My Kennedy rant

When Cordelia said something, is was clearly presented as something mean and we weren't supposed to agree with it, but with Kennedy it was presented like we were supposed to agree with her.

I don't exactly HATE her... But I DO NOT like her with Willow at ALL and I DO NOT like her snobby little attitude that thinks she's bstter than anyone else. Thanks for this rant! 😀

I don't hate Kennedy. I don't like her, but I don't hate her. And I think it's kinda cool that she had the guts to speak up even if she was "just" a potential.

At first I only hated her because I knew that Willow moved on with her. I didn't even really know who she was because I hadn't seen season seven but I knew what everyone was saying about her and so I kind of knew what to expect but when I first saw her, bam! It hit me. I hated her, I couldn't stand her. I'm like "Oh, so this is Kennedy?...EW". She was just so arrogant and thought she knew everything when she didn't. And she was so forceful towards Willow. She was like "Oh, hi. I like you. We're going to get together". It's like she could sense the lesbian vibe and it really annoyed me. I hate her.

So, that's my little Kennedy rant.

Kennedy stinks. I mean a lot of the reason why I don't like Kennedy is the fact that I think Willow should be with Tara. I don't see how Willow could go from her to Kennedy, from what she and Tara had to that.

Plus, she didn't even do that "flirting in code" thing. I know what she's talking about and it is fun. But she didn't do that. She came in, she took inventory, she found the lesbian, she decided she wanted it and therefore, would get it.

Willow didn't need another relationship so soon after Tara, and I'd say the same even if Kennedy was actually a likeable character. It's a general problem I have with the show, Joss doesn't seem to think characters can stand on their own two feet for a prolonged period of time, they ALWAYS have to be in a relationship. The only ones excluded from this is Dawn and Giles.

I mean Willow and Buffy are the ones who suffer most from this. I mean it's stupid. Buffy loses the love of her life then a few months later she falls into a serious relationship with Riley. Then the whole Spike debacle starts. Willow loses the love of her life and then falls into a somewhat serious relationship with Kennedy (and let's not forget how quickly she got over Oz).

It's stupid. It's bad writing. And it's quite ironic considering this show is supposedly all about female empowerment.

Okay, I need to breath after that.

I hate Kennedy.

She was so shallow. Horrifically shallow. Paris Hilton shallow.

She was smoking hot, but what else? Not particularly smart, clever, compassionate, witty, funny.... NOTHING!!

I mentioned in another post that although Buffy is smoking hot, her true beauty is found in the inside. Kennedy has absolutely NOTHING inside.

For a show that developed characters like no other show in television history (except the Simpsons), Kennedy is a character with absolutely NO character development. Her "come on" lines sound like a sailor in a bar.

I have no doubt that my beloved Willow would not have been with Kennedy just for a "good time." She's much deeper than that. 😉

Given that Tara and Kennedy has near opposite personalities, I guess if you like one it's almost automatic you will dislike the other.

Me? I'm not a Tara fan. I had nothing against how Amber Benson portrayed her, I just couldn't get into the character. She was like a wet noodle.

Kennedy on the other hand had presence, drive, ambition and spunk. She was probably the only potential that could last 5 seconds in a fight before they all got their superpowers. Yeah, she needed to temper that ego with some humility and restraint. But on the whole I enjoyed this little spitfire.

And, wow, some people don't like the way she looked? I thought she was a babe. But whatever. Different strokes for different folks.

Willow and Tara's relationship was a bit of a milestone, no alcohol, no experimenting an actual on going relationship between two females on a primetime show.
In my opinion Kennedy was possibly slapped in there for the same critical response Tara and Willow had, it was the final season, the last hurrah of a great show so why not? But a second romance just felt a bit stilted and a little too soon, you don't skin someone and then find a new girlfriend who is the polar opposite to your dead lover :\
I dislike Kennedy. She annoys me. I think I just said it in a roundabout sort of way!

I do partly agree with that; especially the relatively fast transition between Angel and Riley bugs me a lot. However, since a major theme of the show is growing up, a large part of Buffy's poor relationship history is about her finding herself, and that process is not completed at the end of season 7. Unlike many other shows, BtVS doesn't end with a couple riding into the sunset, because Buffy is not finished baking yet. "In some areas, wisdom consists of knowing that you are not yet ready." (Roz Kaveny) Buffy is going to find her way to womanhood on her own before she shacks up with the vampire of her choice - I don't think it gets a whole lot more female empowerment-y than that, and despite all the problems I have with Joss's brand of feminism, and much as my shippery heart would have liked to see Buffy ride into the necro-tempered sunset with Angel, I wouldn't change that last tentative smile for the world.

However, I still hate Kennedy. Most obnoxious character in the 'verse, and I don't find her brattishness the least bit appealing.

Hmmm. I've not watched Season 7 for a while, but I didn't particularly dislike Kennedy. I actually quite liked that she stood up to Buffy sometimes- I do agree, she was a little pushy in terms of her relationship to the Scooby gang, but, at the end of the day, she, along with all the other Potentials, was being asked to put her life on the line, and until Chosen, unlike Buffy, she had no superpowers to back her up. I think I'd be questioning the leadership if I thought it was a little dodgy. And she did seem to be a good fighter, putting effort in, helping train the other girls. And then, of course, she got together with Willow, and as has always seemed to happen on Buffy, once one of the core Scoobies gets a boy/girlfriend, they seem to kind of join the ranks themselves.

I do think she was a little bit... not badly written, but not really fleshed out. She was a Potential, she was a spunky, kind of arrogant, flirty forward type (I actually got the feeling she was written to be as different from Tara as possible, so that the audience wouldn't see her as just a Tara-clone, or Tara-Part-2). And that was pretty much it- there were so many Potentials, and so much Spuffy stuff in S7, that, like a lot of the characters, she lacked some character development. Unfortunately, unlike most of the other "main" characters, she didn't have prior character build-up to fall back on.

As far as her relationship with Willow goes... I wouldn't say it's too soon. I mean, after Tara dies (May 7th, according to her grave), and Willow goes Dark-Willow, she goes to the UK to study with the coven. I can't remember if it's ever specified how long for, but I imagine it was several months. When she returns to Sunnydale, some time passes before Giles arrives with the Potentials, and then later she hooks up with Kennedy, after initial reluctance. Bear in mind, that Oz left Willow (heartbroken because he was the love of her life at that point) about a quarter of the way into Season Four (after Halloween, so some point in November, presumably). I'm not sure at what point her and Tara become a "relationship", but even assuming that it's New Moon Rising, that can't be more than 6 months, right?

I'm watching Season 7 for the first time now, and personally? I friggin' love me some Kennedy so far. I can see the haters side of this, but honest-to-goodness, I saw a bunch of Kennedy hating going on and thought she must be the most annoying character ever.

The truth is, from what I've seen so far, Kennedy doesn't seem to have done anything Cordelia hasn't already done (except, of course, the whole Willow relationship thing... unless there's something in the 3 seasons of Angel I've yet to watch, lol). They have both been total jerks, they've both acted as if they are the leaders, or the only ones who matter even though they aren't. Despite having no powers at first, they consider themselves vital to the group.

I love her confidence. I love her wit and dry humor. I love her taking charge. And I know they sometimes show in places they shouldn't, but that's one of the reasons I love her. There's no holding her in.

(I'm still Tillow, though, I don't get how she'll ever get with Will, and I haven't gotten that far yet. 🙂 Don't think it was too soon, though... just not Kennedy.)
