From Much Ado About Buffy The Vampire Slayer

FROM BENEATH YOU, IT DEVOURS - There's a giant worm on the loose in Sunnydale, and Spike's back to help (or maybe it's to hinder). Willow prepares to head home from England, though reluctantly. Buffy starts her new job at Sunnydale High, Xander is having trouble getting back onto the dating scene, and Anya's back to her old vengeance game. Nick Marck directed the episode written by Doug Petrie.

Spike's blue top was awful! *Hides*

I liked how the rape story was dealt with. Anya was great! *lol* I love her hair too!

I didn't really see how the first bit fit in though... I'll have to watch it again. OOOOOOHHH nooo I remember 'From beneath you it devours...' *lol* I just know I spelt something wrong there too.

I enjoyed this episode. *Nods*

Yeah, there are so many things I enjoyed in this episode. The scene in the Bronze where Nancy comments about them all seeming to have slept with each other, and Xander and Spike exchange that look - lmao.😀

I'm pretty sure I know what the scenes at the beginning of this weeks ep and last weeks are all about but I'll wait to see if I am right or not.😉

Despite the events of last season, I actually felt for Spike, she truly screwed with his mind, well actually she just did alot of *cough* you all know where I'm going! 'lol' Having his soul back hasn't helped, and I maybe it's all the hormones raging through my body, being pregnant an' all but I actually cried at the end scene between Spike & Buffy. I'm not saying that she deserved, by any means, Spike trying to rape her but I can see why he was drove to it. I think even Buffy must have been feeling for him, seeing as though she was shedding tears too. Haven't got a clue where they will go from this but it'll be interesting to watch.

At least we have Willow facing up to coming back to Sunndydale, and I'm looking forward to how the others are going to react to her, and how she will be with them as well.

I've left out loads but I still have tons from this and Angel going through my head at the moment, so I suspect that this will probably not be my only post on this thread! 😀

I loved this ep!

Another strange opener, but the German girl had a very cool look and "from beneath you it devours" is very interesting. I get the feeling along with Hallie's comment last week that something major is coming. I also think that Ronnie was a red herring to the beneath you bit and that the threat is a whole lot more serious.

Also, as Buffy is dreaming of these girls I presume they are linked to the Sisterhood of Slay! As far as I can remember she hasnt had dreams of others in danger before (isnt that Cordy's job! lol). Usually Buffy's prophetic dreams are linked to her and the immediate danger around her and Sunnydale.

I was worried how Anya would fit in in Season 7 but she was perfect tonight, every line she spoke worked and I loved hers and Spike's fight. More Anya!!

Spike - weirder and weirder. I like how we are made to feel sorry for him yet at the same time want him to suffer for what he did to Buffy. The last scene was very well done as it brought both of these emotions up for me. It was good to see Buffy crying - maybe there is hope for these two.

Dawn again was brilliant, from her 'don't embarass me speech' to Buffy in the car to her threatening of Spike. I'm really enjoying what Michelle Tractenberg is doing with her character so far, it's hard to believe she is the same Dawn!

Talking of cool car scenes, I thought Xander was very sweet when talking about Buffy's new job and how she was always helping him.

Can't wait for Willow to get back - next week should be interesting!

Two episodes in and already two new characters I want to see more of!! First Kit and now Nancy. I liked her - shame she probably wont call Xander as he noted!

I know we are only just beginning the season but I'm loving every minute! Can't wait to see more!

WOW!I'm glad I haven't read too many spoilers......I was watching thinking:"good ep,special effects a bit ropey, but a good ep nonetheless",but the last five minutes.......Awesome!!From Spike almost taking his pants off to *worship* her to him draped on the cross, sublime!!!I think for the first time we saw exactly how Spike sees Buffy, not as a woman he's obsessed with but as his chance of redemption, very moving.......This could be my favourite scene ever. From the writing, where Spike "shed buckets of salt(ooo-er) at your .........ending",the acting(well done to SMG for letting JM do his thing),the content, the subtext, the whole religious underlining, just brilliant!!!Well done to everyone involved(not forgetting the music),just well bloody done!!Excuse my gushing.......::huh1:: ,LOL.......

