Never Kill A Boy On The First Date-Buffy's brief Boyfriend Owen

Owen was never seen again because he wasa so dull , Emily Dckinson:lmao:

As i once read , Owen was that wet that he made Riley Finn look like Spike:asl:

I can't take credit but this but someone once said that Buffy goes for guys with a certain degree of 'Owenosity'.

That is to say guys who have some if not of all of the qualities inherent in Owen:

Shy, bookish and/or intelligent (like Angel, William)

Having an naive adventurous streak (like Liam, Riley and William)

I think the "brooding" quote from Willow is so funny. Buffy sure has a type. And I agree that he probably got eaten since he poofed from the show--maybe literally.

I didn't mind Owen at first. It sure looked like they were setting up some competition for Xander and Angel, but then when he was all giddy about nearly getting killed, I was like "Oy." He wasn't that bad, but I always thought for continuity's sake he should have appeared at least once more in the show.

"you killed my date!"

"Pork and Beans...Poooooooooooooooork and Beans!"

:lmao::lmao::lmao:

The scene with Owen, Zander and Willow escaping the office was hilarious.

Owen was cute, but somewhat of a T00L.

He would've ended up a Vampire Happy Meal for sure.

PORK AND BEANS!!! I LOVE that part!!! LMFAO
With the whole Owen being the human version of Angel, I had never thought about that.
Although I suppose he kinda is 😛

I thought it was funny when Owen lends Buffy his watch and Xander looks at his, and it's tweetie bird lmao
Such a Xander thing.

I loved this episode and how Buffy gets a crush on the brooding Owen but has to break up with him because he wants to be 'danger man'. She almost gets it together with a normal guy with Angel like qualities! Yet it was also a nice touch when Angel at the Bronze slides up to her unexpectedly and you can see her deeper attraction to him. "I was hoping to find you here" Buffy: "You were?" Then she is disapointed that it was just more 'shop talk' and gets back at him by introducing Owen as her date. Owen was a nice guy and Buffy obviously thought so yet he's never mentioned or appears again in the series after that! Unlike Scott Hope and Parker later on...

Oh please. Owen? How about boring as hell? I'm sorry but personally I wasn't sad to see him go at all. It was a good way to show how difficult it would be for Buffy to have a "normal" relationship and that's about it. I guess it did set it up for the kind of guys she seems to be attracted to but as a character and an actor I didn't find him very compelling. Angel on the other hand is amazingly hot, intriging, mysterious, and and did I mention hot? They had an attraction right away. They needed Owen to be one of Buffy's first real crushes so that Angel wasn't the first. In fact, I think it's what spurred Angel to act on his feelings for B. He saw her kiss Owen.

Owen was alright. He was sweet. I was proud of Buffy for giving him up in the interest of protecting him. Very mature of her, and her first romantic sacrifice. Little did we know how much worse what she had to do would be regarding Angel.

I really liked how Giles supported her in the final scene, saying Owen seemed like a "nice lad", and telling her that story about how he had wanted to be a pilot. Poor Buffy. Little did she know how much more difficult her romantic life would get.

Owen wasn't mentioned again for two possible reasons. Most likely, his parents became one of the very few people to, once they found out that there really WERE things lurking out there in the dark, beat a hasty retreat to somewhere less demon populated, Less likely, but still a possibility, Owen had so much fun with Buffy on their first date that he went out the next night all alone and got taken to dinner by a beautiful lady vampire. And he was dinner. Either way, he was no real loss. Just another one of those "dull as a table lamp" losers Buffy seemed to be attracted to before Spike came along and woke up her passionate side.

Never Kill a Boy on a First Date;

The Good;
Great misdirection, you really never figure who the annointed is whilst Vorba is a truly frightening figure. Cordy and Buffy fighting over Owen is FANTASTIC! The fight at the funeral home is also excellent. And how often do you see 'Emily Dickenson' in a US teen show? (almost impresses Giles) The lovely scene between Buffy and Giles at the end. Buffy's green and white dress doesn't make her look fat but does make her look like a brazen hussy. The changing scene with Buffy, Willow and Xander is also funny

The bad;
So, when a vamp disolves why do it's clothes disintegrate and the ring etc doesn't? I always thought the idea was when a vamp dies the body returns to a natural state of decomposition but that doesn't seem the case as even newly made vamps dust.

Best line; (after Cordy knocks the cup over) "Boy, Cordelia's hips are wider than I thought!" OOOOOOOHHHH!
The iconic; "Bite me!"
Cordy upon seeing Angel "Hello salty goodness!" (which are also her first words as an amnesiac in Spin the Bottle upon sighting Angel/Liam)

Observations and questions;
We never see Owen again although he appears in a lot of the establishing shots of Sunnydale High. I guess the show only has room for one brooding loner guy? Check out Willow's expression when she and Xander pretend to be a couple. Also Willow digs Owen which is more grounds to assume she's bisexual rather than just lesbian. Someone actually borrows a book from the library? Giles must have had to sit down with shock. Being a Watcher seems to run in famillies

Good ep, 6 and a half out of 10

Just want to say that I like your posts, keep it up. :)
Oh even then I was TEAM ANGEL so I hoped Owen will go 🙂 but I liked him because he wasn't Cordelia's pet like rest of the boys.He was ok but he was to calm for Buffy.

Owen kinda annoyed me , dnno why but i never really liked him,

i do like this episode though 🙂

I agree, Tasha. There was something about him! I did like the fact he knocked Cordy down a peg or two, but following them to the morgue and then being all 'I want to be action guy' was a bit like 'urgh'.

And I still wonder if Buffy ever so slightly used him. To me, she seemed a little too happy at the fact Angel turned up to see them together! 😛

No I think she, Willow and CC genuinely had the hots for him

I think too that when Owen came up to Buffy and said he wanted to go out again because he didn't realize how almost dying could be so thrilling, it made Buffy think "Frig, all I want is a normal life, and now Owen wants the danger element that i'm trying to get away from"
Idk, I thought having Owen there for one episode was good, but no more than one haha

I liked Owen... I wouldn't have minded him being around for more than a couple episodes. As I've said before, I always thought it was weird how he NEVER appeared again. Continuity error, anyone? 🙂

I suppose he went out thrill-seeking sometime over the next week after this ep and got himself eaten by some creepy crawlie. :hehe:

She can't have done both? I'm not denying she fancied him, but the way she acts when Angel arrives at the Bronze...I'm not convinced that was what it was all about.

LOL But still... Even that could have been worked into the series... Later on, his body could have turned up somewhere and Buffy and the gang could have been working to solve his murder and catch the baddie instead of someone else. 🙂
