My Thoughts on Season 4

I love this season except for possessed!Cordy, Connelia, and Jasmine. Otherwise it was awesome 🙂

LMAO! I love this post. You love the season except for the biggest parts of it, the focus. Awesome lmao
The singular thing more gross than Connor/Cordy. Besides being gross, it doesn't even make sense, since I doubt beings like The Beast and Jasmine enjoy kissing the way humans do.

Exactly, I just cringe whenever it comes around. The C/C thing had a point at least but that... nah, I can't imagine what went through the head of however wrote that (can't remember who's behind the episode)

I really liked this season. And I've always been a Cordy fan..but by the end of this season, I just couldn't stand her! She played the villian so well, I guess! Way to go, Charisma, because I hated you! It was easy to do, because she doesn't look anything like the Cordy of old. Her hair, her face....everything was so different that it was easy to just curse at her on the tv screen (i really should take meds!).

Overall, the season was pretty awesome and rather exciting!

Must add, that although the cordy/connor thing didn't particularly gross me out....I thoroughly disliked Connor too. Seperately, those two just got on my last nerve!! Connor was so dang whiney...ugh! The actor's a cutey pie...but not what I would expect Angel's son to look like, so that made me dislike the character immediately....it's only tv, so I'm allowed to judge a book by it's cover!! He proved my first assessment right with his bratty behavior!!!

about Conner :)
In my opinion the fourth season is definitely the best season of the show.

I dislike Connor about as much as everyone else, and him and "Cordelia" was disturbing but I actually love what they made of Cordelias character this season because in the previous one she was pretty boring. And her hair was odd..

Angelus, badass Wesley, Faith, Jasmine, Willow's appearance. All great things.

Best episodes: Deep Down, Supersymmetry, Spin The Bottle, Soulles, Orpheus, Shiny Happy People and The Magic Bullet.

Too bad they didn't keep up the good work in season 5...

Agree with what you said. I really liked this season, except for the Cordy thing. And the Cordy/Connor thing. Yuck.

I haven't seen season 5 yet but i liked this one, Jasmine was an interesting concept and well played, Evil Cordy was nicely dislikable and Wesley's marksmanship is amazing! The Faith arc was great and makes more sense of that conversation with Wood outside the Potentials HQ in Season 7 Buffy.

I don't know what i think about the ending. I'll have to see how it pans out. The deal that goes down, I mean. Did Angel not pay any attention to Lindsey? Again with the big decision that cuts across everyone's free will. The thing they had just been fighting for? Seems like W&H have already wrested the victory from them in one smart chess move.

Sigh.

I don't really like this season very much because I think it's just okay, but I love the Faith arc in it as well as Gwen Raiden, Willow, and Weslah. Although I prefer it over season 5, because it was more interesting. Cordy/Connor and Cordy/Jasmine are basically the only things I disliked alot about this season, and I'm also one of the few who never bought the "Connor loved Cordy" thing or "Connor was attracted to Cordy," because I personally think he was just lonely.

Agreed - Connor would have gone with anyone who treated him kindly, though the fact that it pissed Angel off was a motivator too
I'm so surprised in this re-watch how much I really, really liked s4. I think I liked it more than s3 actually. I disliked evil Cordy, although only slightly less than I disliked Higher Power Cordy (so incredibly corny). I wanted to punch Jasmine in the face with all her smiling & laughing <gag>. But she was an awesome villain. The Beast rocked- there were lots of really exciting fight/action scenes this season, and less broody Angel in general. I didn't enjoy Angelus quite as much as BTVSs2. He was great while in the cage, but his dialogue after he got out was lame. It was the writing, not the acting I think. Sigh, I just wish the destruction of Cordy's character didn't have to go along with the awesomeness of this season. 🙁 Why, oh why couldn't Joss have agreed to Cordy being in part of season 5, rather than just stubbornly saying "It's my way or the high way". I would've liked to have seen her grappling with the things she did while possessed by Jasmine (as we have seen other characters have to do).

