yellowcrayon agrees: Some Catholics do fish on Fri all year round. Eastern Orthodox do no meat (at least) on Wed and Fri, and no meat and dairy during Lent.
By 'we' I meant my family. There are friends of my mom's who abstain on Fridays all year, too, but we've never done that. I didn't even do it at all till I was 12 or 13, something like that. Some of the Church's guidelines have relaxed in recent years, my mom grew up in a parish where Mass was given in Latin. Even my own parish, while still pretty traditional, has become a little more contemporary with the times.....more singing than there used to be. They sing the responses now, they used to just speak them when I was growing up.
