Neil Patrick Harris should be cancelled.

Don't get me wrong here I am NOT despite the title saying I actually want him cancelled. I am against cancel culture in all its forms. However it really pisses me off the way others have been cancelled for so much less, like Gina Carano for instance.

In 2011 Neil Patrick Harris created a cake done up as Amy Winehouse's rotting corpse and posted it online. Here it is, warning it's utterly horrific!

This was just a few weeks after she died!

Meanwhile this is the post that got Gina Carano fired and blacklisted and dropped by her agent!

How on earth, regardless of whatever side of the political spectrum you are on, can you think that Gina deserved to be cancelled and that little creep doesn't? I mean ffs, Gina's at worst is a "this is how Nazi Germany started." Neil Patrick Harris' to me looks as though he is into necrophillia and cannibalism the sick ****er.

Yet Gina gets fired from the Mandalorian, and Neil Patrick Harris gets a gig on the DW 60th? PS I brought this up to Russell T Davies on Instagram, that the Doctor Who fandom and production team have smeared, fired and blacklisted people like James Dreyfus for considerably less than NPH and that if he is allowed to work on the show, they should be. His response? Blocked me within a minute.

THIS is why people hate both cancel culture and woke crap. It's hypocritical, one rule for the elites who look down on us and another for us.

I'll understand if this doesn't make sense to you (it does to me, but my memories of school are solid), but I look at the world and think middle school never ends, especially in hypocritical social dynamics (by peers and authority).
Wow, that is cake is pretty sick!

But I disagree with cancel culture unless it involves something very serious such as physical / sexual abuse or extreme bullying, especially when it happened over a decade ago.

Neil Patrick Harris' to me looks as though he is into necrophillia and cannibalism the sick ****er.

And clearly he not into necrophillia and cannibalism. I dont find it funny but it was obviously intended as a joke.

And people act like taste and sense of humour are objective but they aren't. Just because I find something unfunny or offensive doesn’t mean it actually is. And if someone offends me I can simply choose to ignore that person. I don’t need to cancel them

No disrepect but one of my biggest problems is the number of people who say Well I don’t agree with cancel culture, but if Celebrity A got cancelled then Celebrity B should also get cancelled.
And you end up with people using things as an excuse to get someone cancelled because they don’t like them, or Republicans wanting to cancel a Democrat because a Republican has just been cancelled and vice versa
If people say they don’t agree with it then why would they want anyone to get cancelled. The more it happens the more it will continue to escalate.

Cancel culture is another one of the dumbest slides in our society in the past 15 years.

I do want to highlight… I think there’s a difference between cancel culture and firing due to consequences of breaking the law, especially in cases of physical/sexual abuse.

Cancel culture primarily is done as a reaction to something someone of celebrity says on social media, or grossly taken out of context. For example, the previous Gina Carano firing from her social media post. Or when a picture of a celebrity comes up from 20 years ago, and it’s taken out of context and viewed with a “woke” 2020 lens.

And honestly, I still have annoyed feelings about Lori Loughlin and Felicity Huffman’s cancelation due to the college scandal. They were literally doing what almost every celebrity parent has done in the past. They faced consequences with the law, as they should, but making them out to be monsters because they wanted to ensure their children got into university… not even Ivy League universities at that. It’s just insane to me, because everyone knows rich people do that all the time, but because it’s “Aunt Becky” and “Lynette Scavo,” we should fire them from their shows and shut down the production of their projects—also, disrupting the livelihoods of HUNDREDS of crew members. That’s not Justice.

While I think conversation is important, firing someone and campaigning to ruin their lives and livelihood is not Justice. It’s disgusting.

Sorry but I think you misujnderstood.

The whole point of this wasn't so much to call for him being cancelled, though looking at the title I guess that's what it looks like.

The point was that to show how phoney the people behind cancel culture are. It's not even that they are just oversensitive or fighting for people's rights. They really just like having power and getting rid of people they don't like. Hence why Harris has gotten off scot free, whilst others haven't. I guess the title should have been "by these people's standards he should be cancelled" but that would have been a bit of a mouthful LOL.

I mean take a look at the Mary Sue. They are among the most vicious towards Gina Carano, laughing whenever she is in something bad, putting pressure on Disney to fire her, yet they still promote Neil Patrick Harris all the time?

How the hell can they justify her being fired and this creep not? Either it's all okay or none of it's okay, and since we can't have it all NOT be okay, as then freedom of speech would be dead, then we have to go the other route, which means the Mary Sue, Russell T Davies, Doctor Who fandom and all these other people that cancelled the likes of Gina Carano, James Dreyfu, rescinding their opinions and actions.

However none of them are prepared to do that, hence why RTD blocked me when I brought it up.

Also I'd argue that someone who creates a cake to look like a human corpse and therefore finds it appetizing is at the very least a sick ****

Can we please not make unsubstantiated allegations such as this about people? Also, please remember that this is a family friendly board and refrain from cursing in your posts. It's okay to not like the actor, and to make your point, but there's a better way to do it.

So your solution to cancel culture...is cancel culture?

I don't know how that post about Nazi propaganda could get someone fired and blacklisted. I honestly can't even conceive of what someone could find objectionable about that. Seems like a pretty reasonable thing to say to me.

