Oz or Tara

I like Oz, and I did ship them until Tara showed up, but once she did it was game over for the guy. I do think Tara was the one for Willow, her forever after. Not only do I love the character, but she's has a pretty significant important in my life. I can safely say that I wouldn't be where I am today without having seen that storyline when I was young.

Yeah - they were such a positive force in such a negative world
I'm going with Oz. For some reason Tara just doesn't do it for me. I enjoy Oz more as a character. If I had to pick who I want Willow to be with, it would be Oz. They were so cute together. I'm not an Amber Benson hater, but I'm also not a fan. On the other hand I love Seth Green. So I'm a little bias, but I just don't feel Tara as a character. It's not until s6 when she breaks up with Willow that I start to like her...and then she dies. Also Oz has the werewolf thing going on which I'm still sad that it was not used better in the show, or on Angel s5.

I prefer Oz for two reasons- he funnier in general (and I like his sense of humour a lot.) and I like Willow more with him than with Tara- where in general I dislike her development (not that this is Tara's fault).

I always liked Tara better when she interacted with Buffy, Xander or Dawn than with Willow. She just seemed more real to me then.
On the other hand I love a lot of the Willow/Oz couple stuff from Seasons 3 and 4 in particular. 'Amends', 'Choices' GD parts 1/2' and 'Wild At Heart'.

Why not both?

No, but seriously, I like both of those pairings, I mean, sure, I strongly disagree with Tara's views on magic but then I also can't stand the vagina-turns-me-into-a-monster tripe in "New Moon Rising". You know what, I wish Buffy's relationships were as cool as Willow's.

I think I am going to get into so much trouble for saying this.. I agree. That's not the trouble part.. this is the trouble part:

I feel that Willow talked down/devalued Tara. She treated her more as a puppy than a girlfriend. She would get upset/irritated anytime Tara had a different opinion and Tara would sometimes/often back-peddle so that her stance matched Willows to avoid arguments.

I used to 'see' them as a couple and get it. But, after time has past and I rewatched it some years ago, I saw that the relationship was unequal, in my eyes, and that Tara shown brightest when she was around other people.

Oz. I like both Oz and Tara as characters, so I have to base my decision on how each affected Willow and her story.

Willow's progression in the first 3.5 seasons was great. She grew into a strong, confident young woman, and I tend to think Oz's love and support had something to do with that. In the second half of the series, she grew dangerously power-hungry and manipulative, particularly of those she loved. I am by no means saying Tara was some sort of enabler, but Willow kind of went buck wild with the magic stuff while they were together.

And while Tara was really sweet and all, I just found Oz more enjoyable to watch. He always seemed really grounded, and for lack of a better word, normal as compared to the perpetually zany Scoobies. I sort of enjoyed his whole taciturn persona, which made it all the more memorable when he did speak (e.g., his reaction in "Surprise," when he sees a vampire dusted for the first time--classic).

Tara, definitely. Their connection seemed more genuine if you ask me, Like if Oz was shot by Warren, I don't think Willow would have went all crazy black magic on Warren and his minions the way she did for Tara. Maybe she would have but not too the same extent she went for Tara. 😛

From "What's My Line Part 2 2x10" where the Order of Taraka policewoman starts firing at Buffy:

ON OZ AND WILLOW
Bullets FLY past them.
OZ
Look out!
OZ THROWS HIMSELF OVER WILLOW - TAKING HER TO THE GROUND. A BULLET GRAZES HIS ARM.
They land hard. Oz on top of her, bleeding

followed by:

Kendra goes after Police Lady while Buffy runs to OZ and WILLOW.
WILLOW
(to Buffy)
He's, he's shot-
(to OZ)
Are you okay?
OZ
I'm shot. Wow. It's very . . . odd.
And painful.

I don't see Tara ever making a decision fast enough to do this or anything detrimental to her own interests until she refuses to give up Dawn's identity to Glory. I never got the Tillow relationship. (The Tara / Dawn relationship seemed a lot better.) Tillow just seemed like a plot contrivance so that a romance between Willow and someone did not overshadow anything going on in Buffy's life.

I will always prefer Tara/Willow. Willow/Oz had a nice relationship, but I always felt that what Willow had with Tara was the real deal. Tara is also one of my favourite characters because I love her purity, and how she never judges other people. She also had a great relationship with Buffy and Dawn.

I've never really liked Oz. I've never found his "humour" very funny. He never really contributed much to the group besides being Willow's boyfriend, and adding his one-liners to discussions. I mean sure, he went on patrol sometimes, but other than that, he didn't really have a relationship with anyone else. Although Willow/Oz had some cute moments, it never really felt like it was meant to be.

Willow and Tara however had a connection since their first episode, which was clearly portrayed through their magic. And like someone else had mentioned, if it were the other way around and Oz was the one who was shot, I just can't see Willow turning to the dark side the way she did with Tara. Tara was her world.

I prefer Tara/Willow. I like Oz too but I think Willow's relationship with Tara was a lot deeper and they meant the world to each other. Willow and Oz did love each other but when you think about it they both cheated too, I just don't think they were really right for each other in the end. I did like his character though, I always loved the scene where he sees Willow in her Eskimo outfit. But for me, Tara and Willow were better for each other. I can never imagine Willow cheating on Tara or vice versa. Plus when Oz comes back to Willow in season 4 she chooses Tara over him.

Tara and willow worked better. They are very similar, awkward, shy, they dont fit in many groups but they fit perfectly with each other.

Tara is the love of Willow's life. Had she not died, they'd still be together in the comics now. I'm still a big fan of Willow with OZ, though.

Honestly I love both, I've never really felt the need to choose. However, just comparing the individual characters, I prefer Oz slightly over Tara, but I still love her.
