Other ships (like Bangel)?

Okay, my favorite ships are:

Neo and Trinity (The Matrix)

tumblr_ou6o24y4pV1wx24nso1_500.gif

They are similar to Bangel in somes ways (they're my favorite ship after Bangel). Neo is the Chosen One, Trinity finds Neo and tries to help him in his mission, Trinity and Neo love each other deeply in a very pure way. I also think that Neo and Trinity's love is very subtle which really appeals to me - the lack of drama (unlike Bangel).

Carrie Hopewell and Hood (Banshee)

tumblr_n4i11ejvaI1tvwxm4o9_250.gif

Similarities to Bangel - never stopped loving each other despite not being together for 15 years, forbidden love because Carrie is married, can't be together because it's not good for them, would die for each other and are always there to offer support no matter what.

Logan Huntzberger and Rory Gilmore

tumblr_oh801pQ5W81ujiz9eo1_500.gif

Similarities to Bangel: blonde/brunette lol?, Logan becomes more focused and matures around Rory, they are still in love after years apart, Logan is the person Rory reaches out to when she needs comfort in the revival, forbidden love (kinda).

Eeew Logan. Sorry, but I had issues with all of Rory's boyfriends.
While I can’t think of any pairing that is exactly like B/A there are a few that captures some aspect of their relationship.

Karigan/Zachary from The Green Rider series. Karigan is a school girl who finds a dying messenger, decides to complete his mission and after many perils and adventures goes on to become a king’s messenger herself. Zachary is the king, and despite what Disney films will have you believe royalty can’t marry commoners without political fallout, so they are kept apart even though they’re both attracted to each other. They capture the angst and mutual pinning of Bangel.

Lois Lane/Clark Kent from Lois and Clark. Considering how famous these two are I don’t think any explanation is needed. They capture the strong woman/supportive man aspect and the passion and chemistry of Bangel.

Here are a few gifs to illustrate why the 90s show is my favorite version of Lois and Superman:

Nikita/Michael from Nikita (2010-2013). Nikita is a rogue agent from a secret black ops unit called Division. She was saved from death row, put through grueling training and forced to become an assassin. When the series starts she has escaped and is now on a mission to take down the people who she used to work for. Including Michael, her former trainer. Michael is aware that the people he works for are corrupt, but stays because they are his only chance to get revenge for the family he lost.

They remind me of late season three Bangel, working beautifully together to fight the forces of evil, two soldiers taking solace in each other.

Elizabeth/Henry McCord from Madam Secretary is what I picture happily married Buffy/Angel would be like. Two professionals working hard to make the world a better place while still being passionate about each other.

Since the thread was replied to this past year, I guess it's ok to respond. There's a recent ship I got on board with last year. I am gonna go a bit more nerd, and bring in my Ship from Marvel

Sabretooth (Victor Creed) & Monet St. Croix
1178039_900.png

1202271_900.png

1171874_900.png

It didn't get to get far though, because the comic got cancelled before they could really get off the ground. But majority hate this ship because Sabretooth was just as evil as Angelus in the past -serial killing, possible rapist & cannibal, etc. So many don't think he ever deserves redemption, and many especially feel he does not deserve Monet. Next is the age difference. Monet is 19 - 21, and Sabretooth is 150.

I call them my Bangel of Marvel. On the surface, they fit. But it's tricky,

I put a post on tumblr with pix at one point to run down the similarities of Creed & Angel. It's very short.
When it comes to Sabretooth, it depends on who's writing him. He can be Angel where he's repentant and more friendly. Or he can turn into Spike where he's repentant and still a jerk. lol And Monet can be considered Buffy or Cordy. On the surface, she acts just like Cordy -princess, snarky, superiority complex, better than everyone. Sabretooth comments to her at one point that she is more impressed by herself than anyone else is. Then later outright calls her a snob. But Monet confesses during a therapy session that she acts like a superior bitch because that persona gives her strength, because she has to make the choice daily not to kill herself given the abuse she suffered from her brother, and her own deeper insecurities. Her powers & abilities make her known as perfect. But she herself is not, and tries to keep up appearances that she is.

