Do you believe in the theory that opposites attract? Do you have examples from your own life to support this theory or against it?

I think there is an initial attraction between opposites because there is alot of curiosity and mystery behind the other person but i think for a lasting relationship you need to have alot of things in common.
I have been with my boyfriend for a long time and i think it is definitely helped being able to share our hobbies and interests.

I think so. My boyfriend and I have more differences than similarities.
He has completely different political views to me, which has lead to arguments.
He has completely different film/music taste to me.
He's very musical and rhythmic, my old piano teacher once asked me if I was dyslexic, due to my lack of rhythm and ability.
He's shy and quiet, and doesn't like nightclubs, I'm pretty shy at first, but after that I can be annoyingly loud, and love going out.
He cares a lot about what people think of him, for example we spent the day together once and he bought a joint of ham and put it in my fridge. When it came to him taking it home (about a 2 minute walk away) despite it being wrapped in plastic, he wouldn't take it unless it was covered in a bag, because someone might see and think he's weird. I personally couldn't care less (Weird example, sorry).

YES YES YES!!!!

Nearly everyone I feel a close connection to is very different than me. I gravitate toward my polar opposite - kind of a yin/yang thing I think.

Sometimes. There are certainly people who are so different than me that it causes a really strong curiosity which often leads to attraction and admiration of those differences. However, sometimes after that initial curiosity those differences are so significant that there is no possiblity for attraction.

Sometimes, it depends. In some cases it can be a case of balancing each other out and finding out new things about the world through highlighting their differences.

But not really for me, I prefer people who are similar to me as I feel more comfortable with them than with people who are really opposite to me.

I don't know. I think you need a balance of differences and similarities really. I think I need similarities to start out with because you get to know each other and get excited over shared views and likes and dislikes but then it's also interesting to learn about the differences too. So I think you need a healthy dose of both!

Yes. Sometimes I have to resist the urge to punch my best friend (who I have known for about 13 years) in the face. Technically we're not "supposed" to get along according to astrology 😉 we used to get into fights when we were younger. Haha it's pretty hilarious...seeing as we're both total wimps. Those "fights" must have been fun for our friends to watch.

We agree about most things, in terms of politics and fashion taste, but when it comes to music...we know what we both like. I mean I'll know if she's going to hate a particular song and...yeah. We disagree a lot, but we probably agree on things more. We're not really opposites, but we're different. Kind of hard to explain, heh.

It's always great to have similar interests with someone. But the differences are the mostbexciting and interesting part of a relationship. That's where you open yourself up and learn more about life in general. I love introducing people to new things or being introduced myself to new things/experiences.

I don't think it's always true that opposites attract. My ex and I were very different, he was a bit of a show off and loved cars and technology. Whereas I'm a tomboy who loves going out, walking, camping etc. That relationship ended quite badly. But my boyfriend now is someone I've known for a long while, as a friend. Our friendship is the strong foundation to our relationship, and that's why it works so well. We're so similar we can finish each others' sentences, and be thinking the same thing at the same time. Our attraction to each other as friends helped us a lot.

It depends what the opposite was about. I want people around me that challenge my way of thinking and gives me new perspectives which most of my friends and my husband do, but they are also similar to me. I think I'm more drawn to the similar. For me, I could never be close or attracted to someone once I knew they didn't share my political views because it means so much to me and really is about empathy and solidarity with others to me. I could respect a person that didn't share my views, but we could never be close and I would be very turned off if I were interested in the first place.

I agree with the political view thing.