I have 2 words... GREAT EPISODE!

The last 5 minutes were fantastic and the rest of the episode was to. The part where they are all in the Bronze saying about who slept with who was hillarious!ANYA
Hey, hands off the merchandise. Spike, you don't get to go there again.

SPIKE
Please. I've already forgotten about our little time together.

NANCY
I thought you were Xander's ex-girlfriend.

ANYA
I am.

NANCY
But you and Spike...

ANYA
Had a thing.

SPIKE
Didn't last.

NANCY
But weren't you Buffy"”

SPIKE
Briefly.

BUFFY
Never serious.

NANCY
Is there anyone here that hasn't slept together?

Xander and Spike exchange a glance and then look away from each other too quickly. Spike rolls his eyes.

I thought it was brilliant. Quick reactions to everything or what. Interesting episode aswell. "From beneath you, it devours" - good little rhyme to add to the collection. Great episode and I will DEFINATELY be watching it again.

It woz gud, the Series is better than Series 6 anyday, it's goin bck to S1,2,3 again woo hoo
Felt sorry for Spike!

Great final scene. Have to say, I don't catch half of what Spike mumbles on first viewing, so I'm glad of the transcripts/shooting scripts.

I am really puzzled though by Spike's implication that getting his "spark" back was a deliberate act. Season 6 made it pretty clear that so far as Spike's deal with the disembodied voice went, he didn't know he got soul - it was a surprise to him, he was definitely looking for chip removal.

SPIKE: Bitch thinks she's better than me. Ever since I got this bleeding chip in my head, things aint been right. Everything's gone to hell-

VOICE: And you want to return. To your former self...

SPIKE: Yeah.

I'll accept you can stretch this to both Spike and voice talking about returning a soul if you really try (even though his "former self" in this sense was a human, not an Angel vampire+soul combination, and the unchipping fits much better.) But then....

VOICE: You were a legendary dark warrior - and you let yourself be castrated. And you have the audacity to crawl in here and demand restoration?

See, it's quite clear here that the voice knows that what Spike is asking to be restored is his status as dark warrior, not as a good man.

So... is it part of Spike's delusions, or are we seeing a ret-con? Because despite some effort I can't make his words in "Beneath You" match the same interpretation.

BUFFY ... Tell me what happened.

SPIKE: I tried to find it, of course.

BUFFY: Find what?

SPIKE: The spark. The missing... the piece that fit. That would make me fit. Because you didn't want...

If you're generous, the piece here could be the thing that makes him the Big Bad, a role where he fits. And arguably he thinks Buffy wanted him out of the confusing moral grey area too.

But...

BUFFY: Why? Why would you do that"”

SPIKE: Buffy, shame on you. Why does a man do what he mustn't? For her. To be hers. To be the kind of man who would nev"” to be a kind of man. She shall look on him with forgiveness, and everybody will forgive and love. He will be loved.

No, sorry, can't stretch that to cover seeking a chiporectomy.

I'm left with something crazy such as the soul-restoring demon being in cahoots with / identical to the First Evil all along, and the restoration being an get-Angel-out-of-Hell style move to bring someone apparently good back but make them do something bad, so, see, he's becoming a dark warrior again after all. Either that or the something crazy is a Spike who is so far gone that he does not remember his original motivations even when the plot demands it.

Anyone else find all this a bit strange/inconsistent right now?

--Anthony.

Yeah, that was a really cool ep! I hope Nancy comes into the season again sometime! And, poor Spike! 🙁

I know this is kinda late cause this ep was shown ages ago but I really loved it. It was so funny when Nancy asks "Is there anyone here who hasn't slept together?" and spike and Xander give each other that look! The Buffy/Spike issues were great to, I love them two so much!
