Official Discussion of 7.20 "Touched" (UPN-US)

I think that the reason they followed Faith this time is because she had some evidence of truth behind what she was leading them there for (i.e. the Bringer told them about the arsenal). She wasn't just jumping to conclusions (albeit correct conclusions)like Buffy was. She had a plan...and she didn't take the whole group with her, so they'd all die.

i really liked this episode! and i agree with a lot of what Leeloohb wrote.

i've never been in agreement with a buffy and spike relationship, but after this episode, i finally see it.

the bringer's armory was super dark and i would have like to see the action better but the flashlights flailing about was cool, visually.

i hope we get to hear what buffy wrote in the note she left for spike. i'm curious to what it says. and i was so happy to see buffy all rejuvenated and witty again. i loved the duality of both slayers discovering something at the same time and of course, i always enjoy cliffhangers! and i'm glad that in btvs, they mix it up a lot and have so many types of episodes.

can't wait for the kaboom! (oh yeah, and i don't hate faith and her girly posse but at that moment i was like "ahhah!" when they showed the bomb. heh)

well if any people are going to get killed or hurt in the bomb blast it will be Faith (i think, dont know)... she was right next to the box! how far can they run in 8 seconds? not very... did you see them all squashed in that little room. and did you see how many explosives were in that box!?!?! my my this is gunu be a brain teezer till next tues!
 
I loved seeing Buffy's 'vulnerable' face again. I missed it. Sometime even the slayer needs someone to hold her and tell her everything is going to be fine. I didn't mind the sex scenes too much, it's a quick way of illustrating the whole 'end of the world' theme.

I laughed my ass off when Spike said about Faith 'Just say the word and she's history'. Sometimes I have to be reminded that Spike isn't intimidated by slayers. He's one tough hombre, and I think he'd have a pretty good shot at taking her if he tried. Not that I'd like him too; I like Faith's character. Faith may be a vampire slayer, but Spike is a slayer-slayer.
 
The weapon is indeed the scythe from Joss' Slayer comic, Fray. I haven't read the comic, but I guess if anyone wants to know what it does they could go pick it up.
 
the comic might be tough to find... most of it came out last year, and i think #6 came out recently (it's a series of 8)

it's cool, it's got the shamans that made the first slayer and stuff. i just read it again so i can clarify:

in the future:
a "few centuries" ago a slayer, possibly along with some friends/mages fought an apocalyptic war, but by the end of it all demons/vampires etc were gone. in the pictures they show them getting shut in another dimension, it looks like. since then slayers have still been called but they havent been trained since there hasnt been demons etc around to fight... until now.

Jacklyn - That makes sense. They told Buffy they wanted evidence before they put their necks on the line, and I can respect that. However, they still didn't end up safe with the confirmation of something important being at the vineyard. I just hope that the SIT's recognize this!!
 
First off, I love spike. That speech to Buffy about how much she means to him was absolutely beautiful. It completely summed it up perfectly. And I thought it quite appropriate that they didn't do anything (i.e. sex, kissage, making out). He knows she doesn't love him, but he's ok with that as long as she is alive.

Great episode for Andrew although he wasn't in it much. The I Spy game was amusing, but I was very intriqued by his talking for the Bringer. Tom Lenk just impresses me more every episode with his acting.

Faith is doing well as leader I think. There's still some problems, but no plan can be foolproof. Now to the bomb thing... that just sucks. I'm very curious to see what happens with that

The fight scene was pretty cool. and that weapon looked pretty cool too.

Next week should be awesome. I can't wait

Again with the I love Spike thing.

yeah, his speech in the kitchen was great 🙂 yeah, i don't understand why they needed to lie---was it because they know that spike always supported buffy and her decisions and perhaps they needed him on their side if they were to go ahead in this little war?
 
