I initially did that too, but then forgot all I learnt when I barely used it for 2 years! I've learnt other stuff too in that time so now combined the old stuff that I've mostly forgotten and the new stuff and just having a play around

Gimp seems to have gradient maps, which are great for colouring large graphics like wallpapers. I'd have a search online for some gimp gradients to download, they work really well.
Hmm I keep wanting to make more but not got the inspiration for something. I think I'm going to try wallpapers again soon (by soon I mean this year!)
@GwenRaiden is it a Gimp one? Wallpapers are the one thing that I've never been happy with making, too much space to work with!
