'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' reruns coming to MTV next month

Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the classic 1997-2003 The WB series (and later UPN) starring Sarah Michelle Gellar will join the Viacom owned MTV and also sister network Logo in January 2010. Reruns of the series will first launch on Logo on New Year's Day with a 16-hour marathon running from 6am to 12am; on January 4, reruns will air regularly on Logo back to back Weeknights at 6pm and 7pm (repeating at 2am and 3am) and Friday nights at 9pm and 10pm. MTV will begin airing the series on January 10 with an 8-hour marathon beginning at 11am. The following day, Buffy will start kicking vampire butt every weekday at 11am, following Grounded for Life and Degrassi: The Next Generation.

I am so excited for this I don't even care that it's on MTV! =D

holy crap I am so excited
Does anybody know if it will be airing on MTV in Canada too? I sure hope so....if not, I'm very jealous of all of you from the U.S!

Huh. This really surprises me. Buffy seems so far off from the regular MTV programming that I can't imagine it airing there for very long. It just doesn't seem like it would strike a chord with audiences who've come to expect such (not particularly) quality programming about bratty girls turning 16 and crying because they got the wrong kind of $100,000 car or about parents picking a different stupid person for their stupid kid to date aside from the stupid person they're currently dating.

I can definitely see Buffy running on MTV after shows like Degrassi and Grounded for Life. Also, with the vampire craze going on, maybe it'll gain new viewers. As for me, I'll probably be watching the reruns on Logo.

Vampires are like, so cool! arrgh.
Wow, cool. Maybe our fandom will gain some new devotees as a result.

That's sort of a weird thought. On one hand I want the whole world to see how amazing this show is but on the other I feel protective, like the Buffyverse and the fandom is "ours", we've earned our dues so to speak and I don't want people jumping on the bandwagon.

Now I can get why the Start Trek fandom went bananas when all the newbies flooded it after the JJ.Abrams film.

Now I also get why people think we're insane 😀

I'll admit though, it would be fun to see Buffy on MTV. When two cultural icons collide😉

LOL i agree i like to keep Buffy to myself😛
No offense but i would hate millions of newbies :/ i hate when things become too popular 😛 ha

I'm exactly the same. To be honest, if I heard anyone at school mention watching Buffy, I think I'd be ready to run and jump. >.<

The thought of it airing on MTV is a pretty cool one, despite the fact I have all the boxsets so it makes no difference to me, but seriously; if a big hoarde of newbies starting becoming fans, I'll go insane. Especially if it's all because of the Twilight craze, that would just be creepy and annoying. However, I now love MTV for airing Buffy 😉

100% chance this is MTV trying to jump in on the recent vampire craze at a cheaper rate then making their own brand new show. They get something thats higher quality then most of the vamp-crap out there at a cheaper price... I'll take it.

I think BtvS fits in extremely well with the tweeny-bopper feel of MTV actually, especially S1-5.

Think about it, though. If Buffy gains more popularity, maybe something new will happen -- like that movie.

That movie that has nothing to do with the actual show? I'll pass.

A Joss movie on the other hand, I'm all for. 🙂

Oh, I have no idea what movie. Just a movie in general.

There's a movie that has nothing to do with the show? :/

There was a rumor that the Kuzuis (the director of the original Buffy movie that got billed as executive producer on all of Buffy and Angel without ever DOING anything) have all the rights to make a Buffy movie with or without Joss, and that they may do just that.

I am so freakin excited for this. I always wondered how the show was not in syndication. I am so excited. Finally!!! I am so setting up the dvr for this. It will be strange watching Buffy with commercials though. It has been a long time since that has happened.
