is anybody familiar with Braindead (aka Dead Alive) by Peter Jackson? Me and my friends used to watch that one on a regular basis. It's more of a comedy but it's very, very gory. I read they tore down the sets it was shot at, because they couldn't get rid of the fake blood.

Yeah I've seen Brain Dead. Very entertaining film!
 
I'm sitting in the Jewish Community Center parking lot, watching the wind carries leaves across it. It looks like a snowstorm of leaves. Made me think of Something Wicked This Way Comes. That should be added to this list.

As far as I am concerned there is only one version of The Crow. I understand fully there are others, I just felt they were not as well done. I'm not even going to start on my distain for those that re-told the Eric and Shelly story. It completely boils my blood. There is no need, back up, leave it alone. You could say i'm a big fan. I've been lucky enough to meet James O'Barr and get some signed prints from him and even have a Crow inspired tattoo for a tribute tattoo I have for my Mum.

I saw the one that had David Boreanaz and Tara Reid. it was terrible
You don't need special movies to watch at that day, horror (and similar types of) movies can be watched at any day of the year 🙂

Well, yeah, obviously. Cinemas and theatres, TV stations and TV shows tend to make an event of it though, as do the people who partake. I know plenty of folks who gather to watch classic horror movies on projector screens together. Horror is much more popular on Halloween, it's just the way it is.
 
I just had another movie pop in my head. This was actually, as far as I can recall, the only movie that scared me: Event Horizon.

Two other movies that made me uncomfortable:
In the Mouth of Madness
Wes Craven's New Nightmare (when I first saw it no other show was breaking the fourth wall like it.. i loved it from the moment 'nancy' was called Heather)
