On a Scale of 1-10 How Much do You Hate Parker?

i hve very little to add, I pretty much agree with most who have already posted. One shouldn't make assumptions about one night stand, however it's obvious that Parker was deliberately misleading Buffy. If he was just after sex without the pretences he wouldn't have gone through all that drama-rama about 'seizing the day' and all that. Nothing wrong with one night stands and I agree that stating the terms and conditions before can ruin the moment but Parker is deliberately taking adavantage of naive girls. I don't agree with that but more fool Buffy for being that naive.

Urgh i HATE Parker!! He's such a jerk! I mean i know there are guys out there who do that to alot of people but it's awful. He made Buffy believe that their relationship was going to develop into something much more serious than a one night stand. Then to top it all off he tries to do the same to Willow!! Although she knows exactly what he's like. He was going to try it with Buffys best friend after destroying Buffy the way he did. So i hate Parker...10/10.

If Buffy and Parker had become serious, Buffy would have done worse - namely use Parker as rebound against her breakup with Angel. Which is probably what she was doing anyway.

The difference is though, is that Parker was consciously using Buffy, the guy had a plan. Buffy never meant to use Parker or Riley. She was more afraid to let anyone have her heart after Angel, but I don't think she was doing it deliberately.

She just wanted to feel loved again though. I've never thought of Buffy as being naive. She was just still getting over Angel and that made her easier to take advantage of in my opinion. I've been in that situation. Angel left her and told her he didn't want to be with her anymore and I think it's safe to say that she loved him with all her heart. She was never the same in relationships after that. When someone who you love so much just walks away it crushes you and you'd latch onto anybody who shows you attention.

I agree. I think Buffy was vulnerable, not malicious; Parker, on the other hand, seemed to derive a thrill from leading girls on.

She was still doing it. In the end, Buffy was being just as duplicitous as Parker, regardless of whether she was conscious of her actions or not.

I don't quite agree. I was thinking maybe it was self deception but in the end, Buffy was willing to make it work with Riley. I really don't see how Buffy was duplicitous really, at all. If she didn't care, she wouldn't have been hurt by Riley's betrayal, it wouldn't have mattered. In my eyes she did care and after she saw how she was pushing him away, she wanted to make it work. I definitely wouldn't put Parker who gave women 'The Line' in order to sleep with them, is the same thing as unconsciously keeping someone at arms length because you've been hurt, realising what you've done and trying to make things work in earnest.
I can't remember the episode but Buffy admits she wasn't there for Riley like she could have been, she actually wonders about her ability to love. This doesn't sound like someone being duplicitous and in my eyes whether you're conscious of what you're doing is a huge determining factor.

10. I hated the cocky little shit. While i do feel Buffy should have seen right through his blatant act and had a bit of pride when she got the brush off, i still felt bad for her. Parker knew exactly what he was up to from the first minute by using her. I hated his stupid face.

Those CREEPY eyebrows should've been the 1st red flag for Buffy. Loved when Riley punched his lights out for comparing her to a toilet seat.
Dude still trashed her, after she saved his USELESS life.
He deserved more than the glass jaw treatment from Riley.
Buffy should've called Angel, bought him to campus. Pointed Parker out and said...
"He hurt me, make him suffer."

0. I don't hate Parker, I don't care about Parker at all. As for what he represents, I detest it.
No male bashing intended here, but as a very jaded young woman, Parker is the type of guy I compare most men too. I expect the same treatment that Parker dished out and even though this way of thinking was established long before I watched this episode I still do not like him. So, I'd say a 10 🙂

I see most men/guys like Parker too and I'm a guy. Some of us do get better when we get older though. And no, I wasn't a Parker-type myself.

I wouldn't say hate, but rather confess that I am disappointed in his behavior. However, I was once in my early 20's and was--on a few rare occasions--probably little better, I must admit. As a male viewer I am somewhat miffed by the constant portrayal of male characters as incompetent/bungling (Xander, Wesley), evil (Angelus, Spike, Doc; Adam??), lecherous (Parker, Wesley in "Graduation Day"), shifty (Willy), negligent/absent (Buffy's Dad), socially inept (the Trio), etc. However, Giles, Xander (occasionally), and (good) Angel balance the scales just enough at times. I think I've expended my parentheses quota for the week.