As for Connor: again I surprise myself by my sympathy for Connor in this rewatch. I went into detail on the Peace Out thread, so I'll just C&P it here.
Yes he annoys me (& sex with Cordy is gross), but I think his attitudes & actions are actually understandable. Holtz raised him in a hell dimension, and passed on all his rage, distrust, & hate to him. He grew up hating his real father. That's not going to change overnight. I'm about to post on the Home thread, but I'll post it here: Angel's decision to erase everyone's memories re: Connor & place him in a real family is understandable. It's the only way that Connor has a shot at a happy life. Whether it works or not is debatable: it seems to, but we just don't get enough of Connor in s5 to know. And I haven't read the IDW comics, so I don't really know what Connor's character development is like there.
And, as much as I dislike Angel messing with people's memories, I think that he believed that it was the only single thing that would truly save Connor. I don't think he realized how bad off Connor was until he saw him in the sports store.

Cordy and Connor was disgusting! Why destroy someone's charrie from 2 shows just cuz the ish got preggo in real life?!!!!

Haven't seen it in a while but I just recall feeling pure rage at how Cordy was used in this season. I mean, for S2 and S3 of Angel, Cordelia to me was one of the most interesting characters in the entire Buffyverse. Her development as a character was pure brilliance to watch. I know it wasn't "truly" Cordy but for me S4 of Angel kind of ruined the evolution of the character that occured during the two previous seasons.

I liked evil Cordy. She was the only Cordy in Angel I believed. Making her into a "pure saint", I just couldn't buy it.

I enjoyed the weird Jasmine scenes very much. "Give me a room, I'll give you my house." The solution Angel found was a little too easy, though.

My only problem with Season 4 was what happened to Cordelia's character. I'm not disgusted by her relationship with Connor. Why should I be? Connor WAS NOT Cordelia's son. And they were pretty close in age by the time of late Season 3/Season 4. Remember - Cordelia had been out of high school for three to four years around the time of the affair with Connor. That's not much of an age difference. So, I find the idea of the other fans' disgust toward the relationship hard to accept. But turning Cordelia into a possessed Goth Queen before killing her off was just a little too much to bear.

I think it was the initial mother figure role that Cordy played for Connor as a baby that unsettled people. I mean for me personally that's one of the reasons why the whole storyline makes me unhappy.

Yes that was a little too over-the-top. Wardrobe, writing and acting were incredibly trite there and they should all feel a little bit ashamed for how that all turned out.
I don't object to evil Cordy, I just think she could have been written far better

How does everyone reconcile the fact that Angel is opposed to Jasmine's plan, but does something similar when he erases Connor from everyone's memory and essentially erases Connor's own sense of self?

I'm not sure how Jasmine's power works either. Does she take away free will or does she just 'mellow' people out?

It's hard for me to fairly judge Season 4, knowing the writers had a gameplan for the season that had to be suddenly altered with CC's pregnancy.

I liked the season until we get up to the Jasmine birth, but once Jasmine comes along I lose all interest. I think the original story line of having Cordy being the Big Bad (instead of merely the vessel for the big bad) and fighting Angel would have been very interesting.

I was never a big fan of Connor, but he's OK.... I liked the whole storyline with him being stolen and taken to that other universe. But then he came back grown up, and was just blah. Sorry, it's been a while since I have watched it! I need to re-watch.

Season 4 was epic. Not in the cool sense of the word epic, but just in its scope and ambition. It may not have made the most sense, and it was very silly at times, but god was it entertaining. I loved it all.

Agreed. Season 4 was just great!!
I really liked how they ended season 4 with Angel taking the deal with W&H in order to give Connor a better life; it probably was the only way for Angel to accept that deal that I would understand. For those who think it was wrong for Angel to have everyone's memories altered, don't forget that by the end of the season Connor was just a shell of a human being who was actively trying to commit suicide by having either the cops kill him or Angel, while taking out a bunch of innocent civilians as well.

Angel gave him what he always should have had; the chance for a normal life. It might've been wrong to do it without talking to everyone first but that's the world of Angel for you, full of grey 🙂

I loved season 4, Cordelia did get cheated but overall the season was fantastic, there was so much going on Wesley coming back, the Apocalypse, Angelus, Faith and the Wolfram and Hart deal. The finale did have me a little disappointed, but the first 3 quarters were so entertaining the last quarter didn't really affect my view. One of the best seasons of Angel, better than 1,2 and 3 in my opinion