She & Sabretooth have a very playful dynamic, and trade barbs with one another. Monet is in flux. She is attracted to him, but sometimes pushes him away. Sabretooth is very protective of her to a fault -always asking if she's all right, and throwing himself between her & any threat. But Monet sneers at him for it, telling him she doesn't need him to watch over her. Finally, during a dark point, she's cursed by her brother and becomes a vampire. She doesn't wanna tell anyone what's happened, and Sabretooth is the only one who knows. He he offers to keep her secret, and lets her feed on him periodically.
1169126_900.png

At this point, he starts moving into Spike territory -where he enables her and unintentionally makes her situation worse. His feeding her, and going along with her not telling anyone just allows her brother to get greater control over her. And he takes part is some bad things to cover for her. He does try to stop her at one point, but after a short fight, he gives in and lets her do as she pleases.

My favorite non-Buffyverse ships are: Tim/Lyla (Friday Night Lights), Ryan/Marissa (The OC), Logan/Veronica (Veronica Mars), Lucas/Peyton (One Tree Hill), Jane/Michael (Jane the Virgin), Mulder/Scully (The X-Files)

Not sure which ones relate the most to Bangel. I know a lot of people who ship Bangel also ship Logan/Veronica.

Very few are endgame, sadly. I can see that like Ryan/Marissa, they're soulmates with an intense love for each other but they can just never make it work together. Jane/Michael were also set up as soulmates but ended in a tragic death.

So, yeah, I clearly love the epic, tragic ships, most of which are not endgame 🙁

I feel your pain. Sucks loving all the relationships that writers and/or fans don't want as endgame. U_U

OMG I just adore Tim/Lyla
My big, BIG ships aside from Bangel and Bufferverse ships are:
  • Sawyer/Juliet (LOST), beautiful, balanced, a true partnership, torn apart by one half dying (forever bitter about that)
  • Laurel/Oliver (Arrow), such a beautiful, broken ship with so much history and potential, just forgotten about by the writers and then Laurel was killed off (more bitterness)
  • Emma/August (OUAT), a ship with a deep connection, the two lost children who traveled to our world together, never even given a chance by the show (bitterness increasing)
  • Emma/Neal (OUAT), another beautifully broken ship which should have been endgame but was decimated to make way for a sexist pirate in guyliner (bitterness reaching critical levels)
  • Rachel/Tobias (Animorphs), you never know true pain until one half of your OTP is a bird, these two are unhealthy and co-dependent and need each other to keep them in touch with their humanity and then Rachel dies at the climax of the war and Tobias abandons humanity because he can't live without her (bitterness overflowing)
  • Anne/Gil (Anne of Green Gables), my first, original OTP long before I even knew what shipping was, these two at least have a happy ending and achieve their dreams (bitterness decreasing)
  • Bellamy/Clarke (The 100), a ship which needs to become canon now, these two have such a beautiful dynamic and it looks like the show is finally building towards an official relationship (bitterness decreasing more)
So, I guess I have a thing for really tragic ships which don't get happy endings, much like Bangel, so yeah, definitely seem to have a type.

Anne/Gil -- now there's a ship you could sail around the world with! Siiiigh, I love them!

I relate so much to that. I seem to always love ship which are underdog. I prefer Bangel but Spuffy is most popular. On OTH I was a Brucas fan but Leyton won. On Grey's Anatomy, I'm Alex/Izzie's shipper and you know the end of the story. I loved Oliver and Laurel but no the writers decided he should go with Felicity, I don't like at all this relationship but who care of me, that seems to please the majority of the fandom.

OMG, I know right? They are so beautiful and amazing (and hilarious) and I have loved and shipped them since I was about four, ever since she broke that damn slate over his head. Do you ship them from the books, the Megan Follows Miniseries or Anne With An E?

I first started with the Megan Follows miniseries, then I read all the books. I love them all. I remember the ending of Anne of the Island especially made teenage me intensely happy.

Yeah I was so confused on this. I thought that Oliver and Laurel had great chemistry. I know on tumblr Olicity has a great big following but its unfortunate that they didn't give Laurel and Oliver a shot. I even liked Oliver and Sarah better than Oliver and Felicity. My husband is also very bitter because he reads the comics (and I think he watches some cartoons on DC universe too but I'm not sure if they are movies or shows or what they are) and I guess in the comics he is with black canary? So he thinks they screwed it up.

