I often wish I'd took a punt on the 2014 Oscars, as all my predictions for Film, Actor, Actress, Supporting Actor & Supporting Actress came true. Had I put money on all of them winning I'd have probably come out with quite a lot.... 🙄
 
Have an odd feeling that Stallone might win in supporting actor for some reason. Would love to see Ruffalo get it though.
 
The one thing that I think would be a sure thing is Vikander.. just don't know if I am sold enough to bet those odds.
 
The odds on DiCaprio are outrageous.

So would the people that wager ten grand to win a hundred bucks! I don't think he deserves it. It's a token victory. I'd go with Fassbender or Damon. As much as I liked the Revenant, only a small part was due to DiCaprio's acting.

It is a token victory, but I would say he does deserve it based on his quality of work thus far(which I know isn't the point, as you're awarding that particular performance, not his body of work) but he's been robbed in the past and people are starting to shout conspiracy....

Think of the outcry if he doesn't win.... I mean, we're talking riots, prison breaks, looting, potentially even wars between nations. 😱

It's DiCaprio's to lose basically. But I think it should be Fassbender.

So, if he's the modern-day Susan Lucci then he's the modern day Susan Lucci. I just don't think they should give him the award based on prior accomplishments. But they did the same thing with Scorsese.. that, coupled with lacking nominations, are why the Oscars don't really matter anymore.

I like him. I think he's a great actor.. but I don't think he deserves an Oscar for this movie.
 
Not seen either of Fassbender's or Damon's performances yet so can't comment, sure both are good. Its one of those withe Leo. I think its a good performance, not least because he has to convey so much while being very still, and he is a very consistent actor, but then I think you have to judge each performance on its own merits and not what has gone in the past.

The Scorsese one was a bit like Julianne Moore last year. He should have been rewarded for masterpieces over the years, but to make up for it they gave him one for a lesser film. Moore should have won like four oscars already.
 
I don't think Leo will win it, for some reason I think Fassbender. We will see.

Not like I care or watch the Oscars - millionaires patting each other on the back makes me retch. 🙂 But I do love guessing games and gambling.

Yeah, really think Fassbender was the only one who could have caused an upset, but he'll get his soon if he keeps playing the right kind of roles😉

The result I'm really pleased about is Spotlight getting best picture. Its the sort of crucial topic and throw back type film which needs the backing of the awards people. I hope this marks a shift from the academy.

Yes, but it was made more in the tredition of the serious, indie ensemble cast political films such as All the President's Men, the sort of film which has largely gone out of style. Besides I'm getting fed up this Oscar bait tag, fact is the subject matter should be explored in films, and if winning the oscar gives it more freedom then I'm all for that. I slam the awards as much as anyone, but when they actually get something right people shouldn't come out with the old cliches to belittle them.
 
I just don't feel like it was anything out of the ordinary for the academy to give an award to a film that slams religion and by extension the Right. Especially one with as many stars in it as that film. It's not like they courageously gave the award to an indie film that actually deserved it despite a low budget and unknown actors.

It's great that the story is told but the movie not out there and nominated for humanitarian reasons.

I get that, but sometimes its a means to an end. And I don't totally go along with this being oscar bait because actually the subject matter is pretty edgy and the sort of thing which big awards often shys away from. And admit it you thought The Revenant was going to win😀
 
Here, awards RUN to anything criticizing religion and the Cathoic Church in particular lol

I didn't think the Revenant would win, actually. Though I didn't actually care lol. I kind of assumed Spotlight or maybe Bridge of Spies.
 
I'm just glad I can rub it in everybody's faces for those that told me Mad Max wouldn't be nominated.
