Never Kill A Boy On The First Date-Buffy's brief Boyfriend Owen

I think it would have been good to have had him appear occassionaly. I thought that he was a strange person and couldn't see what the girls saw in him, but then I'm a male so wouldn't understand.

Another scenerio would have been him coming back as a vampire stalking Buffy for a programme.

So we're just watching this episode in BBtv and it just occurred to me that Owen IS Riley. lol. Obviously not actually the same person but I think they are really similar. They're whole 'gentleman' manner towards women, well Buffy, is so similar. They kind of both have the 'good ol' American boy' feel about them.

I like the connection but can't quite make it myself. I thought Owen was a great character and wished that they bought him back, maybe as a Vamp who protected Buffy (only one episode would have done it). Owen was a mild mannered person a bit on the geek side, whereas Riley was always trying to be butch and one of the gang.

Huh? You think Riley was doing this but can't see Owen doing that too?! That's why Buffy never saw him again because that's exactly what he wanted to do. Owen was trying to prove he was butch by going to the funeral home in the first place.

I don't actually agree that that is what Riley did at all. I think he was always quite separate from the rest of the Scoobies - Giles wasn't told about him, he found out for himself; he leaves the Core Four to their move night in 'Restless' and more importantly he's show quite frequently with his own friends which neither Angel nor Oz, nor Tara actually, are ever shown so out of all the love interests I think Riley was happy not to be part of the gang.

I also don't think Owen was that much of a great character. I think he was a bit of an ass and I'm glad they didn't bring him in again, like BS said, he was a throwaway character used to go 'oh, look Buffy can't be with a human, they'll never understand BUT a vampire with a soul...'