RachM

Yeah, Green Arrow and Black Canary are a pretty big ship in the comics, so I can understand your husband's disappointment with the show.
I honestly don't know what Olicity's fans see of wonderful in that relationship. I mean I maybe not ship Spuffy, Leyton, but I can see why the others ship them but Olicity ??? I don't see the chemistry between the actors, I don't see an epic love, I don't like the romantism between them and I think that all the stories about them ruined the show. In fact I stop watching the series because I was too much annoyed by them. I don't see the potential of this relationship. I see nothing good

@RachM You know, at the beginning of season 4, when the producers tease the fan about "THAT person in the grave" , I was kinda hoped that it would be Felicity, I liked the character but her relationship with Oliver was really annoying to me. I stopped watching after episode 8 and was planning to continue if felicity died. When I knew Laurel was "THAT person in the grave, well I didn't continue the show !

Agreed, I stopped watching the show for much the same reason (that and I didn't want to see Laurel killed off).
In fact I stop watching the series because I was too much annoyed by them.

I kind of did too. I mean I wasn't angry at the ship or anything but I was hanging on by a thread on that show anyway. I liked Flash better. When Sara Lance left and Oliver and Felicity became a thing I was like eh... I'm losing interest. I started walking away from my TV when it was on and slowly started skipping episodes etc. Then I checked back in and there was a whole new team of people and they were kind weird and they had killed Laurel so I was like - yeah I'm over this.

But I tuned in for the major cross over event for the 4 shows and I was FLOORED by the double wedding crap. I mean first of all HOW FREAKING RUDE of Felicity to be like "hey can I get married at your wedding too?" and then just the horrible writing of that whole scene (I found it hard to watch) and honestly most of the crossover. The only one of those shows I still watch and enjoy is Flash and even then I'm not catching all of those episodes.

I'm happy that Iris and Barry are a thing and that people in general like them It gives me faith that the youth of today is not all about horribly toxic relationships but that a happy healthy relationships can also be popular.

Yeah all the wedding crap was so bad..... I watched it and was doing something else at the same time... Litterally no emotions (the Olicity's part of course)

100 % agreed ! You are so right. I used to watch Flash but I stopped at the same time I stopped Arrow. Now on the Dc series I only watch Supergirl and until now I think this is far batter than Arrow and Flash..

OMG, I know, right?! But that's pretty standard behaviour for Felicity (never been a fan of hers). But honestly, what a crap thing to do!

@Antho - I only started watching Arrow last year, so I knew that Laurel was the one who died. I just didn't expect to fall in love with her as much as I did, and so I just couldn't handle continuing to watch the series knowing my favourite character was not only going to die but that her last words would be to tell Oliver that he was the love of her life but she wasn't the love of his (which is bullshit) and that he should be with Felicity, I mean, WTF? They literally used her death to pimp the Olicity ship, I mean, yuck.

It was lame, really ! She deserved better. But the bad writing is common in Arrow

@BuffyBot22 That makes me SO happy that you love Tim/Lyla! They're probably my number one ship of all time and I don't encounter a lot of other hard-core shippers

Well here is one!! I was so bummed with how all of that turned out.
But, I'm even more bummed that there are very few youtube videos of them.
They were so great. I shipped them from their very first kiss (no matter how wrong it was)

Same here! They had some of the best on-screen chemistry I've ever seen.
So few Youtube videos and not very many good fics (that I've found).

Chemistry was off the charts!!
i think the only similarity is that angela is blonde(also her name) and that there's no happy ending, and elliot is brooding and suffers from social anxiety (and does a lot of drugs...) but i think there's no future for them. he loves her, she loves pain. it's so utterly heartbreaking and real.

and them. well. it was a beautiful story

another similarity elliot and angela have with bangel is that elliot has an "evil" alter ego...

werewolf hunter and werewolf(u see where i'm going with it)
never got over her death. and well the whole show just wasn't the same after it. gave up after sometime.

I preferred teen wolf after Alison died. I didn't see the chemistry/epic love story which they were so obviously going for between them. Kira was so much more fun.
Hyde & Jackie - That 70's Show
Lois & Clark - The New Adventures Of Superman
Susan & Mike - Desperate Housewives
Brenda & Dylan - Beverly Hills 90210
Chandler & Monica - Friends