The bomb in the box thing is so cliché; I hope it vaporizes the lot of them (not that I have any thing agenst the characters, I just don't want to sit through an other slow motion run and dive for cover seen)

The rest of the ep. rocked though, I almost fell out of my chair when Andrew said "holy bananas". And I got a tingle when I saw that ax/spear/sword/thing/I don't know.
 
the scythe thing is cliché too.. it's a sword-in-the-stone thing, to the tee.

i bet only buffy or faith can pull it out. geez.

I kinda liked this episode, my biggest issue is all of the sex in the episode, while I certainly have nothing against love-making on tv, i think shows like Buffy should shy away from it. but that has nothing to do with the episode its self and more to do with the writing. As for the episode, I came away with 2 things, first it was good to hear someone finally stick up for Buffy, good ol Spike.

2nd was how the first came back to visit Faith as the mayor, I was a fan of his when he was on and it was good to see him again, I think when Faith sent spies to watch Buffy it was not to see if Buffy is allright but rather to keep an eye on her, the mayor got into Faiths head.

And finally for those of us who supported Buffy you can see clearly that Buffy was right all along, while Faith lead them into what looks like a pearl harbor, but I suspect that it looks worse then it will end up being.

Mmmdonuts, I think you might be misreading Fray a little. It says that the last slayer--who may or may not be Buffy--faced demons in a battle, and when the battle was done, the demons and the magicks were gone. An accompanying picture shows a woman's hand being closed off in some kind of hell-dimension, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's Buffy. A little transcription:

"Why don't you tell me what happened to the last one [the last Slayer, that is]?"

"Because I don't know. It was some hundreds of years ago, in the twenty-first century. What we know is this--there was a battle. A slayer, possibly with some mystical allies, faced an apocalyptic army of demons. And when it was done... they were gone. All demons, all magicks, banished from this earthly dimension."

"And the slayer? Did she..."

"I do not know if she lived. But, the demons being gone, she was the last to be called."


(That transcription is precise; nothing is left out; the ellipses are Joss Whedon's not mine, they do not indicate places where text has been cut.)

So there is some lexical ambiguity. I can see how it could be read as saying that the slayer and pals were banished to a hell-dimension, but personally I take "And when it was done... they were gone" to mean that the _demons_ were gone, that demons and magic were gone, and the slayer et al might have gone on with their lives but nothing more is recorded in the histories.

I really enjoyed that episode...especially how supportive Spike was. I also liked how when Faith took charge of the group, she didn't slack off like the Potentials expected her to. It was very nice.

It was also pretty cool when Buffy found the scythe. She looked happier than she's looked in a long time...
 
yeah i guess it could be buffy or not.. but you know.. twenty first century.. i dunno. maybe joss did that so he wouldnt spoil buffy watchers LOL

No. This is a common misconception. In spite of the fact that all of the celebrations for the 21st century happened in the year 2000, the A.D. calendar started counting from the year 1, not the year 0. As a result, everything is thrown off-by-one so that new centuries begin on 1501, 1601, 1701, 1801, 1901, 2001, etc.

You can celebrate the new century during year 2000 all you want, but it still won't be true unless you go back in time and change the starting year to year zero. 🙂

Speaking of, I have pictures here of the thing in the stone in 7x20. I'm hoping that these will clarify things a little, but I'm just not sure. To me, it doesn't look like a scythe, it looks like an ornate axe with odd coloring (this pictures might be a little large, so I'm just including links to them rather than putting the pictures directly into the message):

Thanks for the info. I have one of her CDs and really like it. This must be on her latest. I see several have asked about it.

I also thought the episode was great. I like the Spike line

..."and I'll make it look like a painful accident"

referring to being ticked off at Faith. I wish I had spent more time on the board with fellow Buffy lovers but I just recently got Internet at home and I don't like to do this sort of thing at work.

I also thought the direction ad camera work in the Buffy/Spike scene was first rate. I plan to have the entire collection on DVD eventually. So far I have I and II, and plan to get III very soon.