I certainly don't think NPH ought to be punished, fired, or blacklisted either because of an edgy picture from over a decade ago, which let's face it, isn't even really that disturbing. Maybe it's just my years of Mortal Kombat fatalities, R-rated movies, and death metal album sleeves kicking in, but the details of the human anatomy don't seem all that morbid to me. Probably helps too that I never listened to any of her music.

At any rate, I still fail to see how advocating more mindless mob justice is a solution to mob (in)justice.

It's just possible that the showrunner of a major television program has greater priorities than getting into pointless arguments with strangers on the internet. That's a more likely reason why he ignored you.

The horror...poor rich actors who bought their way into college. It was an honest mistake, really!
C'mon, that is not "cancel culture." I think breaking the law is a perfectly acceptable reason to fire somebody, especially when you're a figure in the public sphere. Nobody wants to be associated with someone like that. It is a natural consequence.

Then fire all of them. They all (generalized all) do it. They still do it. Execs only did that to Lori and Felicity because it was a time of heightened cancelations, and trying to appear woke. The idea of trying to show this new sense of “wokeness” for the sake of popularity or the fear of looking “not woke enough” to an entitled generation of Gen Z and millennials who have far too much time on their hands for social media is ridiculous. (And I want to be clear, my annoyance for the newfound “wokeness” and cancel culture is completely unrelated to my firm belief in the current rise of social civil rights issues. Racism/homophobia/Xenophobia are all abhorrent social crimes.) However, the college scandal crime is so much less severe than say DUIs and Public Drunken Assaults, but how many cancelations due to these crimes have happened?

I mean, a crime is a crime. Whether it’s a big crime or a little crime it doesn’t really make a difference.

What she did is pretty scummy to begin with. Trying to bypass admission guidelines that other people have to adhere to just because you’re “famous” and wealthy is gross and deserves to be called out.

I’m not saying don’t call her out but to fire them from everything and make it nearly impossible to work again (though now Lori is back on the new GAC channel) is a bit much, when many celebs do FAR FAR worse with little consequence.

Now that I agree with.

Cancellation in general is something really unfortunate for creatives. The social landscape changes too much to keep up with, and it just ends up hurting a lot of people for not getting with the times as quickly as Twitter does.

And Twitter is most certainly not always right! Bandwagon cancellation and “wokeness” hurts social Justice reform.

The cake is disgusting and I wouldn't be surprised if NPH was involved in some sick stuff in the weird world of Hollywood; he's been in it since childhood so sadly he was easier to corrupt. It reminds me of "spirit cooking" which is according to some, a satanic ritual... almost like cannibalism-lite. From "artist" Marina Abramovic, she uses blood and occult symbolism and WHO makes a CAKE of a human body let alone a DEAD body? Oh lets cut up this human body/cake so everybody gets used to the idea of eating a person. It's disturbing. To say making a corpse cake of Amy Winhouse is in poor taste would be kind. It's highly disrespectful and disgusting and I personally think there is something much darker to it.MoCA Annual Gala

Oh poor Gina! She only broke Godwin's law to compare the murder of six million people to right wing people not been allowed supremacy. Also she didn't JUST do that she was horribly transphobic when another cast member has a trans relative and has put out Covidiot propaganda which is actually encouraging people to reject solutions that help control it. Meanwhile years ago someone made an edgy cake - at worst he insulted the memory of one person and her family who did die because she was self destructive - it doesn't compare with the insult to the memory of six million victims of a genocide.

If you went to a party where the cake was a decomposing body of Amy Winehouse, you would just think 'that's an 'edgy' cake' ?

I wouldn't think fire this person for trivialising the murder of three million people. Look if I was at someone's party I think I'd know what their sense of humour was like.

Doing something in bad taste doesn’t mean that person should never work again. And on the flip side, neither should making a comment about a slippery slope.

I said this in my original post! I was pointing out their hypocrisy over cancelling other people like Jamesy Dreyfus, Gareth Roberts and Gina Carano whilst working with scum like Harris.
I think Gina’s problem was more that her analogy was unclear to some and it used the Holocaust, which is a very sore subject for a lot of people.

Despite not being a Jewish person myself, that kind of stuff really does hurt to see used as a defense for something lesser. There was a better way to say “hey, being judged for political ideology can be a slippery slope” than to bring up an event in which many, many, innocent men, women, and children died for simply being born.

I don’t think she should have been cancelled for it and reviled by the internet, but I do think that someone should have talked to her about it being somewhat insensitive to a greater issue. Unfortunately, today’s society doesn’t understand moderation or calmly hashing things out, so it turns into a witch hunt.

No, the point is that these guys who have gone around banning, firing, blacklisting people are associating with worse people. RTD and others in his clique have fired people, blacklisted them and smeared them as this and that for sooo much less than NPH.

Similarly websites like the Mary Sue that are lining up to kiss NPH's ass ruined Carano.

They should be called out on this hypocrisy and since they won't cancel Harris, then saying they have to cancel him or shut up, will ruin their credibility.

And honestly how can you think that cake was nothing? You don't have to listen to someone's music to think that creating a cake to look like their corpse a week or so after their funeral, posting it online and pretending to eat someone's rotting, cut up cadaver and showing it off to your mates is seriously disgusting.

And if he had better things to do, why did he block me? I clearly got under his skin Again though RTD is a bully regularly attacking other shows for not being woke enough like Loki. How the **** can he say that and the associate with someone like Harris who has cannibal fantasies?
