Oscar odds

Here, awards RUN to anything criticizing religion and the Cathoic Church in particular lol

I didn't think the Revenant would win, actually. Though I didn't actually care lol. I kind of assumed Spotlight or maybe Bridge of Spies.

I believe you😉 Very few would have called Spotlight winning. I think Bridge of Spies was in the back of my mind as a strong contender. This is a win at least a bit out of leftfield, but they have to build on it now in coming years.

See, I just don't think it's out of left field at all. This is the one I would have picked purely on the subject matter. I don't know if it deserved it or not, but it was clear to me that this was probably going to be picked.

I'm just glad I can rub it in everybody's faces for those that told me Mad Max wouldn't be nominated.

Well in my defence I believe I said that if it did get noms it would be in the technology catagories. So do I escape your wrath?😉

You may have a point, but I do see the win as being more positive than negative. I think its one of those that could have been overlooked but picked up mementum along the way due the director having previous awards recognition, the cast, and the posters/publication etc... My guess is that its a lot more grounded and less preachy than the press around it suggests.

Did you already forget it got a nom for best pic? ;) The wins were in the technical category, but it still go other noms!

As soon as Spotlight took screenplay you knew it had picture. Rather predicable. As was director, actor and actress. Only one that surprised me was supporting actor.

Well I didn't watch the Oscars but I was suprised at that win at the BAFTA's which I did watch. But that led me to believe the film must be pretty good.

This is true, but then I wasn't following the oscars as they unfolded so had none of that to go on. Did Ruffalo get best supporting actor?

Yeah but I'm losing faith in the BAFTA's think they are becoming way too safe too. Thing is many of the film getting noms this year do look pretty good, its just the overall range doesn't give a true reflection of the good in film the last twelve months.

No the dude from Bridge of Spies got it.

🙂

As he will be known for years to come, that or "the dude who robbed Ruffalo"😛

Hardy, Bale, Ruffalo, Stallone. I could have seen either one winning it moreso than Rylance. But I did not want Ruffalo to win so I should at least be happy for that.

I can't judge based on performances lol, but I'm not really going to feel bad for Mark Ruffalo - I think he's doing okay lol

That and the fact that the Oscar might have been the kiss of death anyway😉

@Blaze yeah but it was always filling space that is the downside to having as many as ten nominations.

Why? Do you not like good acting?😉

Stallone was my pick just for the story of it. Actually didn't think Hardy was that good. The accent got annoying and think he's been better in other stuff.

Ruffalo's performance in Spotlight was the same performance as in Shutter Island, which was the same performance as in Zodiac. You always feel like you are watching the same person; unlike in Infinitely Polar Bear where he showed that he is still a versatile actor.

Further, Spotlight was a true ensemble piece and he should not have been placed above the other actors.

Totally disagree on the first point, he is a subtle character actor and that is because he is so grounded and naturalistic than it may come across than it is the same. Besides if you have not seen them watch films such as You Can Count on Me and In the Cut then we can have this discussion😉

Your second point is interesting because there has been debate to whether there should be an ensemble catagory at the oscars. And I think there is so merit to that. Would have loved to have seen The Dark Knight's cast get its due beyond Ledger🙂

When he is in a 'big' movie, he gives the same performance. You are free to disagree but I don't think there is anything to discuss.

At least they go the order right this time - Best Original Screenplay and Best Screenplay Adapted from Another Medium were first and they were all I was interested in.

Awww. Just when I was starting to enjoy Leo's losing faces.
What will we do without all the Leo Wants an Oscar memes?

Saying that, there have been some hilarious ones this morning of Leo finally getting his Oscar, so there's fuel in that for the time being....

Leo memes are some of the best memes.
I have no clue if it was deserved or not since I haven't seen any of the movies.... but as a Swede I can't help being a bit happy to see that Alicia Vikander won. 🙂
