New Buffy the Vampire Slayer Movie in 2018

use same actors and actress as sane characters, but with different back story.

Except for Masters and DB because of the whole ageing thing with Vampires. And there maybe a issue with SMG too because it maybe stretch to believe that someone in their mid-late 30s would still be going strong as the Slayer. Chances are it would be recast anyway which I think is a shame.

Use the same actors playing the same characters, but tweak the reality a bit (maybe make Sarah a Watcher, and bring in a new girl to play the teenage Buffy) In a different reality (like what was done with the new "Star Trek" movies) it would be totally irrelevant that James and David looked older.

Of course, we still have to get past the major hurdle of convincing the original cast to return...

I do like your idea. That could work.
This looks sadly like something they'd come up with though...I hate modern tv.

What do you mean it's a spoof? Its got a release date, a poster and an IMDB link. You mean it's a spoof like the Scary Movies or Vampires Suck or Not Another Teen Movie? I mean, Buffy was always a comedy so I could see where a spoof could work. And Moretz was funny AF in Neighbors 2 so I could see it working.
Well I mean Buffy did make a small cameo on Vampires Suck. That scene made me chuckle.
You think it do well on Netflix ? Also thanks for answering me back 😀
If Joss wanted to do it then Netflix would give him the creative freedom which he would struggle to get from a major TV studio. That way there would be less of a risk of the show bombing too. A new Buffy would be harder sell too a modern audience.

I agree with you there on Nexflix.
Been there, done that, move on.

There is far more creativity in engineering or the sciences or particularly mathematics than there is in the "creative arts". If something is going to attract my attention, it has to be new. I would like to see a new story and a new universe with new rules. Buffy succeeded because it had all of that - a new universe with new rules, new characters that went against the standard tropes (such as the small blonde girl who was certain to die at the hands of the monster in every previous story). Angel had the demonic law firm with leadership from the satanic "senior partners" and an interdimensional presence. Star Trek and Star Wars created new universes and became hugely successful. The tractor beam, the transporter, the replicator, sub-space radio communication faster than light and existence without any economic necessities were big parts of Star Trek's success because they were new concepts. Star Wars also created a different universe that built on the success of Star Trek.

A Buffy rehash? I don't put retread tires on my car and I don't put retread stories on my screen.

I think if they do a Buffy the Vampire Slayer it should be set in the series future . Cast entire new people for roles & have it set 10 -15 years later after the show ended . That way you could have it in modern times without redoing anything . That way it be something new while building on the old series . You could have the characters name drop the original characters names a few times so the old time fans get a kick out of that while the new fans aren't left hanging .Of course Joss will do what he wants .

What would be the point of continuing the series with new characters and having none of the old characters in it? You might as well just reboot it.

If it were possible i'd just like them to do a season 8 of btvs with the original cast..it would be pointless to just do a complete redo of seasons 1-7 with a new cast, they'll never top the original seasons.

they'll never top the original seasons.
They could easily top the original seasons. But it would be difficult to compare the two as the world is such a different place now than it was then. There was, for the majority of the series, a naivete both about it (the show) and the world; both of which are now gone. Neither the TV shows nor the world are naive innocents any longer. But as far as quality, storytelling, worldbuilding and series mythology a reboot could certainly top the original. Without a doubt in my mind.

I tend to think that something like the X-Files would be more suitable for a reboot. The format is easier to update than Buffy. Not saying I wouldn't watch a Buffy reboot, but IMO the original is pretty much perfect as it is and there's nothing more to add.

As long as they had a decent budget the 'special effects' would be far better too.....The only question would be over the quality of the acting.....

I can't imagine acting would be that much of a problem. Not many of the cast had real acting experience and it's evident, especially in the earlier seasons. Even cheaply produced, one-season shows have some good acting in them nowadays. Granted, some have really bad acting also, but I can't imagine finding serviceable actors would be that much of an issue.

I think getting that brilliant dialogue just right and finding a good balance between action, funny and campiness are the major problem.
That's what makes Buffy stands out for me anyway.

The world and the mythology can easily be done again and probably even better imho.

/SK

The dialogue I think would be the hardest thing to replicate. It would probably have to be tonally different.

I agree. A reboot would do wonders for the show . They have a lot of background for the show so they could build on it slow like & people would be look up stuff so they would not feel left out as I see it.

It not sure they going to do it . What would be nice would be if they remade the original movie since that way it could be so much better.
