I think its more like look at Corey Feldman and look at Erin Moran and look! there's Nicky somewhere in between.

see i dont knoww who erin moran is and i know cory feldman career has been over since the 90s. yes he could have a career like corey feldman, B movies, a cameo in an episode in a tv show, reality star.

yes, i was thinking of him when i wrote that and was gonna explain why his case was different, but i didnt. Robert had a bigger career and was beloved by hollywood types, kind of like heath ledger. I dont remember robert having violent episodes or being perceve nuts during his run.

If I remember correctly at the height of his drug problem he couldn't get any work and nobody wanted to take the chance employing him. It was only a lucky break when Elton John asked him to appear in a music video that his career started to move forward again.

That's not quite right. At the height of his drug problem he was still consistently working; the Elton John thing was after he was sober.

Thats not quite right either. 🙂

"Starred in Elton John's music video for the song "I Want Love." Downey was let out of rehab for one day in late July specifically to shoot the video (which was filmed in one long continuous take at Greystone Manor in Beverley Hills.) It was Downey's first work since being fired from the TV show Ally McBeal (1997) in April 2001."

I don't think they would let him out of rehab to film a music video if he wasn't sober.. lol..

They let Robbie Williams out to shoot his music video for Angels too, it happens
I don't think Nicholas Brendon and Robert Downey Jr. are comparable. Or Corey Feldman or whoever else. Every addict can function well, or not function well, while high or drunk. Everyone is different. Whether you can rehash your career or not while an addict, or an addict in recovery, is just sheer luck I think.

Yeah, alcohol addiction is a weird thing - it utterly destroys some people but some seem to be able to manage it. My aunt was a hard-core alcoholic, no job and so on, she more or less drunk herself to death, died in her 50s. Her husband - almost died from alcohol poisoning and general alcohol-induced organ damage. He still drinks, just in a saner way, a beer instead of a bottle of vodka or so. Another uncle manages his addiction - he has a job, or used to have - he retired, and though he can be an ass when he's drunk he never gets violent. Still, years of drinking obviously affected his personality. Then there's this guy, he's a friend of a family though I used to call him uncle when I was a kid. He used to stay drunk for weeks, as in, in a period of 20 or so days this guy wouldn't be sober for a minute. Got a therapy, has been sober for good 25+ years now.

So there's that.

I'm sorry, but his Twitter picture is a PERFECT explanation of why he doesn't want help yet and it's a joke to him. He made a joke about going to a halfway house. It's not funny.

Alcoholics crack the worst jokes. I should know.

He clearly uses humour to detract from the situation. It must be a survival technique for him - another flawed part of his addict personality to ensure people like him, because he is just so hilarious.

Understand.. and there is a difference between using humor to detract from the situation and then using humor to thumb your nose at fans who are hoping you get help. I honestly was happy when I read he was going to a halfway house, only to see it was a restaurant he was going to eat. It is like an FU to people saying he needs help, in my opinion.

I just thought that was the saddest thing I'd ever seen. He is just not there yet where he really realizes he needs help. He still thinks he's fine.
What is just as sad is the amount of people wishing him luck, etc, because they took his post at face value that he was going into a halfway house.

Well, people don't read nowadays. But also, this is why he is being out there with all this, so he gets attention and can feel like a celebrity again.

Like I said, a flawed part of his personality. The guy obviously craves attention from fandom and media. It possibly goes back to the issues from his childhood, and alcohol and drugs only aggravate it and make it worse.

Yes... especially when he says (paraphrasing) I will be at this convention, come up and hug me. Please.

well.. well.. well.. well here we are again i guess it must be fate, we tried it on our own but deep inside we've known we'd be back to set things straight. (love that song)

So he wants fans to hug him😵. You know, i think people should start ignoring him especially when he goes to these conventions, just imagine, fans giving him the silent treatment and walking away from him, too cruel?.

It's probably what he needs, but who knows what the effect would be. It just reinforces his need to be treated as a celebrity. He needs to somehow see that he won't get work until he's sober, so getting clean is the only way to get what he wants.

But sadly his fans don't care about him that much. They would rather pose for his picture and get his autograph and say 'hope you feel better' all while reinforcing his negative behavior. They are enablers, honestly.
