I just want to say, from what I understand, Pakistan can't be considered as one country with one government. It's incredibly divided. There is a democratic government, but there are vast swathes of the country where their rule is in name only. It's not infeasable that the people co-operating with the US genuinely did not know where he was, while the people who have taken charge of the area did. That's why it's been so easy for Al Qaeda to operate from within Pakistan.

Someone help me understand why Entertainment Tonight is reporting on this...sandwiched in between Dancing with the Stars and The Royal Wedding (yes they are STILL talking about it) they showed a bunch of pictures of Osama, the bloody room, and some celebrity reactions. Seriously. But hey, at least they got Osama's name right...better than some "real" news.

Kinda weird but I don't have an opinion on this.

When 9/11 happened I was in school and someone came into our class and announced it, everyone was shocked, and I was the one in the corner asking what a Twin Tower was, and because I had no personal connection and I didn't watch the news, (I actually found it kinda annoying that it was the only thing that was on TV - now that im slightly more of an adult, that seems really stupid), I never felt that connection other people did (people who weren't directly affected)

But when I heard about him being killed, I think it's kinda weird to celebrate someone’s death, that seems kinda gross. And the eye for an eye thing seems childish.

And I think if you think about it logically for a country that would seem to be above an 'eye for an eye' type approach, it seems crazy that they let it happen.

BUT

Dude, totally had it coming, and logic rarely has a place anywhere.

So I think I kinda agree with HisMrs, you can say it affected you, but I would think (just going off my own experience and opinion) you'd have to had been effected to actually get it.

When I hear stuff like this I always think of 24, you have Jack who does whatever he wants and you have the government who have a set of rules, the rules that make total sense as to why there, and because you’re on Jacks side, your rooting for him to torture the guy, and glaring at the guys that give out to him afterwards.

You have logic, which makes sense, but with any kinda connection, you couldn't give a crap about the logic.


Just want to edit this to make it clear:
Im not saying people who were affected don't get it, I'm saying I wasn't affected, so don't get it, but do get that if I was affected I may want to celebrate it.

I think one reason I am so haunted by the events of 9/11 is because I was literally there one month before, to the day. On my last weekend off from the summer camp I was working at, some friends and I went into the city. We spent a lot of time at the WTC, shopping and eating breakfast in the courtyard there. When I was watching the news that day, I kept thinking "Was that the man I stood next to in the elevators? Did they get those kids out of that daycare?" I kept thinking that if they had decided to do it one month earlier, I would have been there, running with those people, because the timeframe it happened in is exactly when my friends and I were there. Also, two of my girls that were my charges that summer lost relatives in the attacks, and talking to them about what they went through that day shakes me to the core. So I guess I kinda feel a sort of empathy for the victims of the day, and what the people of NYC went through.
Plain and simple, I don't care who you are, Bin Laden was a monster. He deserved to be killed. He exercised absolutely no mercy and no respect for any of his victims so he doesn't deserve any in return.

I know this is kinda dragging up an old-ish post but I actually found out today that "Usama" is also a correct way to spell it because there's not a direct translation from Arabic to English for that vowel sound. On the FBI's wanted list, he was listed as "Usama".

I kind of feel the same way Flannen does because I wasn't happy or upset when I heard about this on the news. Osama Bin Laden killed thousands of innocent people in horrible attacks like 9/11, and he shouldn't have been running around free since he was a dangerous man. And I understand that he was shooting at the American soldiers and he ended up getting himself shot to death because of that. Although I don't think killing someone is ever the right thing to do, I don't think there was another option besides letting him go free.

However, I don't believe that killing someone is something to celebrate whether they're a terrorist or not. And I'm not trying to offend anyone here or insult them if they strongly disagree with my post, because I respect everyones opinions. I'm just against killing and I don't think it ends problems, especially the ones going on the Middle East right now. In fact, I think that the Al-Queda members will try to get revenge and cause more trouble because of what just happened. But that's just my opinion.
