My Personal theory about why the slayer line became unstable!

As far as the knife goes, I always thought it was more or less accepted as a bringer knife, especially after Faith suggests a "First Evil" connection to her prison attack, when she's talking to Willow in the hospital. Why would the writers bring it up if that isn't what they wanted you to think?

There's also the bomb attack on Faith and the potentials in the armory basement. Remember it was a trap set up through the bringer. The First would have known Faith was in charge.

As far as Ally's theory where the order of the two slayer's deaths are important to ending to the slayer line... sounds cool, except for one thing. What about the Scythe? Why does The First want it? There are more powerful weapons on earth. Surely The First doesn't go to all the trouble it does to acquire the scythe just for it's demon killing abilities. We know the scythe can also refocus the slayer line. Wouldn't that be a more reasonable explanation for why The First wants it? Wouldn't he need a slayer to activate it? So why kill them both until he could? If he needs a slayer to activate it, why does he only want Buffy alive?

Yeah this is pretty much what I believe (to the original post).. But it can also be like they both have the line but they both have to die for a new slayer to be called. Like they have the same place in the line now. If Faith dies, no new slayer until Buffy has died. And if Buffy dies, no new slayer until Faith's died. But honestly, I don't think there's really any theory that really works here (except that that one kind of works in my mind but might not to all people, heh)...

Oh, and I just thought of a cool possibility as to why the order of death might be important.

The First also wants a souled vampire alive and corrupted. Perhaps he thinks Buffy is more corruptable than Faith at that point through Spike or Angel.

If the First can corrupt Buffy, or possibly even turn her, he can have access to the full power of the scythe.

Nope. We know this because Willow uses the scythe to refocus the slayer line.

That doesn't mean that is the actual ability of the Scythe. I mean, for all we know it may be one of the possible means of employing the Scythe's powers. Only thing we know is that it was created for a good guy (never stated it should be a slayer) and was used to banish the last real demon.

I'm thinking the First only wanted to Scythe to destroy it, or if that's impossible hide it... or maybe it gives the owner the ability to bake really good chocolate-chip cookies.

exactly. we cant just willy nilly decide on our own interpretations are fact. you're a good poster :)

How do we know Willow uses the scythe to refocus the slayer line?

Because we see her use it to refocus the slayer line. Buffy and Faith can feel the slayer powers in it, and then in the series finale Willow does her spell and uses the scythe.

What does "refocus" mean? I would think it'd mean repair the corruption the FE was going to abuse. That, to me, implies restoring things to the way they were.

However, she used the Scythe to change the rules concerning the Slayer. Remember how Buffy remarks that a few powerful old man created the rules, and now Willow, who's stronger than all of them combined, is going to change them, in her speech to the soon-to-be-slayers!

In my understanding, the slayer-line didn't get fixed, because they abolished the whole system and created a new one, free of any corruptions (for now at least.)

exactly. she changed it not "restored" it.

Well, I can't say what everyone else meant by refocus, but I meant that Willow refocused the slayer line and power from the "one girl" idea to tons of girls all over the world.

Yeah that's what I meant too. Mostly because that's what happens. :)
Maybe she drew strentgh or some kind of mystical energy from the scythe to do the spell, i never quite understood why the scythe could do anything to the slayer line when it has no direct connection to it really, it wasn't even made by the same people

the scyth was made by the guardians, is that right? (i haven't watched S7 for a while.) maybe they used some of the power that was used to create the first slayer? there might have been some left over to create this weapon that was for the slayer, maybe that's how the connection works?

The writers may just be trying to get us to assume the first attacked faith or maybe they didn't really put much thought into it, who knows, but still all i'm saying is apart from faiths suggestion that it was the first there isn't really any evidence to show it was the first. Also the knife isn't a bringer knife, not that matters really afterall a knife is a knife so even if it was the first i doubt he would have cared which knife was used.

There's also the bomb attack on Faith and the potentials in the armory basement. Remember it was a trap set up through the bringer. The First would have known Faith was in charge.

I've also already explained why maybe the first wanted to kill and not buffy and also why not kill faith, shes not really that important on the grand scale of things. Also I think he only wanted buffy alive so she would get the scythe, he obviously thought he could get it back from her. This would explain why caleb all of sudden stopped knocking buffy out and went for the kill once she had the scythe

Yeah thats a definite possibility, but how did they get the excess power afterall we know the shadow men still had it because they still had it in series 7 in that alternae dimension buffy went to

My theory is that the Guardians are in fact ex-Slayers. There's no proof for this, nothing canon would point at this; it's only in my fanfic project. After they're death, Slayers become Guardians and continue aiding humandkind.

Taking this theory, I think there's a clear enough link between the scource of the Scythe (it was forged by Guardians) and Willow's spell.

But then why is there only one left when there's loads of slayers who have died and why didn;t buffy become one when she died?

Yeah, and how could Caleb kill someone who was already dead? Looking forward to Ally's fanfic for the answers.
Well, I admit it's flawed, but just keep reading Virtual Slayer Buffy s9 and Angel s6, we'll come up with a solution sooner or later 😉

Hi Im new : rotate : I totaly agree with you Xin I was thinking the exact same thing, that the reason the slayer line was messed up was because both Buffy and Faith were active Slayersat the same time. Buffy was not an active Slayer after she died in season 1 but when Willow brought her back she was reactivated as the Slayer, it also explains the "its because she lives" thing, because she lives as an active Slayer along with faith!

Thansk for support and hope you have fun here
Looking forward to it, let me know when you come up with an explanation.

I personally think the guardians are connected to the shadow men someway, maybe they where their gir friends lol Personally i think they are the mages who we hear of in fray who made life difficult for the old ones in this dimension forcing them to leave

Also the knife isn't a bringer knife,

Of course it's the same knife. Why is that even a question? Compare the knife in the Angel episode Salvage to the Bringer knife in the Buffy 7 episode Touched. It's the same knife.

They're the same size and shape. The hilt on both is flat, silver, tapers in at the center and is lightly inlaid with gold at the handguard and crown. There are 3 jewels encrusted into the handguard. The center jewel is red, and slightly elevated from the two on either side. You can also see these jewels spinning when Buffy throws a Bringer knife at the beginning of Showtime.

As far as the Scythe goes. The scythe is an integral part in the spell that allows Willow to alter the focus of the slayer line from passing to one specific slayer, into a wider focus of passing to multiple slayers. It's like saying Buffy is blond. We look at the screen, and it's a thing that is.

We don't really want to argue black is white though, do we? Hey I've got an idea. What we need is a more detailed, supported theory explaining why the idea of twin slayers makes sense. We can pick that apart, rather than arguing script facts aren't what they obviously are. Wouldn't that be more fun? Want to see a theory like that? I've got one?

Lets here it then

Don't really understand what your saying about the scythe
