New Buffy Movie Official Discussion Thread #2

Naw, sorry, my point there was that the Kuzui's own the rights to movies and if he was interested in making a movie he shoulda woulda coulda bought those rights as well.

🙂

As I understand it, the Kuzuis were not offering the movie rights for sale. And if they were, Joss probably still couldn't have afforded to buy them back then.

Well, then, they have every right to make the movie.
I can tell you right now that Megan Fox won't be Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

She's already associated with one big franchise and if the Kuzuis get their way, Buffy will be another - she's too much in demand to be tied to two franchises.

Who was that girl that was in 8 Simple Rules?
I think she would be quite fun in the role.

Doesn't she do Big Bang Theory or something (never seen the show, but I saw an ad) - I could see her playing Buffy.

Ohh and doesn't she have like supernatural experience?
She was in Charmed I think!

I haven't seen her work in Charmed, but I loved her in 8 Simple Rules. I think she would make a cute Buffy if they decide to do the whole teenager thing.

I haven't seen her in Charmed either - but then its Charmed. All I would say is judge her on other stuff, not on starring in that. I do think she'd be a good Slayer
Megan Fox would be way too expensive right now for a Vertigo-type budget. Check back with her in three years or so when she's doing "I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here."

Clearly, the only one with the gravitas for this role is... Miss Pixie Lott.

Buffy Summers agrees: Well, then, they have every right to make the movie.

Every legal right? Perhaps. Trademarks are a funny thing. Quite separate from copyrights, which is what the Kuzuis own.

I'm sure all the lawyers will do what they feel is in the best interests of their employers and their paychecks.

Ooh...I like her look...she could be just as cute a brunette!

With a name like that, playing a character named "Buffy" would require no acting at all. (She's kinda cute, though)

Question:

Does whoever reprises the role HAVE to be blond and small?

I would think that the less the new girl tries to match up with Sarah in the role, the easier her job would be. It's gonna be a complete reboot anyhow, why not make the character a tall slender brunette? Or a short dumpy red head? Or a shaved head punk girl with tattoos from her collar bones to her ankles?

I couldn't agree more!
Question:

No. The next one should be a militant lesbian feminist, formerly of the East German women's wrestling team: 6' 5", 300lbs. and very muscular. :lmao:

I'm inclined to think this "reboot" (God, how I hate that word!) has DISASTER written all over it.

I always thought it was about empowering women. That the blonde, cheerleader, bimbo aspect was just to add to the comedy factor...

The point of the character and show was always to push the perceived notions, we all have.

Every facet of the characters was manipulated by Joss to give full effectiveness.

Do you really believe that Joss, with all he apparently did (and continued to do in the show) to such painstaking levels, would have something like the blonde bimbo cheerleader valley girl prom queen as a joke?

Joss is nothing if not meticulous in his planning - thats evidence from the fact he planned seasons years in advance.

I would also go on to say its that defining characteristic that initially sold people like the Kuzuis on the idea - otherwise it was just another female superhero.

I didn't really mean that SHE was a joke. Just that her attitude, verbiage and flakiness was meant to make us laugh. My point was just that I believe I read it was about female empowerment in general not just the empowerment of the ditzy blonde against any steriotype... since he is a known feminist. It may be what helped seal the deal but surely not the only point he wanted to make. This is a chance for them to take it another direction is all.

Don't know if this has been posted but for those of us that haven't seen it I just stumbled across it looking for something...

And I meant that her 'attitude, verbiage and flakiness' was all part of the character - does it really sound like Joss Whedon when you suggest something so pivotal about her character.

You want to show the female empowerment, what type of female are you gonna do?

Joss tackles them all(in the show), but the first one that comes to mind when you ask a person to stereotype a woman is the dumb blonde. You wanna write a story where you turn on its head the ultimate stereotype, you take a woman from a world where she is like that and show that she isn't a 'dumb blonde'.

I don't even know why we're having this conversation, seems to me that Joss 'Mr Meticulous Planner' Whedon, wouldn't leave any of the things you suggest in as a joke, when its somewhat crucial to the story he wanted to tell.

I'm not going to fight with you for three pages over this. This thread has enough of that. I'm simply saying, going back to what we posted on by WA, that Joss isn't involved now and it's already been established so why rehash the old movie when there's an opportunity to take it in a new direction? I would like to see them do something completely new with it including the character. The rest has been done. Just my opinion. But if they're just going to redo the original movie I can stay home and watch the old one. But I agree with you on the fact that we shouldn't even be talking like this about it when we don't know what they're planning. But hey, if there were any credibility to the Megan Fox rumors, and I think she would look terrible as a blonde, then they aren't really stuck on that factor anyway.

Eliza on the Buffy movie.... and other stuff:

With fan rebellion worldwide against the purported Joss Whedon-less “Buffy,” ex-vampire slaying actress Eliza Dushku said being asked about the reboot is something she’s gotten familiar with in recent interviews.

“I go to Joss’s parties. I’ll just leave it at that,” Dushku told MTV News.

Dushku, who played Faith in Whedon’s “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” television series and its subsequent spin-off “Angel,” expressed no interest in the film or reprising her character in it, though she was not approached like “Buffy” creator Whedon was. With fan interest echoing the same sentiments, it seems like the only people who have interest in the film are oblivious moviegoers and “Twilight” fans looking for an Edward Cullen fix.

Howza 'bout Hayden Panettiere? She's got the goods to do the character right, IMNSHO. 😀

Ugh. I really hope they get Megan Fox out of this project.

What if, like, Eliza Dushku were to play Buffy? 😛

I don't know how old the Megan Fox info is, or how true it is, but I'd hate the project even more if she was cast as Buffy. A few girls I know go crazy for Megan Fox; "she's so hot, sexy, I love her, oh my God", but not in a lesbian way even though sometimes they get into very sexual territory when talking about Megan Fox. What bugs me even more is if I say something to one of those girls about how I like Ben Affleck, they think I'm weird. What gives? What's so great about Megan Fox? Her lack of talent?
