Overrated vs Underrated (by KD)

I'm gonna get hate mail for this, but it is true where I am to some extent...

Overrated: Soccer (football) especially the World Cup. Today in the paper, 72% of Canadians couldn't give a flying you-know-what about it...especially since the Stanley Cup finals are on...hockey rules!

Then again, most of the rest of the world cares not a jot for your quaint North American pastime of hockey played on ice...the viewing figures won't lie 😉 😛

Yeah, well hockey is played by REAL men, not girly-men...nyah, nyah, nyah!;)
Now now boys.... lol. 😛 Lets keep this topic friendly please. LMAO.

But I have to agree... soccer is soooo overrated... lol. Then again, I think that about all sports... so what do I know?

Lemme at him, lemme at him....it's a good thing you're here to hold me back, elmo...;)
I'll concede that Football in general, as well as most sports, are a little overrated(doesnt mean i dislike, just that sometimes i want to go a day without some Sporting Fiasco brandished all over the place) but events like the World Cup, no, they are perfect.
I have noticed that certain countries who never really do well in them tend to look down on it because if they have no chance of winning then whats the point eh, but i truly believe events like this and the Olympics do serve a purpose, they do bring alot of people together. Yes there are some unsavoury characters brought in too, but honestly thats not the games fault, if someone wants to cause a ruckus they will do so using anything as an excuse.

So, while i find Football(and their extremely well paid players) Overrated, i do think the big events are cool.

Also, lets not forget, was it not for Football, we wouldnt have had Footballers Wives, i mean who isn't glad of Tanya Turner!!!!!

Here's your karma, and the reason is in my post below...very nice!

Wow, that was so subtle, I'm gonna give karma for it!

As for why I think it is overrated (and just to be clear, back in the day, that is, High School, I was a speedy striker on the runner-up for the city championship, so I do like the sport) it's just all the drama and theatrics when a foul happens...you'd think the pansies were poleaxed or something the way they roll around in fake agony. Ryan Smyth of the Edmonton Oilers got 3 teeth knocked out by a stick, and took 20 stitches in the mouth during a game in the first round of the playoffs...he missed a grand total of one shift on the ice...now that's a game played by real men...😉

OK, OK - have to agree on the overpaid football divas who fall over if someone breathes on them and ice hockey players are much harder (but much uglier :))
Oh Gosh, KD, i hope you don't think that 'eh' was a subconcious slur 'pon the great Canadian Nation🙂.

My comment was actually in general, for it seems that most people don't care for a sport unless they're winning.
I've spoken with alot of Americans and most of the couldn't give a rats ass about the World Cup, and thats because they arent leaders in the game. Other nations are the same, take England.
Before last Summer, you were to ask the regular Joe on the street about his opinion of Cricket, he'd have said...'pants', then we won the Ashes and the whole nation was hooked. Did they like the sport any more, not at all, they just loved that 'we' won. Before that Summer, the Idea of having a Cricket Player, who ONLY plays that and doesnt do anything else, on something like Johnathan Ross, was laughable, then these guys became super stars known by all.
Now we are getting back to where we were, the Brit Pub isnt caring much for that game anymore.

I grant you that some sports in some countries are outside this generalization, for example Football, but on the whole most sports do only receive popularity when they win.

No worries...we Canuckleheads probably take ourselves less seriously than anyone else in the world...bring on the "slurs"! We just laugh at 'em, as long as they are not intended with malice...and even if they are, the best defense is laughing! Why do you think we produce so many good comedians and comedy writers? It's hard not to poke fun at everyone else when you do it to yourself too!

And Mr. P...yeah, those hockey players are butt-ugly in a lot of cases...my theory is that the ugliest team wins the Stanley Cup!
