Oz: Underappreciated?

Oz looking for and finding Buffy the rat was great. Her reaction when she realized she had no clothes on was amusing. "Hi Oz":biggrin3:

What did he write in the yearbook out of interest?

I can't remember all of it but next to his photograph he said at the end 'much remains unsaid' and then under a picture of them together from the prom he said something like 'for all that remains unsaid I wrote a song - it's an instrumental'.

I don't know, I've always been one for reading between the lines and stuff, even in real life I'm always analysing people, but it's something I've always liked and wished for in the show.

I agree I think that says a lot thanks for bringing that up I had forgotten about that. ;)

Oh, I like that. Also, I like your current status.
I so wish we would've had more Oz & Buffy scenes! Sarah and Seth are best friends in real life which would've made it all the more awesome!

Yeah. Kean suggested that maybe my theory lies in the fact they were such good friends that it couldn't help but show through on screen!

I don't believe he is under-appreciated at all. I see Oz love all the time. I'd say if anything, he's a little over-appreciated TBH. I liked Oz, thought he was an cool character but I never missed him after he left. I might have liked him more if after he broke up with Willow and returned in 'New Moon Rising', he had stayed and developed his own character apart from Willow. I'm a Twillow fan now and forever but I would have liked to seen more Oz if he stayed as a member of the Scoobies and not Willow's boyfriend. Hell, even better would have been if had he joined ANGEL. Angel, Cordelia, Wesley and Oz would have been awesome in the first season IMO.

I agree with his character being overappreciated. I don't know how it was said that he is underappreciated. Almost everyone speaks fondly of Oz and his character.

I guess it depends on how you took the OP. While it was asking for Oz love, which there is plenty of, I thought about it more in terms of the show itself and whether he was under appreciated or under used by the writers and such.

And yes, Seth on Angel would have been awesome. His mellow outlook on life would have done wonders!

Oz is one of my favorite characters and I like Woz more than Tillow (Can't really explain why, don't get me wrong I like Tillow I just like Woz more). But in Season Eight he's too OOC for me, you have Jane Espenson to blame for that.

Aww, why do you think that? I really loved him in S8 and thought he was adorable
with his wife and child, aww!

But I think this thread is fun because I just started to watch season 3 again the other day.
And after watching the first 6 episodes or so I was actually thinking about how brilliant the character of Oz is.

Oz has always been a favorite of mine though, but seeing these episode somehow reminded me about it again.

That's why I'm feelin' the Oz love right now...I'm getting ready to finish S3. I always liked him, but it's really standing out now.

I can't remember all of it but next to his photograph he said at the end 'much remains unsaid' and then under a picture of them together from the prom he said something like 'for all that remains unsaid I wrote a song - it's an instrumental'.

OMG, that's hilarious, sounds just like him!

ITA! And another love interest for him would've been interested.

Yes, that's what I was going for. 🙂

I feel like Oz's presence divides the Buffy seasons. It changes subtly after he leaves. He was absolutely hilarious though, and I think that comes from Seth Green being awesome. That man is a comedic GENIUS.

You could say that. He does leave pretty much in the exact middle of the series.

I do think he was't appreciated/developed as much as he should or could have been. I have this theory that Buffy and Oz were always much closer than was shown on screen and it's my AU favourite friendship. I think there was so much between, purely platonic, and that should have been more prominent.

I completely I agree, I was thrilled the little bit we got when he went out patrolling with her in season 4... I thought they had such a cute friendship and I would have liked seeing that played out a bit more.

Agreed IMO he was on some of the best seasons so it was a win for him and a win for us that we got him 😉 I just love Seth Green.

Oz is amazing. He's funny, honorable and in general just a very likable guy. Seth Green is one of the most talented actors on BtVS so he's able to hold our attention despite the writers having problems keeping relevant to the story

I loved Oz, he is one of my favorite characters. I wish he would have made some appearances in Angel...I loved Oz/Angel interactions. It would have been nice to have seen him come help Nina out when she became a werwolf.

I honestly never had a deep appreciation or liking for Oz, but the consensus reigns that Oz was a great character - I don't think he was under appreciated, but over.

Anyway, I thought when he appeared on Angel, it suited him better. It would've been completely interesting to see the dynamic on that show had he been there.

I think Oz did sort of get swept under the carpet after Tara - a lot of people forget about what Woz was like and the importance of Woz in the development of Willow.

On a personal note, I think Oz is a really interesting character that we didn't really get to see at its full potential.

🙂

A friend: Have you noticed how all the men on Buffy are annoying idiots?
Me: Oz?
Friend: Hmm Ok.

Agreed, right when he left it felt like it was after the first few times we had started to get glimpses of him being something other than just 'Willow's boyfriend'. Had Seth stayed for another season I'm sure we would have seen a great deal of depth added to his character.

I like Oz, I think he's a very cool guy; however, due to his monotonous nature, I don't think that he's the easiest character to relate with.
